I don't mind high heels, I just don't want ridiculously revealing costumes.

DOA does enough of that for the entire gaming industry. Mortal Kombat does not need to tag along.

MK x DOA anyone? ????
Double the ninjas. Double the fun

Get over here.

No but seriously, I don't think I'd like a mkvsdoa

At least you can do brutal Fatalities on them(DOA is linked to the Ninja Gaiden series which is gory and MK and DOA are rated M) ????
Better than DC.

I agree. Tekken x DOA hell yes

Ashra was fully clothed and she looked great.. Sonya is clothed.. Sheeva wears next to nothing but then again so do the Shokan men...

Edenians just like to wear what they are born with.. Don't look at it like its degrading to women.. Look at it like they are strong, proud, beautiful women who aren't afraid to show off what they have wink

These are a number of designs, I wish NRS would take inspiration from.

I really like the outfit above (Jill Valentine?) as inspiration for Sonya!

But I must say, if they add good athlete figures to the same outfits, instead of pornstars, it already looks more realistic.

Look at this picture of Kitana, based on her MK9 outfit, but with realistic shapes:

The female soldier from FEAR 2 (don't remember her name) is how I always pictured Sonya.

Hell make her hair a yellow blonde and increase her bust and bang! Instant Sonya. It's a completely silly fantasy military costume but I tell you one thing it perfectly bridges fantasy elements with portraying who and what Sonya is representing. It makes sense.

Jill Valentine's gear makes sense too.

I wouldn't even increase the bust size. I hate how everyone in MK9 has the same cup size. But yeah, make that character blond and it'd be a great Sonya design.

Anyways, what are your thoughts about decent/trashy outfits?

I could care less if they were "trashy" or "whorish". This SJW bullshit is really getting on my nerves lately as they try to ruin every game. You're not making any "progression". You're just making everything worse. That's what I actually like about Boon and co. They don't really give a shit in the first place. If they want their women to be going around with tape around their bodies and NOTHING else then they go ahead and do it.

That's just how I feel. The Mileena costume didn't bother me. Sonya not wearing a bra didn't bother me. Wearing high heels didn't bother me. I don't fucking care. As long as I like the outfit or lack there of.

Absolutely agree. Those outfit discussions got on my last nerves. And what bothered me the most was the hypocrisy. We've had shirtless male characters and even a boss villain without pants. But not once have I heard any complaints or accusations of the men being objectified.

Rainbow, that argument is stupid every single time it is used. A shirtless man is not the same thing as a shirtless female because the societal ideals about men and women are not the same. A fit male who is shirtless is seen as powerful, strong, etc -- an overwhelmingly positive image. A female who is scantily clad is viewed as "slutty", "trashy", etc -- an overwelmingly negative image. Pretending like they're the same thing is not only ignorant, but intellectually dishonest.
In a perfect world would these double standards simply not exist? Sure, but that isn't the reality we exist in. Also, let's just be honest. Objectification IS the purpose of those costumes, it's the only purpose and anyone who argues that is simply being dishonest. I'm not saying the developers are bad people, I'm saying they're trying to take advantage of the old and incorrect cliche: "sex sells." Ironically, new research suggests that products that use provocative imagery of females (or men) don't actually do any better or worse.

By the looks of the two main ninja/assassins, they're headed in a more practical costume art direction. I can only anticipate that where it makes sense, they will apply the same logic.

I agree with that Predator! These designs are by far my favorite for Scorpion and Sub Zero, so I'm actually quite hopeful.

That's excellent and it's basically the same outfit.

Again, how revealing the outfits were wasn't the issue, it was that the designs themselves were largely uninspired and generally not good. Let them bare skin but let them do it in cool outfits with clear themes and execution. A them other than bewbs tho.

How about telling that to D'Angelo, who almost ended his music career because fans cared more about his body and would even throw money at him on stage while telling him to take it off. You're telling me those people viewed him as powerful, strong, and positive instead of a piece of meat? Okay then. That's your opinion and I'll choose to be the bigger and better person by not resorting to immature name calling like you did to me.

I will just be glad if they bring Jade back to life and for once don't make the token black female 10,000x shades lighter.

Like seriously have you seen Lisa in Doa5U It's insane how much lighter they have made her.

PS: God it's been like 2 years since i last came to this site maybe i'll stick around to see whats revealed about MKX.

Hasn't Lisa always been lighter? Vanessa from VF however is another story. They made her four or five shades lighter.

What name calling, rabbit? I didn't call you any names. I said your argument was stupid and it was. What I'm telling you is that they saw him as sexy because they saw him as powerful and strong, whereas men see women sexy for different reasons that are usually (and wrongly) considered negative.
I didn't say that men weren't seen as sexy, or that there were NO instances of them being objectified. However, men do not have a history of being marginalized, being treated unfairly and constantly paraded around for no other purpose than display. Men's body parts are not seen as SOLEY sexual. Also, D'Angelo did not face any negative stigma for his shirtless antics because of reasons mentioned in my previous post.
Of course no one should face any stigma based on how much clothing they choose to wear or not wear, but that isn't the point. These aren't actual people making a choice about what to wear; they're female characters designed by a team of mostly males for the purpose of selling the game to other males, reinforncing a negative view of women.

Nope. Lisa was dark as hell in DoA4.

Looking at Lisa from DOA4 to 5 it seems they've done a Jade. She's basically the same complexion in gameplay but in renders she's much MUCH lighter.

Really cause it isn't like she is a tiny bit lighter if she is out in the sun. It is like she did skin bleaching. And i also agree with the vanessa one she is an even better example of black females in fighting games getting lighter through the games.

Also, a Jill Valentine-inspired Sonya = yes.

I don't know that making Sub's vest look like Marty McFly's "life preserver" bubble-jacket is necessarily practical. I never did get why Proce seems to like putting that segmented look in his Sub designs so much...not to mention I can't imagine what LED lights in his mask would be needed for...

But I will agree that Scorpion looks way more "realistic" without the H.R.Giger gimpsuit and cartoon-scorpion shoulderpads.

Yup, that was my problem too. Along with the male's arms and legs. Everyone had nearly the same structure. Not a huge deal, but if they hand crafted all of the characters it would look more ascetically pleasing. The females all being the same exact height, with the same cup size, and as tall as all of the males gets distracting.

Despite what i was saying about Doa5 before they do make the females different body wise. Males however have the same problem of just being all muscle like exact same torso

My problem with DoA near the end was all of the females had the same exact face. Like dolls. I really can't stand those games anymore, the fighting is fluid but the models of the characters are lazy. I want sexy, handcrafted, and unique models. They should take less time with adding dumb little details on characters like in MK9. Baraka's secondary could have been dumbed down some, Scorpion's detail all over could have been simplified, all that time they take to add that crap they could take to make everyone more unique.
