I would like to say that I don't agree with revealing clothing making someone or a character "slutty". I don't even like using that word in any context. Again, I don't mind them making characters sexy; I just think they can do that while making them realistic as well. Basically, all I'm asking for is Sonya's ALT from M9 without the weird cutoff point on the tank top that made no sense.

Nah. I don't think a dress would really suit her. All the kicking and flying through the air she does? Could you imagine? Maybe if it was something like Sif wore in Thor 2 but even that would be soooooo far from her usual style.

I think she looks royal enough in MK9. Her blue is lighter and more feminine plus the every elegant silver and that "you will learn respect" attitude. I think that's about all the princess we'll get from her.

Plus she's princess of Outworld. The emperor himself dresses similarly to her. There's really no need to make her style of dress more of a european princess look.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I'd like to see costumes for Kitana and Mileena that resemble the looks Kevin Tancharoen gave them in Mortal Kombat Legacy. The outfits are form fitting, they're an appropriate, more believable looking attire for fighting and they aren't revealing.

Given that this is MK and I'm sure the girls will likely be half naked as usual. But hey, I wouldn't mind to see a look like the ones in MK Legacy in the new MKX game.

Yeah, it's kinda Tekken-esque, but it suits her. With the right tweaks, this could be a very good costume for her. I'd love to see her in something like this.

Exactly, look at Shao Kahn. Kitana and Jade's 2011 costumes were great. I was pleased with them, even though Kitana should have gotten this look way back in MKDA. Mileena's costumes were good, very fitting, but they are pretty much the same as her MKD costumes. Jade's were similar to her MKD costumes, but they gave her new hairstyles and she shapes of her costumes are different. The one thing I don't like about Jade's 2011 primary is her bustier shows way too much cleavage, like her nipples should be popping out, that's how much cleavage is showing. I like the revealing costumes, just as long as they're well done, like Jade might not have nipples because if she did we would be able to see them in that costume. Mileena might not have nipples either.

I liked Sonya's 2011 costumes. She needed a tank top or a T-shirt under her vest and she didn't need high heels either. They work for the Edenians but Sonya doesn't need heels.

Sidel's costumes could have been much better in 2011. They were just okay. I liked the homage to her MK3 costume, but I think her costumes could have been much more regal and elegant. They did a better job with Sindel in MKD. Her face looked way better in MKD also. I didn't like her voice in 2011 either. Sindel is still supposed to be beautiful and enchanting even though she's really old. She's the queen of Edenia.

I agree. Those were very well done and very fitting for the characters and their roles as assassins.

There's nothing wrong with some characters showing a little skin, but MK9 went WAY overboard with it. There wasn't really a single non-retro female character design that I actually liked. My advice for NRS would be to focus on making the costimes GOOD first, and sexy second. For example:

Kitana: Kitana is a princess, as Icebaby said. But she is also an assassin, and it would be paradoxical to try to make a costume that suited both at once. Make one assassin costume; Kitana has historically worn a one-pieced, leorard-type suit and a mask. The leather theme of Scorpions MKX costume would work wonders on Kitana. It's fine if her thighs are exposed. Then make a princess-themed costume; this one can be a little more MK9-esque, and a little more eye-candy-ish. Disney's Princess Jasmine, fro example wore a two-piece with an exposed midriff, but don't go utterly insane with it. MK9's alt would be going too far, plus it was a pretty bad design imo.

Sonya: Simply put, NO CLEVAGE, NO HIGH HEELS EVER! In fact, apply the high-heel rule to every primary costume. Sonya has a history of exposing her midriff, which is enough but isn't overboard. My favorite two designs are her MK Shaolin Monks look and her MKDA primary. And remember when they actually dared to give her an even more realistic, in-character alt in Deadly Alliance? Good times. MK9 is my least favorite design by far though.

Jade: Jade's primary in MK9 seemed to take inspiration from the UMK3 days, except it cut away as much fabric as possible, especially around the boobs.... don't do that, those side-boobs were hideous. Her alt was actually okay for an alt, except I wasn't crazy about the hair or the high heels.

Mileena: Go all out with her. This is your chance to make a character as skimpily-clad-to-the-point-that-taking-a-step-would-realistically-cause-a-nip-slip as you want. If you want to push her to the fine line of legal and banned for explicit content go ahead. Just don't carry that idea to any of the other characters.

It would help to tone down the battle damage and again, no high heels. I know these characters won't necessarily be in the next game, but you get the idea. Hopefully with all the criticism from the last game NRS will actually consider doing something about the issue this time. And one more time, NO HIGH HEELS!

I don't mind high heels, I just don't want ridiculously revealing costumes.

DOA does enough of that for the entire gaming industry. Mortal Kombat does not need to tag along.

Just wait until the female characters show up. Someone (or some people) aren't gonna like how they look and start debating on why they shouldn't be looking like that and they should be looking like this and blah blah blah. Her boobs are too big? START BITCHIN. Her legs show way too much skin for her character? START BITCHIN. Raiden wears heels now? START FUCKIN BITCHIN.

Sonya's outfit was just terrible in MK9. She needs to look more like she did in Shaolin Monks. She still had a midriff, but overall she looked a lot more combat ready, and not like someone that makes her money by dancing on a pole.

The rest of the females weren't much better. I understand that every fighting game needs its obligatory over-sexualized female fighter, but in MK9 every single female was over-sexualized.

I hope every female gets a complete overhaul, look like actual warriors, and hopefully also have varied body types.

1. I don't mind revealing when it works. IMO, The Edenians have always been that way. Sonya should be practical. Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Sindel, Tanya, go effin' crazy.

2. Heels need to go away. Heels are not practical. At all.

3. This is a tournament and in many ways, a war. Sorry but makeup and lipstick shouldn't even be a thing for most of these characters. Nobody puts on makeup before going into battle.

Absolutely. This site will debate female costume nuances like TYM debates "back to block" the "run button", and MK vs IGAU. It's awesome.

Also..since we're getting nostalgic up in hurr, let's not forget about the infamous "red leg" teaser leaked by Boon. We know now that it was Skarlet but Garlador's fanart had everybody, I mean EVERYBODY thinking that it was Sareena.

I think from this thread alone people are still irritated by how Sonya looked (myself included) haha. Good times, good times.

I agree with 1. I do not agree with 2 or 3.

2. The heels work for the Edenians just like the revealing outfits as aesthetics and artistry are big in Edenia.

3. Again this point may work for Sonya, but not the Edenians. The Edenians are all supposed to be amazingly beautiful, except for ya know Mileena, but she's only half Edenian.
