Man, from the way people are posting, Motaro should be in the lead... But no.
What the heck did Goro even do impressively besides being some hell of a thing to look at when Mortal Kombat first came out? I mean... He gets his butt owned by a few characters, Liu, Noob... Kahn demands him like crazy. He does nothing.
And as much as I love tigers, Kintaro isn't that much of a help either.
I just don't get how Goro is in the lead. I get that it's pretty much a popularity vote, but I'd figure Motaro would get the most since he's the most wanted subboss.

Motaro just don't have what Goro has. As I posted earlier, Motaro was only awesome in MK3-MKT, that's all we have to go with because in his few other appearances, he was nothing. He had something cool, being a big badass subboss, it worked for him back then, but Goro is just a better developed character, he's been in more games, his playable versions have been quite cool, he's got "seniority" (though I personally don't count that for much), he's the freaking Prince of Pain! And I just personally prefer the Shokan over the Centaurian.
It is the MK teams fault for not giving us more Motaro to base this on, but what we got of Motaro can just not keep up with the awesomness that is Goro. Motaro is like Rain, he's almost a cult-phenomenon, only a small group of people like him but they are also the ones who voice their opinion so it just seems like they are the majority.
I agree with you on Kintaro though. If it were up to me, the kitty got kicked.
First, I'm surprised that Liu didn't blow Hotaru away even worse than he did! Apparently there are quite a few people who are sick of him....
Second, I had to go with Goro on this one. I don't mind Motaro, but I just never really CARED about that character. I always liked Goro and Kintaro.... and to a much lesser extent, Sheeva, more than Motaro.
Does anyone really think Sheeva has a snowball's chance tomorrow?

I agree with a lot of this, especially the part about Motaro not being relevant since the MK3 story. They neutered him by making him a minotar and although not technically "his" fault, I hated him like that. The added cockamamie BS about how/why he lost his legs only made things worse for my opinion of him.
Conversely, Goro's an icon. Does he live up to the icon status? Probably not. But, I was in such awe when MK 4 came out and he returned after having been gone. I've never had that same nostalgic feel for Motaro.

I also loved playing as Goro in MK Armageddon, his gameplay was quite nice for a powerhouse character which I usually don't like to play as. I also think his role and gameplay in the new MK is quite cool.

One is the bodyguard of Queen Sindel, the other is bodyguard to Shao Kahn! The battle of the heavyweights kontinues with two Shokan from opposite ends of the spectrum! Sheeva is of the royal Draco bloodline chosen by birthright, while Kintaro is from the lower class Tigrar, who earned his place with unspeakable ferocity. Only one can progress!

Uhm...
Anyways...
Sheeva was a cool addition to the series back in MK3, the first playable Shokan with some original Shokan moves like the telestomp and some unique moves like her projectile which looked like a huge electric ball instead of a fireball which so many others had. Sadly, it turned into a fireball in the later games.
She had a strong story in the original timeline (bitch killed Motaro) which sadly wasn't shown in the new timeline. Her MK Armageddon outfit was awesome and I home we will see her in that in the next game.
Kintaro has always been a stupid copy(cat) of Goro with no real story or purpose other than yet another of Kahn's minions who gets killed. A subpar character who also looked incredibly ridiculous with his furry tiger theme and it became no better in the new MK where he actually got a cat nose. Kintaro is laughable if anything and his few lines in the newest MK were cheesy as hell.
Kick the kitty out of here!
My vote goes to Sheeva.
Edit: What the hell?! I voted Sheeva (and I made sure of it!) and it says Kintaro is at 100%?! Now I am really starting to think this game is rigged.

If it were before MK9, I'd vote Sheeva for sure, but she's terrible in the new game. Kintaro was never a favourite of mine but he's cool in MK9, in spite of the kitty face. He gets my vote.
Pretty sure it was always just a blue fireball.
It takes some time to update.

Goddammit, I accidentally Sheeva.
Kintaro is my preference. Always been my fave of the Shokans, and his (hidden) bio's references to his status as a member of a shunned sub-race of Shokan was exactly what I wanted to see. Plus, "Humans....less ugly when they burn" had to be one of the game's best lines.

Ah, phew, glad my vote went through the right way. ^^
Wouldn't wanna vote for the ugly fuzzball.
And yes, it was a fireball, but I said "it LOOKS like", not that it is an electirc ball. In her other game appearances, it just looks like plain fireballs.

Kintaro. Granted that i liked sheeva more compared to kintaro before MK9 but that all changed when MK9 was released. they just made him so badass.

Sheeva.
She was one of my favorites in MK3 and I was glad to see her again in MKA plus I enjoy using her in MK9.
Kintaro has a cool design but he doesn't impress me much and I don't think he did much in the most recent MK.
At least Sheeva is playable.
Why didn't the ladder have Goro/Kintaro and Sheeva/Motaro. That seems to make more sense.
