When it comes to Finals Fantastic, I's be the casual gamer. Hell, the only FF games I ever liked was VIII and XIII.

I still don't know why people get up in arms over this debate over popular characters. If you want to know where your character stands popularity wise just go to the official site. TheMortalKombat.com. Then go to most played character in the stats.

Ermac is not in the top 5.

There you have it folks the top five most played. Yeah It's most played, but I think that says a lot about the popularity as well. Ermac ain't there. He is a cool character admittedly, but he's not in the top 5.

Could it have something to do with those characters are easy to play as and are easy to spam with, perhaps? I do think that is part of the reason they are high up on that list. I'm actually surprised Kung Lao isn't on that list.

Being the most playable in one particular game does not constitute popularity over other characters, and this is coming from soneone who plays the shit out of Smoke.


For someone who can't stand the arguing, you sure seem to be headed towards one.

Instead of complaining about it, and adding to the supposed negativity, why not throw a little happiness our way?

I could easily see that being a reason for 3 of the guys on that list. Scorpion, Raiden, and Smoke are all spammable bastards in MK9 along with Ermac and Noob Saibot.

Honestly though if we had to say spam characters I would not put Liu kang nor Sub-Zero on that list. Honestly I think Sub-Zero's playstyle is the reason he is behind Raiden. Sub-Zero plays bulky and slow and that's from a huge Sub-Zero fan. Raiden has the single easiest teleport of any of the characters and I can't tell you how many teleport into combo or teleport into supermans that I see. Liu and Sub-Zero are there based on their popularity and name I believe. As well as Scorpion and Raiden. Smoke on the other hand is another story. I am firmly convinced if he wasn't one of the easiest characters to spam the hell out of in this game then he wouldn't have the popularity that he does.

He and Noob Saibot are the worst ironically. Talk about NoobSmoke team up again.lol.

Scorpion has easy combos, Smoke's aren't too difficult, but I don't think that simplicity would apply to the other three. Ermac is pretty easy to spam too, BUT he's kind of slower than other characters and has some input lag. He's like.. #15 on the list, I think. xD Honestly, I don't think it's a complete indicator of the character's overall popularity. Just my opinion, though.

I personally like Smoke for other reasons than his spammability. But I think you already know that after the many discussions about him. ^^

As for Raiden, I can't get into his playstyle so I am not sure why he is in the top 5. If you say it is because of his teleport, then I trust you on that. :P

Sub-Zero, however, both human and cyborg, is a character I think is fun playing as and is one of the characters I can actually do some decent combos with. I think it fits his playstyle to be a bit slower and bulkier in gameplay, as long it plays to his benefit. His freezing ability makes up for it ALOT which is also why I think he is one of the top 5 on that list.

I was once up against a Subbie player who spammed Freeze Ball as if it was a Hadouken. Not cool! (get the pun? :D )

As do I. I actually like Smoke because of the strategy involved with his moveset- as in the Shake move and the Smoke away/smoke towards moves. Very interesting and sort of technical.

Raiden... I dislike his moveset and play style so I don't understand that either. xD

Sub-Zero, I suck with. I can only do up to 6 hits with him, and it's a pretty lame combo anyway. I'm much better with CSZ. And I agree, it does fit Sub's style to be a bit slower because of his ice abilities and just how he plays.

Jade's 17, I believe. Understandable, I find her difficult to play as, but I'm working on it. I like her, so I'd like to get better with her.

Jade is in 17th place which considering her gameplay I think is actually a really solid spot. She's above Sindel, Mileena, Sheeva, and Skarlet as far as females go but behind Kitana and Sonya with Kitana being the most played females. Skarlet should be a given though considering she was released after the main launch.

I could also see Subz Ice balls being spammed, but they are easy to get around and considering they don't do any chip damage you can just sit and block them for a while unless he starts getting in close which is where Subz does most of his damage. He is fun to play as though and I like his playstyle. I still think it's a little slower and I have found that a lot of players like the teleports so Sub-Zero lacks in that department. That's why I feel he is behind raiden. If he had that tombstone teleport I think that he would probably be in second right behind Scorpion, but that's just my opinion.

I know you like Smoke for other reasons besides his playstyle, but I was simply stating that if one of those characters in the top 5 is simply a result of their playstyle I would go with smoke for sure. His playstyle is super easy to spam and that probably moves him way up there.

Again though on Jade. While she may be at 17th considering her playstyle I really don't think that's a bad spot.

I think 6 hit combos are decent combos... because that's kinda what I can do too, mostly. XD

Jade is difficult to play as, and I think I read something about her not having enough low hitting attacks in combos or something which is true too. However, I love the reach she has with her staff and those kicks of hers which is mainly what I make use of with her.

I use Cyber Subbie mostly too, I just like his style more and I think him being a cyborg is awesome overall.

I just fell in love with Smoke almost instantly. His hair is part of it, but the way he shows affection for Subbie in Story Mode, it sparked my inner yaoi-fan. XD
Also, he is incredibly fun to play as and funny enough, as it has been mentioned many times before on this forum, Smoke is probably the most ninja-like character of the whole game, making use of stealth and smoke bombs the way he does. Him being reborn as an enenra, a smoke demon, is kinda cool too, as I also have a weak spot for demons. ^^

Okay, I start to slowly forgive you for that whole Scorpion episode earlier. ;P

I can do like... 12 hit combos with Ermac so six hits kind of throws me off. x_x Even though Ermac and Cage are the only characters I'm decent with... I can do a couple good ones with Kitana and Kabal :'D

Yes, she is just kind of hard to string with. I love how she has moves where she just hits you with her staff like it's a bat or stabs you with it, and her kicks are great, I agree. She's just a great character, and really awesome in gameplay when you know a bunch of combos with her. :P

I like his splits attack. It does an insane amount of damage, therefore, I like it.

KIDDING, CSZ has a lot of cool combos and awesome moves and I love the way his X-Ray activates personally.

As did I. Smoke was just... so interesting and awesome to me. Honestly, he was the only character I got genuinely near-tears 'oh my god why did you die bby' when he got killed. You know, during the 'Sindel murders half the cast in 10 seconds scene'. xD His hair bothered me at first, now I like it. AND YES OH MY GOD THOSE TWO ARE PERFECT I mean. I love their relationship and how it's played out, it's great and an interesting addition to story mode. (you can see that it sparked my inner yaoi fan too.)

Smoke... yeah, he is pretty ninja-ish. He's quite fast and stealthy and perfect for doing 'ninja-like' things. :P I agree with that. Also, the fact that he's an enenra is completely awesome. His story is a bit sad, but that was just a really cool and sort of unexpected part of his character. Love it.

Okay so I just looked up what yaoi is and I must say I just don't see that relationship with Smoke and Sub-Zero. They are like brothers which I've brought up before.

How come nobody ever throws out that Kitana and Jade are lesbians? They essentially have the exact same relationship. I thought that Sub-Zero was attracted to Sareena in the old timeline I mean he offered her a place in the Lin Kuei if she could earn it and she's a demon for all he knows she would murder him. She could make an interesting love triangle with Bi Han and Kuai Liang I feel because I think both brothers have something there. Or would have anyway.

Now Smoke in MK9 is another story. The way he ran to Sub-zero and was just overly emotional about Sub-Zero just made me think Okay does he have a crush or something? I guess I would describe that as a one way street. Smoke may like subz(even though I still think thats a far stretch), however Subz does not feel the same about Smoke possibly.

Not hating I just don't see it that way, and maybe you guys do that's fine. I just don't see why when two guys who have grown up since childhood have a friendship that people automatically look at them as gay when that's not the case. Especially when the same thing is happening in the same game between two females (Jade and Kitana).

I hope people are taking into consideration that fan sites aren't the only spots for Mortal Kombat fans. You are forgetting about those who don't join these kinds of sites and are fans to particular characters.

I cannot really say that Scorpion or Sub-Zero has the most fans because we don't know those that remain to stay silent.

I will say, however, that you are looking at A fan of Sub-Zero's. I'm indifferent of Scorpion, and probably will be until they finally do something different to him.


Just a thought in case people are dead serious about the likings.

Seriously,ppl,can't 2 adult males have brother bond and because of it some concern about each other and what happens to them? If I was in Smoke's place and my best friend converted to cyborg,I would run to him too and be sad as fuck as well. Does it automatically mean I have a crush on my best friend?

I swear,sometime folks see what they WISH and WANT to see. This whole Smoke/Sub-Zero angle people bring up every time is groundless and tiresome,actually.
