And for the record, Mortal Kombat is highly synonymous to Pokemon, in terms of legacy, iconography, and popularity among individual characters, so there is no greater comparison. Also, considering Pokemon's age demographic in the U.S. consists of teens and young adults, I don't think it's childish to reference it.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Sub-Zero is more popular than Ermac, but I don't really have any information or statistics to back that up. Besides, that would be hard to judge anyway. Generally, Sub-Zero and Scorpion are about even in popularity, and I have no clue where Ermac would be.

I still think Ermac takes place in Top 5. Sub-Zero may be more popular, but he isn't in the lead by a legion of sub fans.

SubZero is OBVIOUSLY more popular than Ermac. The red ninja is a pretty interesting character but his popularity isn't even close to Subby's. That's a FACT not an opinion. Your little "show me evidence" excuse is silly.

At the end of the day.....scorpion isn't in the final and that's a reason for all of us to celebrate.

You don't have to be a household name to have a large fanbase.

Even though I love me some Subby, I do know that a lot of his popularity comes from casual gamers, who are not necessarily MK fans. Ermac, however, seems to have it big among MK fans, and not just on this site.

Anything after the #2 spot is a crapshoot. Ermac could be #3 just as much as Kitana. Or Smoke. Or Reptile. Or Kung Lao. Or Raiden. Or Noob. Or Shang. Ermac's beaten Reptile, Shang, Smoke, AND Noob on his way here (and Baraka is no slouch either). He's had a far tougher road to the final than Sub-Zero, who dispatched the likes of Daegon, Frost, and Quan Chi (sorry QC fans, he's third-tier at best in terms of popularity).

My point is that Ermac has beaten the best to this juncture. He's a top 5 character, there's no doubt in my mind, and I'm not even speaking as an Ermac fan here. The proof is in the results. Oh, and:

Well, I am when it comes to Jade and my skills in Mortal Kombat. I know where Jade stands in the whole world of MK, I know of her significance and role, I'm even aware of how people think of her as low-tier and is one of the lesser played character (I believe she was at the bottom of the official tier list at some point, if not still). That doesn't change how I feel about her, but I am realistic about it and not calling her the best character in MK as a statement or anything like that.
Also, I play fighting games because I enjoy them, but I don't strive to become the best of players. I don't have a competetive mindset and I know that compared to many other players, I suck at the game, but it doesn't matter to me as long I am having fun. I don't mind getting beat up and lose in fighting games, as long I had fun playing it... which is why I don't play online anymore, because I keep meeting people who spam alot and "play it safe", so to speak, and I don't find that fun. It's just repetative... but anyways, getting sidetracked here.
Sub-Zero might be the most popular character of MK, but there is no reason to get up in people's faces about "your" (as in not you specifically, but the fans of Subbie) character is the "best" and most popular of them all. It generally boils down to "My dad can beat your dad" kinda mindset which I regularly see in some of the users on here, specifically the Scorpion and Sub-Zero fans, because they ARE the poster boys and they ARE the most popular characters of the series, and thus some of the fans live highly on that.
I could learn some humility too and I have gone into a phase where I am trying to do so. I dunno if you saw it, but I asked people in the Drive By thread if and what areas about me is what makes people reply to me in very negative ways which I had happened to me quite frequently lately. So yeah, I try to improve.
And that's my point, really... We should be more kind to one another. We all have flaws, we all can be assholes now and then, and it is so easy to be so when there's a screen between us and the rest of the world, a screen that protects us from any real consequences... In the end, it doesn't matter which character is the best, as long we are having fun which was the intention with this poll to start with.
It would be awesome if one of the two most popular characters didn't win this poll, because then the fans of those character could maybe sit back for a bit and think a bit about it. I try and be positive about it, as it could easily result in never-ending rage and hatred from those fans, thinking it is unfair and that everyone who didn't vote for their favourite character are trolls and retarded, etc etc... I just hope that won't be the case.

I'm not shooting them down or anything, but they only know who's put in front of them the most, so when it comes to the popularity of characters from a video game, I never count the casuals, only the fans.

You'll never hear me talking about who my favorite Final Fantasy character is, I'll tell ya' that.
