In Sindel's case, that's exactly what it is. Her background story provides her with many different paths to follow after she is freed from Shao Kahn, or even if she stays evil. Say this time around Sindel doesn't turn good like she did in Deception (and I'd rather not bring up anything past MK3 in regards to story potential because that's one path they chose, not the only option they have and definitely not the best). That's an entirely new angle to take her without being out of character. The writers work their magic (as they do) and find a way to give her back her free will without giving back her proper memories. Sindel could easily become a major villain based on that. Say through writer voodoo (if they aren't above using it, I'm not) Shao Kahn comes back and is written to be directly involved with Sindel, that's two entirely different stories she could have right there based on whether she stays evil or returns to normal. Then there's Ermac/Jerrod, which is a situation that could be developed in many ways with Sindel's involvement providing development to all three characters. Perhaps she is at odds with the other souls in Ermac, maybe she wants to fully restore Jerrod, maybe certain evil souls in Ermac are manipulating (good) Sindel and leading Edenia down a specific path, something that Sindel must realize and prevent....

I don't mean to rant and I'm not saying Tanya doesn't have plenty of potential but... When it comes to possibilities, Sindel's full of them based solely on her background story, nevermind any other developments she might have had in MK9.... And let's not let her shitty role after MK3 leave us thinking they can't do any better.

The wannabe versus the real deal?

***** Please. I like Reiko and all, but he's got nothing on MK's number one warlord. Often imitated, never duplicated. Maybe some of us have gotten sick of him in recent years, but he remains one of MK's most iconic boss figures, second perhaps only to Goro in terms of classic status. Blaze, Onaga, the Deadly Alliance, and Shinnok never came close to the challenge of Kahn. Reiko's entire shtick was "I wish I could wear this guy's helmet".

I'm gonna say it this way: Shao Kahn is awesome. We all know this because he's Shao Kahn, right?

But I'm sick of him. We thought he was gone in 1997, but then no, then again in '02 and then he came right back. So no.

Reiko has very little character development at the moment, but I could see him possibly becoming interesting, whereas Shao Kahn, in my opinion, has reached the end of the line.

Shao Kahn for sure. He's in my opinion the best boss in Mortal Kombat. Reiko will always be in his shadow.

I love Shao Kahn and Reiko but i'm gonna have to go with the big Emperor because he has done so much more for the story then Reiko.

I love Shao Kahn, but I LOVE Reiko!
Shao Kahn is the coolest villain of Mortal Kombat, but Reiko is brutal, sexy, intelligent and I love his special moves and his looks. There's so much mystery about him that I hope will be explored in the next game.

I was never attracted to Shao Kahn like that. SO NO!!! ;P
And his voice in the new MK is just so NOT how I imagine Shao Kahn's voice should be like. It sounds so... wrong. He even have a slight lisp. It's just not brutal enough. His newest outfit is also ugly as hell!

Now when I think about it, Shao Kahn has many things against him which only proves Reiko to be the better choice, imo. The only thing I didn't like about Reiko is his fighting style in MKA, but that's only because I don't think it fits him. It fit Mileena perfectly in MKD though.

Reiko just always seemed boring to me.

He was the only new character in MK4 who I felt had no purpose. I mean, there's not really anything interesting going on with him, to me. He's just an army general who likes putting on other people's helmets. Nothing special there, if you ask me.

Super fun gameplay in MK4, fantastic new look in MKA + fun gameplay again with the most badass looking throw animation. The General Reiko's Map Arena in the Konquest mode was so badass and his "relationship" with Quan Chi sounds very intriguing.

Shao Kahn I'm just so tired of. How many times more will he explode?
