Cage hits on a woman who's not interested in him, proceeds to follow her to a very dangerous and remote location to continue sexually harrassing her, beats her up when she defends herself, then plays hero when she's further attacked after being assaulted by him. Dude's a serious sex offender, and I always found his interaction with Sonya during the first tournament seriously creepy rather than humorous. I mean, dude can uppercut a guy's head off...what would happen if he hit on a girl who wasn't as tough as Sonya and she said no? o.O

That really took a piss on Cage for me, personally.

Jade on the other hand, was sassy, cheeky, loyal and is interesting to play as (not the best character but if you put enough time into her, she's far from the worst). I wasn't fond of the gigantic, oversized boobs that looked like tumors on her chest and I did miss her exotic, mysterious and sultry look she sported in Deception (particularly her face, her features seemed way too refined and slim in comparison the the face she had in Deception) but overall I was happy with Jade in MK9. So even though she trumped my favourite characters (Skarlet and Mileena), hats off to her. She deserves to go through to the next round

Hold the phone. First off, all he said was "Hey beautiful" and "I'm taking you out... For dinner". It's not like he said "Nice ass sweetcheeks".

Secondly, she hit him first. He was only defending himself. He was trying to be protective of her but she just punched him in the stomach. Ok he called her "baby" but is that any reason to hit someone? Well he put his hand on her but that's because he was worried about her wandering alone on the island. How was Cage supposted to know she was a Special Forces agent who could handle herself?

Her outfit sure didn't say it.

I think its ridiculous to dislike a character because of their storyline and character growth in a fucking fighting game

That's funny. How many threads in these forums are generated by strictly fighting related discussions and how many do you think are generated by the storyline and where the characters have been or could go?

People are drawn to this series and stay with it for a variety of reasons. The gore and violence, the fighting, the story, the characters etc. So to suggest that some of those ideas shouldn't be taken in to account by fans when voting for characters, to me at least, sounds a bit ludicrous.

That might work for you, and if so, great. But when I look at a character, any number of things might appeal to me or make me like them less and yes, storyline and growth are factors to varying degrees.

I don't subscribe to the belief that a character being "classic" should be a factor (though many others do). So I might take story in to account less if a new character was going up against an old one. But that's just me.

I might take fighting in to account less if a character has a cool look and story background but happened to be in one of the 3D games where they only had 2 special moves, or borrowed special moves and similar dial-a-combos to everyone else.

Sometimes you have to look past certain things, and sadly, annoyingly, sometimes fighting is one of those things.

So to me, there are an infinite number of things that people will come up with when voting for characters, why they like characters, why they hate them etc.

I voted for Jade for some really good reasons, and probably for some really dumb ones as well.

I loved how she played in UMK3, I like my memory of first fighting her in MK2, I like that she was a hidden character to start with, I like how her look has changed over the years, I like that she's Kitana's friend, I like all of her pole-based moves and combos in MK2011 (including her stripper spin victory pose), hell, I like the color green.

Of course, I weigh all of those things differently and when I vote, I really only take a few seconds, because I already know my opinion, but if I had to think about it, those are the reasons I come up with. My logic and reasoning would be completely different for another character.

There are a million other reasons and some of them have to do with her gameplay and a lot of them don't. To expect people to only take fighting-game reasons in to consideration on a site dedicated to one of the best fighting games with arguably the best storyline in a fighter? That might be a tad bit unrealistic.

But her body language and obvious uninterest in him was completely obvious from the get go. She didn't even seem remotely interested in him when he was speaking to her during Shang Tsung's speech. Anyone else would get the hint that she was uninterested, yet Cage persisted.

Then he follows her to the pit, where she's trying to get support from her colleagues, and continues to try chat her up. She even says "I'm in no mood to be hit on by some movie star" and makes it very obvious she's no attraction towards him (in a rather polite way, for Sonya anyway).

Rather than go "fair enough" and walk away, he grabs her as she's walking off and says "Look baby, I can't let you run loose without an escort". Bear in mind their location and Sonya's current position: she's on a bridge that's miles above a bedding of blades with a man who's persistently trying to seduce her whilst herself and her colleague are being forced into a tournament she want's nothing to do with. Obviously she was going to strike him, she'd been polite enough to decline his advances and at this point now he was invading her personal space by grabbing hold of her as she tried to walk away.

Not only that, but his last line is a fairly chauvenistic (and albeit, a little bit sexist) thing to say to her, and his grounds for concern are only because he's been actively romantically pursuing her, at this point he's had no other impression of Sonya to assume whether or not she's any sort of meek Damsel in Distress. He's even aware of the fact and acknowledges that her outfit is supposed to be military gear when he says "So that's not a costume? You're actual military?". It's not like he's had any grounds to assume she can't defend herself, realistically he was just forcing himself on her, and when she tried to defend herself, he kicked her ass.

Smooth Johnny. Very smooth.

Liked both, but in addition to being much more fun and rewarding to play, Cage's overall performance and portrayal was one of the single best things about this whole game. Cage easy.

I must say it bothers me that, with the exception of Kabal and Ermac, the only characters left are from MK1 and MK2.

I really wish Sindel, Bo' Rai Cho, Tanya, and Havik could have made it this far, somehow.

Well it is Johnny Cage, he thought Baraka's blades were fake. He thought Reptile had an agent. Johnny didn't know what was real and what wasn't. Trust me, If Sonya told me she was a Special Forces agent wearing that outfit...

I'd be skeptical too.

Crap.

No. That's not a name of the character I am voting for. It's just means that I'm completely confused as to who I want to vote for.

On one hand I absolutely loved Cage in MK9. On the other - I'd like to see Jade advance, just to see more females among the finalists of the poll. Besides, she had the best design amongst female ninjas in MK9 (that is not really saying much since all of them were pretyty awful, Jade was a bit more lucky and green clothes and dark skin, kind of shades awfulness of the general design). I liked her personality, but I expected something different. I expected her to be something more like Pre-MKSM Kung Lao in personality - quite humble friend of the main character. But, I am not against brash and arrogant Jade either.

However, realisticly speaking I don't think, that even if Jade survived this round she would be able to advance to the next stage of the voting - too many big names over there. Cage just have more chances to go further and as I said before I really like him after MK9. Besides, he have a distinction being the very first MK character created, so I think it would be justified if he would be a possible contender to the final battle. First place for the first character.

In the end I choose...CAGE!!

My point was that she didn't need to tell him anything. He was hitting on her, she wasn't interested, and he persisted to the point where he not only followed her to a solitary place but then continued to harass her by hitting on her further and grabbing hold of her as she tried to leave. Further more, he beats the woman up when she tries to defend herself.

What she wore during the tournament doesn't give Johnny the excuse to not take "no" for an answer. Admittedly, he was quite gullible and foolish in regards to his Outworld opponents, but Sonya is from Earthrealm and he's a movie star. Surely to god he's enough people skills to know when a woman's not interested.

I see your point. Johnny is from Hollywood, he is used to getting whatever he wants. He was completely jaded when he got to Shang's Island. And while her body language said "No", I think she secretly loved the attention.

(Opinion of course)

As expected, Jade is losing to Cage. But of course I voted on her still. ^^

I liked Cage in this game and I don't see him as a sex-offender, he's just somewhat stupid. He's the embodiment of a Hollywood movie star stereotype, not too bright, but full of charisma. He thinks himself to be funny and likes to joke around while those around him facepalm everytime he opens his mouth, and he doesn't know when to stop which is shown when he unwillingly provokes Jax into hitting him. He's a joker and he fits the role perfectly. There's no reason to take him too seriously, so all the chatting about him being a sex-offender is taking it a bit too seriously.

Jade is everything and more that I wanted her to be in this game, personality wise. There is always room for improvement, but I loved how she was represented in this game - her relationship with Kitana, her sassy attitude, everything! Her personality was spot on of what I have always seen Jade as. I never wanted her to be the dark brooding persona which I have read others always wanted her to be like, because it simply wouldn't fit her, imo.

Though I doubt Jade will win this round, I think she had a nice run and surprised me with her defeating Mileena, totally didn't expect that.

Yay for Jade. ^^

Are you serious? Johnny Cage a sex offender? It's called "Hollywood swag", meaning his ego is off the charts and he's not afraid to talk to the babes. He was outstanding in that aspect! And by body language, that definitely changed as soon as he saved her. She was smiling at him right before he fought Cyrax(Yes I caught that small moment). So drop the sex offender thing and just enjoy the characters lol

In the words of a Disney movie: "They think no means yes and 'get lost' means 'take me I'm yours'"

... In all seriousness, can I just say that Johnny Cage is not funny at all? His funny lines are cringe inducingly, face meltingly, spine shatteringly, child birthingly bad.

That's just like your opinion. My advice to you: don't consider it truth in the last instance.
Me and many other people, even on this forum, think that they still care. MK9 had its questionable choices, but many things related to the characters and their stories were siginificantly improved over previous games. And that's clear sign that they actually still care.

SubMan799 Wrote:
Darrius is a character with depth. Darrius also happens to be a shit character nobody cares about. On the other hand, Mileena has been retconned to be the equivalent of a child with a rockin' body, yet people still love her.

He considered as bad character, because his story barely had anything to do with MKD main arc (in a sense he was useless) and because he used borrowed fighting styles and specials. Mileena (pre-MK9) had tragic background, charisma, one of the best costumes in the series (in MKD) and heavily progressed from being just "evil Kitana clone" to the character of her own. And her ties to the MKD arc was very important.
So, it's not weird, it's completely normal.
