Ok you're right about the nostalgia,but i still feel that he's not a terrible character.NRS really failed to make anything special about scorpion in MK9's story.My guess is they thought that everyone preferred him a villain, so they kept him as one in the story.They had a real chance at making him different than what everyone else sees him as,a revenge driven lunatic.I see him as a father a husband that is in real pain,the two people that he cares for more than anyone else are dead,and he wants"and eye for an eye" so to speak.And the about me saying the story about the elder gods,i meant for a couple of the ps2 era mks(couldn't remember which ones to be honest).But i still don't see how sub-zero or noob have stories that are great.Sub-Zero becomes grandmaster of the new Lin Kuei? Kinda boring Noob basically brings smoke back from the dead? Meh.
What i'm trying to say is their stories aren't that great either.But here's a question.Wouldn't you do the same thing in scorpion's shoes???

I don't think that's ridiculous. There are many aspects to each character outside of their individual play style. In a fighting game, their appearance is as superfluous as their storyline, but it is still a factor for many in how they judge the character. I even think it's valid to have your opinion changed on a character by how they are utilized in the marketing of the game. The only thing I think is ridiculous is to have a one dimensional view on how everyone in the world should think.

I enjoy fighting Shao Kahn and I like his mannerisms in game more than I like playing as Kitana.

Character growth and story developments shouldn't be the deciding factor in how much you like a character. If that was the case, everyone would prefer Darrius and Taven over Johnny Cage and Sonya.

A moderator utilizes their authority to affect in the outcome of a tournament in an offensive manner, held by the staff itself. It's not out of this world for other sites to deny the staff from trying to affect to the results, seeing the authority, but I don't think we'd need to be that radical for this little tournee.
Whereas I'm humbled, I really am, that so many users have taken my HTML advice into utilition, I find it rather rude that you've hotlinked a scene from the first USA–Finland ice hockey world championship 2012 match in a Smash Bros. banner that has absolutely nothing to do with ice hockey.
What comes to the match: Finland had just had its harsh Canada game, being tired, and hadn't gotten any time to practise whereas USA had time to practise and rest. Moreover, the team USA practically consisted of NHL professionals whereas the team Finland had mere two of them. And ultimately it was Finland who dropped USA out of the competition. (Their players were good but USA's head coach is still trying to settle in IMO.)
So I'm not sure why you've hidden a scene like that in there; considering that I'm the only active Finn in here, I wonder if that's something personal. I only wonder why you didn't instead shout it out in the actual thread for that.
What comes to disliking a character, I do agree to the point that genuinely hating a character might not be necessarily good for anybody and not very realistic either because the characters haven't really done anything bad for you. Of course I can see if some people just love to hate on some of the characters just because it's fun but ultimately I don't think that's hate.
You should really not take a competition that dead seriously and secondly you shouldn't utilize your authority in a wrong way, to insult people with "Vote this or you're irrational" kind of messages – but posting "I voted for that guy" at maximum. This tournament is supposed to be a little fun for the community as far as I'm concerned, that's all. Not some insult fest.
Sub-Zero is half Europid (came from USA) indeed but I don't see why that should affect in people's decisions. About 9/10 of the MKOmmunists are American so if everyone followed your premise, Sub-Zero would easily win. But people don't do that. Smoke, on the other hand, is also Europid (came from Europe) but I would not suggest people to vote for Smoke because of that; it falls down to the bottom of the reasons why I prefer Smoke, as I had liked Smoke before they revealed his origins as well.

The bottom line is: you really shouldn't take this competition to the point where you start to insult users and to advantage your authority in a level that's crooked. It leaves a bad taste of you and this competition. Thanks!

Not necessarily rigging, I don't think it's rigged (mods are users too) but I think that the moderators' words are stronger if you get what I mean thus they could influence a lot in the outcomes at will which would be a little questionable. Mainly I was just pointing out that one shouldn't insult people's honest reasons for why they vote (otherwise questioning is okay IMO). I mean, there provenly are e.g. story people in this site, cardinal.

If Stories are useless arguements in favour for or against a character, then why do you think MK even bothers to include a story at all? Why not just do what Street Fighter does and cut straight to the battles?

MK's lore and the lives of it's characters are just as important, if not more so, than the blood, guts and violence that made it memorable. Obviously even the team know that if they were prepared to invest so much time and effort into the Story Mode in MK9.

1. People have right to decide for themselves what they like about characters.

2. Special attention to the storyline and violence is what make MK different from all other fighting games.
Did you see how much people on this forum ready to talk about story, characters development and personalitites? Did you see anything like that at, say Street Fighter or Tekken forums, where most of the talk about gameplay and not about story? This is a prime example that people care about MK story and for many of them, including myself, it is the main attraction of the series. So, many fans decide why they like certain characters precisely because of the story.

And one mnore thing:
Darrius is a nobody. He barely had any relevance to the MKD plot and his personality wasn't very fleshed out. Taven was good character, but nothing special. Beside he was forced to be the main character of the series, without any development. So it's natural that people disliked him.
