Dave,

I got the frame data from SD Tekken and it states that Nina's d/f +1 is +1 on block. Could they be wrong? maybe d/f+1, 2 is -2 on block?

It is very wrong. SDTekken has a lot of mistakes.

d/f+1 is -1 on block. Her 1 after it beats 10 frame jabbers but not 8 frame jabbers. Go figure. I'm telling you. Namco fucked Nina in DR. I'm not exactly sure what d/f+1,2 is but surely it doesn't give any advantage.

Dan, I'm sorry but I was laughing when I saw your videos. You cannot mix up d+3,2 and d+3,4 and expect to win against anyone who knows anything about Tekken. Your Tekken knowledge is extremely limited. No wonder you don't like it. I suggest you pick a new character and start all over. I'll give you some advice if you are serious about playing the game. Play Tekken the same way you would play MK (or any 3D fighting game for that matter). That means, learn the good moves, learn how to punish, learn how to space yourself (backdash, hayashida stepping, etc.), familiarize yourself with the character you're playing against, etc. etc.

And forget about SC. It's Namco's version of MK. VF is the best 3D fighting game but no one in the US really plays it.

my 1st online tekken win

im now 1-25 LOL

Dave ~ i like eddy and his lows, what are his best moves i should focus on?
i've given up on Nina, is it me or is she a bad character? if she is a low tier then add the fact that i suck could explain why i havent won until i used Eddy. sadly im 1-3 w/ eddy though LOL that was pre practice though.

ok clearly im just a super bitch and have problems losing.

since i picked up Eddy im now 5-1. problem is i think im using a infinite maybe?

ok i know its not because couple folks have gotten out of it, but they still died because of it.

the move w/ Eddy is foward 3+4 when they are down i figured that i just do this move over and over again till they die LOLOL kinda like what Jade own used on me w/ Julia ~ it clearly has worked. i just wanna know is this an ok tactic to use?

either way he's a funner character to use he moves faster then Nina and has better low string combos. i noticed a few other characters have this so imma have to check out more characters.

i just wanna know if this is an ok tactic before i go on playing. get back to me ASAP guys please.

Eddy:

d/f+2 - one of the best moves in the game. It is -10 but only a few characters can really punish it. You get free dash in, QCF+3 when it hits. f+3+4 also connects up close. On counter d/f+2 juggles! Follow up with something simple like d/f+1,1, 1,2,4~4.

d+4 - poor damage but very annoying low attack. It is probably the best d+4 in the game because even at -11 on block very few characters can actually punish it because of Eddy's body position. d+4 crushes high attacks.

SS+4 - one of the best low attacks in the game. It is safe. SS+4 actually hits twice. Second hit can be blocked on regular hit. On counter, though, both hits are guaranteed and you're given a lot of advantage.

u/f+4 - this move crushes low attacks and it is safe. Very useful.

Mix up all of these. d+4 and SS+4 are lows. d/f+2 and u/f+4 are mid attacks.

RLX (Relax) Position. Performed manually by d+3+4. In it you have:

4~3 - two low attacks that trip and juggle. Once you do it, let Eddy get back to RLX, and then combo with 1,4,4,3+4, d+3.

3~4 - a mid juggle starter. Follow up with d/f+1,1, 1,2,4~4.

These two cannot be seen on reaction so it is a very easy 50/50 mix up. The problem is setting up RLX because most people will hit you out of it or backdash. I'll share some advanced RLX set ups once you understand the basics.

Throws: Generic 1+3 and 3+4. d/f+1+2 splats your opponent to the wall when your back is facing the wall. Nothing is free as far as I know.

HCF+1+2 - top 5 throw in DR. 55 pts. of damage, easily bufferable, etc. Abuse it!

Wall Carrier: Eddy (ONLY), juggle starter, d/f+1,1, d/f+1,1, d/f+1,1

Wall Finisher: u/f+3+4 (i.e. Ch. d/f+2, d/f+1,1, d/f+1,1, wall splat, u/f+3+4)

Use Eddy. Forget Nina for a while, or at least once you learn how to play Tekken. I can show you how Eddy is used when I'm online.

PS: f+3+4 is ONLY for combos. You were playing some noobs probably who were back-rolling after getting hit. f+3+4 is not even safe.

i didnt read this info until i got done playing you.

as you can see im only less then one day into using eddy. ill practice all that shit you just posted.

also yea now i see that f+3+4 can not be spammed.

ill post a video of some of the games we played later today or tomorrow.

few questions

1 ~ how did you wake up so fast, i need to learn how.
2 ~ how do you preform that low parry?
3 ~ is there a way to get out of throws?
4 ~ that move that you spammed w/ the sumo was it hitting me high or low? i kept blocking high but still got hit i tried low i think i was able to block but IDK it owned me LOL
5 ~ any other characters you suggest i use? that 2 hit steve move was insane thanks for being nice andn ot using it alot LOL

i really haveno clue whats coming at me i dont know what hits high or low or mid. so far i know just nina and eddy, ill slowly move on to the rest to see how to properly block my foes.

i liked that side step tactic u use ill be using it.

ok well sabres are coming on soon thats why i left. cant wait to play again, ill be going into practice some more later ill look and see if your on.

1. Press up to quick stand immediately. Stop rolling back. In Tekken when you roll back, moves can still you.

2. Time d/f with a low attack. Eddy gets free d/f+3+4 both when he parries a low kick and a low punch attack. Your opponent is in a crouching state after you low parry him/her.

3. Of course. This is not MK. Tap 1 to escape generic 1+3 throws. Tap 2 to escape generic 2+4 throws. Keep in mind, you have more time to escape long range throws (f+1+3 and f+2+4) than normal throws (1+3 and 2+4). f,f+1+2 throws (for those characters who have them) are escaped with 1+2. As for some other throws, you just need to memorize their escapes. For example, King's f,HCF+1 (Giant Swing) is escaped by 1 while his d/b,f+2+4 (Tombstone Pile Driver) is escaped by 2.

Crouch throws follow the same pattern (i.e. escape d+1+3 with 1 and d+2+4 with 2).

Air throws are inescapable and so are back throws.

4. It is d+1+2. It hits mid and gives a lot of advantage on hit so don't try to attack me.

5. Just try Eddy for now. This isn't MK. Learn one character at a time.

Make sure you take advantage of Tekken's practice mode. Practice your combos!

I'm getting my speed updated very soon. It will be four times faster than it is now so hopefully our connection will be even better next time.

Dave,

concerning escaping throws, is it a guessing game or can you actually see the left and right hand during the grab animation?

It can be seen but it requires a lot of experience and dedication. When I am grabbed my mind reacts 80% of the time but I still have trouble recognizing the animation and pressing the appropriate button.

It is especially tough with certain throws, such as Jack-5's u/f+1+2, Eddy's Rodeo, Devil Jin's f,HCF+1+2, etc. because they are all 10 frames (without execution) and they are all bufferable. They can "surprise" you and by the time you realize that you've been grabbed, it is already too late to escape them.

Some throws also have similar animations. King's iSW, GS, and Tombstone Pile Driver all look very similar so it is tough to escape them. That is why King's throw game is the best in the game, and many high level players claim that he is the only character with a legit throw mix up game.

There are also some throws with extremely precise escapes. Marduk's tackle (I know it's not a throw per se) is very tough to escape at times. I believe the further away he is from you the harder the tackle becomes to escape. Steve's wall push also has a precise escape (very similar, if not alike, to all the wall pushes in Tekken 4).

All throws in DR can be side stepped, though, with the exception of long range throws, which are much easier to escape.

You can also choose to duck them and it is very well worth it if your character has a good WS punisher.

I just have a few questions about DR if you guys don't mind.

1. Is it true that other people online can watch you duke it out with your opponent. For example, if they're in the same room as you is there like a little screen showing you and your opponent going at it?

2. Is there a price to download DR or is it free?

3. Is DR modified? Disabling GameSharks etc.?

4. Now here's the long one, hehe. Is there any advice you can give me on Ling Xiayou? Like what are her advantages and disadvantages or what's the best way to play her?

3. I don't think you can use Gamesharks online. On a side note, does the PS3 even support those kind of devices yet? I have yet to see one at my local video game store.

Otherwise, everything is the same with DR except that you cannot use Jinpachi (the game's boss) online.

4. I don't know anything about Ling. She's one character that very few people use in DR. Your best bet is to check out Tekkenzaibatsu.com. Go to their forums and go to Ling's strategy thread.

it just popped in my head, go back and watch that video of me vs jade own. you will see that he invites another dude to play w/ us. the 3rd match is actually jo vs him.

you can have up to 8 players in one room, you wait your turn to play, while waiting you watch the other players in the room play full screen. if you win you stay on top, if you lose you move to the bottom of the list and have to wait.
it doesnt effect online play i noticed, which is good. i hope the next MK has this feature.

That's pretty tight. This will totally eliminate the chance of pulling, lol. That is, if there is any. I doubt it because I don't think anyone wants to make themselves look stupid in front of an audience, lol.

Nice vids Dan. Jadeown. I like that Roger. Good Eddie Dave. Anyone of you use Anna a bit? I really like her. She is better in DR than in 5.0. Finally she's better than Nina. I've only got back into Tekken for only a couple of months. Been learning alot. Mainl Anna stuff. Well I went back to practice some more interesting combos with her. I just performed a 67 damage combo. This combo took me a few days to do. FC f+1, d+4,1, d/f+1, ff+1, ff+3~4~3. I know It's only 5.0, but it's all I've got at the moment. Maybe I'll get a PS3 this christmas I'm hoping. Here's the link to me doing that combo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1ypmVuSlzg

What would this combo be considered? basic, intermidiate, adavnced?

I don't play Roger that much. I was just messing around with the Kangaroo. Anna is my main character in DR. She is really good and even better than Nina. Anna + wall stages = game over. Her wall game is phenomenal in DR. Here is a simple wall carry juggle that I use the most, d/f 2 launcher 1,1, u/f 1,3,3+4 depending on the splat you can get f,f+3,4,3,b+3 for high splat and d/f+1,2,4 for low splat. This is 75%, 80% in damage. After the wall splat you can play her pressure game, throw mix up, d/f1, d/f4, ect. The main thing is to apply pressure when you have their back against the wall. Her oki game (hitting the opponent when they are on the ground) is really good too. She also has a few unblockable tech traps with a free juggle afterward.smile

ok sad to say im already quitiing this game. i still own it so ill prolly go on if im bored.

my reasons

1 ~ i need an arcade stick to pull off some of these moves during play.
2 ~ when im knocked to the ground i feel like im playing MKDeception.
3 ~ the fucking walls furious furious furious
4 ~ no block button, i need my fucking block button i feel i cant defend myself at all. then i think to myself wait a minute KI and Street fighter dont have block buttons why dont i have a problem w/ those 2. I DONT KNOW.
5 ~ i find myself button mashing. its the only time i compete.
6~ i was suppose to have lots of time on my hands to learn how to play w/ being Unemployed, but i just got offered a chance to run a restaurant. i want to not have to work for awhile after working for 15 years. one just doesnt turn down that kind of job though. i find out next week if i start then.

this game is definitly more in depth then mk, w/ all the moves different throws low parries, high parries and all that good stuff.`

Less is more!!

i like my simple MKA and MK2. after playing this game i like MKA more. i guess im a mk fanboy or whatever.

i cant wait for Soul Cal 4 it will be online and i can play that game.

Only her 1+3 throw differs from Eddie's. Everything else is the same as far as I know. However, some juggles that Eddie can do Christie cannot. It has something do to with character size (i.e. I thik Eddie has longer arms while Christie has longer legs).

Yes, mics can be used I think.

Dan, you should have at least learned the game before quiting it. 3D MK and SC are horrible games.

funny as i find them to be very good games. i beem playing the souls since its release in the cades back in 95 i think confused

Soul Edge~ was the only game to get me to stop playing MK2 and KI.
it was something new and fun. all of us would play this. i think Tekken 2 was in the cades as well, we tried it for a few days but got bored fast. I dont know its just not for me.

see i have always disliked Tekken since the 1st one.
i was under the impression that DR was 100% different then the 1st. i hated the 1st and DR is pretty much the same game.

thanks for giving me all the info to try and get it.

Tekken wasnt for me back then and it still isnt for me . i wish i could get my money back LOL damn online store.

if theres a day that you and Jade own wanna cap some matches, ill definitly play w/ the 2 of you so we can cap games especially w/ you 2 playing.
