I just can't get over all of these good guys. 13 characters are on the good side in MKX- plus 6 who are neutral but are siding with the Special Forces (Kotal's group) so that leaves only Mileena, Quan Chi, and Shinnok as villains.

That is vastly over saturated.

On that I agree ! ...and I really want to see the neutral ones and the evil ones

I was doing this same math this morning actually.

Boon said in a tweet that there were actually closer to 200 brutalities. That would mean there would be close to 8 per character if it stays at 25 (with goro) seems a bit unlikely to me.

I still am banking on the roster being larger than expected.

That leaked list may have been the initial intent, but NRS has said multiple times that they kept adding characters until they ran out of time.

Seeing the space ships from story trailer, the focus on the damn special forces and the whole military vibe given priority instead of the dark mystical and oriental feel of the series really makes my eyes roll so bad. Feels like Independence Day shoved down MK's ass. I hate military shit... As if there wasnt enough military themed games out there with that overused "epic" flavour..

Also yeah, as many have been posting. WAY TOO MUCH GOOD GUYS, wheres the conflict in that?

I hope im wrong in all my assumptions but what's been shown is no indication of the contrary. Hope also DLC characters make it more interesting -__-.

We had discussed that as well. The original plan would have been to IM a mod (namely, Mick) like she did for MK9's Rant Thread to have it Stickied.

Actually on second thought, it might not hurt considering there's still post-release to consider. And about this overflow of good guys business....perhaps not all of them will remain good throughout the story. *GASP* Although I'm still in total agreeance with @Chrome. We need to move past this strictly [elementary] bad vs good scenarios. Deception was almost there. What with Raiden, Shang, and Quan Chi joining forces, but it didn't last long.

The ratio of humans to non-humans is odd for me as well. I get the next generation thing but it does lopside the roster. I don't see the whole "too many special forces" though. Story-wise Earthrealm is now fully aware of the other realms, so characters like Johnny and Kenshi would naturally ally with them. Similar to how most Outworld fighters were on Shao Kahn's side during the invasion. Takeda and Kung Jin are more allied with the special forces than full-fledged members, imo. This can be seen in the story trailer when Cassie's leadership is questioned. And honestly, after Raiden's brilliant leadership in MK9, wouldn't you want Sonya and Johnny to lead the new heroes with him?

But like I said earlier, there are seemingly too many humans for a story that takes place in Outworld and the Netherrealm. Erron Black is a great addition to the Black Dragons, but does Kotal really need him by his side when Mileena doesn't seem to have many supporters? Shinnok doesn't have many people either. Kitana, Kung Lao, Subby, and Jax may fight for him in the early stages, hence their inclusion, but other than them he only has Quan Chi and possibly early Scorpion as real allies.

I like the roster gameplay wise, but as far as the story it seems very hero heavy. I do think the lines between "good guys" and "bad guys" should be blurry, however in a fighting game story you need a reason for these guys to fight. I'm not seeing many fight to the death matches with the current roster. Kotal vs Mileena is pretty much the only one (other than everyone vs Quan Chi).

I know a lot of people are complaining about the population of the roster being aligned on the good side, and that there's too many characters who are human, but has it not occurred that since there are so many of them, that a majority of these humans may die?

Having the story be told from a grounded perspective that most normal people relate to is a great format when dealing with supernatural and mythological elements in Mortal Kombat. That is why I favored characters like Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya because you went on this journey with them when they discovered the likes of a thunder bearing god, shape shifting sorcerer, a four armed half human half dragon, a hell spawned ninja and another who can freeze things at will.

A character such as a simple shaolin monk, an out of touch martial arts movie star, and special forces operative for the army isn't something we're not familiar with and that's what makes the mystical appear more mystical. This adds the lure and appeal to characters that we all hope to see.

I believe that since MK1 the story has followed the main three protagonists and MKX is still a continuation of that story in that its showing them enter the next generation. This story is the perfect opportunity for those old school classics to get a proper good bye if this is the route I think the story is going.

I am hoping against hope that the leaked roster was what they intended at an earlier point. They did say that there adding more characters as they moved along until they ran out of time. Or perhaps the leaked roster does not include unlockable characters.

My issue is that they also have said people directly involved in story mode will not be DLC. I wanted to see 3D era characters like Fujin, Tanya, Reiko and Bo'Rai Cho...but it would be pretty lame if they are just DLC with no role in story mode. All four of those characters I just named, for instance, have good reasons to be included in this game's story mode.

So I've got a feeling DLC will be made up of nothing but "classic" characters(i.e., Trilogy characters) who didn't make it into story mode and guest characters.

The thing that makes me the most upset is the guest characters are to please the people who are not even true mk fans.

Agreed, I hate military shit too, but I still think this game will be awesome regardless of its apparent focus on the Special Forces.

I also think we could use some more bad guys too.

And who is a true fan?,oh,i know,those who play for the fatalities and those who nitpick kitana's hair.

I know its a douchey thing to say, but I consider my self a "true fan" and the fatalities aren't all that important to me, its the characters and the story that I love. I love the fatalities too, but I don't think many hardcore fans are "playing for fatalities" that sounds more like a casual fan thing to me.

At least those things are related to MK, just saying.

The peoe that are true fans are the people who will be playing this game till the next one. Not for 1 month cus it's the latest things. People who appreciate mortal kombat for what it is are true fans. Not people who want to see a bunch of slashers face off cus they think it's so cool.

Isn't there one final Kombat Kast left, meant to mainly focus on the story mode? I think people should troll the hell out of NRS about the roster during the Kombat Kast.
