Yeah, right after the new gameplay the people on 4chan's board /v/ were going nuts. First it started with the fedora guy, then it blew up. The Lego guy though, some of these are just so silly. I hope Boon or someone sheds light in the coming weeks to see how close people's guesses were for the fake roster. I think that was a point, to see how much people could eyeball and complete just by a silhouette.
The idea of them being a hint at who could be in the game is funny. But since some of them are new characters, I don't see it entirely being true.

Yeah, I'm willing to bet these are just made up place holders meant to get the whole MK Kommunity going rabid speculating over nothing.

Ed Boon (In the Giant Bomb Interview) has said that there are hints within the pictures with a few misleading ones. So this is at least worth continuing.

I'm trying to be optimistic but I do have to say that I hope all the new characters don't suck like the ones from MKDA and MKD, except for Kenshi.

At this point, there might not even be a Dragon King saga anymore. Or if there is somehow, it'll get done by this game since we go from MK9 up to 25 years into the future (which is way past Deception and Armageddon).
And from what I picked up, it seems that the characters that would appear might be more common, familiar MK characters to balance out with the new characters coming in so I don't know if we'll see a huge chunk of post MK4 characters as previously thought. We'll probably see popular ones like Kenshi but I don't know about characters like Ashrah or Kai at this point.

Personally, I think he should. They can't just not explain why he showed up in MK9 and then not show up in MKX unless they really want to save him for after MKX (and even then they probably would have to show him to explain that).

My initial guess at this point is that he might be the first arc of the story mode before getting to the real big bad of this game.

Not necessarily. NRS are talking a LOT about going in a brand new direction for this game. And we pretty know for a fact that Shinnok WON'T be the be the main antagonist, even if he does appear. They honestly haven't said a word about this game in relation to MK4-Armageddon. It's looking like they are pretty much done with all of that and moving on to new stories.

For the DLCs: Would be nice for Rain, Kenshi & Skarlet to be available now.

Hello! my first post here...
Some of my opinions about the characters on the new game :

I think Quan Chi will obviously be in.An old version of Kano (55 years old and still kicking ass).
Raiden for sure will be in, maybe in a different form.
Mileena is very likely to be too, shes alive, doesnt age like Earthrealm folks, same to Ermac and Reptile.
I can see at least one of the Cyborg back.
I think the MK4 (except Jarek) are ALL great!
Tanya and Rain are from Edenia, so 25 years are nothing to them, I can see their history being related somehow, for me they must be in!
I would like Reiko to be the boss, or a normal playable character, Fujin would be amazing too.
so for me, the other 18 characters should be:

I like the theory that Liu Kang is alive, but it's pure speculation, there's no evidence to support it yet. So in this post I'll be going off the assumption that he's dead. I think all priority for returning characters should go to those who survived MK9. The characters who weren't seen in the Netherrealm and who didn't appear to meet an obvious death are:

-Scorpion (confirmed)
-Sub-Zero (confirmed, even though both iterations did seem to meet an obvious death)
-Ermac
-Reptile
-Sonya
-Johnny Cage
-Kano
-Mileena
-Sektor
-Cyrax
-Baraka
-Sheeva
-Quan Chi
-Raiden

That's 14 characters. However, I would not be upset at all if Baraka and Sheeva are dropped, which gives us 12 playable returning characters; half of the roster.

Ed claims that he thinks this game introduces the most new characters in the franchise; before this game, MK Deception introduced 8 new characters, but if you count all the new MK3 characters as "new" in UMK3 as well, I count nine in that game, so a safe assumption would be ten new characters for MKX. We have 4 so far, so six more would be a LOT!

That leaves room for only two MK4-A characters, assuming they drop two characters from MK9's returning roster, and that there are only 24 characters. I'd say Tanya and Fujin get the spots.

But I also think there's room for some unlockables, which I'd give to Noob Saibot, Liu Kang, Kai, and Reiko. If all else fails, I'd take out a few more MK9 characters in favor of more returnings; maybe get rid of Reptile and one of the cybers or Kano.

Some of the popular characters who died in MK9 would be good candidates for DLC as well.
