God I hope it's a teaser for both the new game and for the new movie.

So what gives? If you know all about the new game how can you not confirm or deny or even know what this is?
I would think you would be quick to shoot it down or confirm it given how much you already know....

"Now it looks as if we're going to finally get the rated 'R' reboot we fans deserve. Kotaku has the first look at the Mortal Kombat test video shot for Warner Brothers to get funding for a full blown hard 'R' MK movie. Yes, this is the direction they plan on going for the Mortal Kombat reboot. And I've got the exclusive goods on who played who.
The short was directed by Kevin Tancharoen, who did the remake of Fame last year. Judging from this short, Kevin is the perfect director for this movie.
Jacks is played by Michael Jai White. Michael played Spawn and was in Undisputed II. Michael makes a great Jacks (Jax).
Sonya Blade is played by Jeri Ryan, who played Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager.
Baraka was played by the very talented Lateef Crowder, who plays the Brazilian fighter in Undisputed III.
Scorpion is played by Ian Anthony Dale. Ian plays Kazuya in the upcoming big screen version of Tekken.
Johnny Cage was played by up and coming martial arts sensation Matt Mullins.
Still working on who played Reptile. Will update when I find out.
The fight choreography was done by Larnell Stovall. Larnell did the fight choreography for Undisputed III and is one of the best fight choreographers in the business. You want to see the fights you deserve? Then you fans should DEMAND he be the guy in one charge for this reboot. Click HERE to read the exclusive interview I did with Larnell.
I know who might be playing Sub-Zero, but don't want to mention it in case it screws something up. He'd be perfect for the part.

Duly noted.
However the problem comes in when you say next. If Armageddon wasn't a real hint dropping that they wanted to sew up the current MK....
Also, generalizing a little bit here. Why do you feel personally robbed when MK is by all means the brainchild of those who in charge? Are those people endebted to you to continue what they really do not want to continue? Think about this and the fandom concerning MK.
Also - - -> MK as it is IS NOT RELEVANT. MK is no longer shocking, is no longer unique in aspects that matter, even style-wise it is not much to stand out from the competition as a franchise.
Risque as it is, this change is what MK needs right now (and pray they do not bring Frank Miller or the current Loeb into writing from WB, though Miller is not WB now as I recall).
Sad it is, I think it is time to let go. Clean state.
What I advise, is to deconnect, charta pura blank state and evaluate the new MK as it is... then compare it to the previous.

That is odd. But given the tweets from some of the delevopers in the last hour, I am willing to bet this has nothing to do with the game

Oh yeah, "dude was born with a skin disease, still eats his victims heads though" is totally a personality. Sure. There's no goddamn REASON given for why these characters are serial killers. It's a god damned five minute trailer. You can't possibly call that fleshed out. You're just dazzled by the bullshit realism.
I love Mortal Kombat for the comic book fantasy aspects. Take those out and you don't have anything I recognize or enjoy. I want portals and soul stealing and shit. I want Cyrax and Sareena and Kenshi. That's Mortal Kombat to me.
All this has is the same character names and the gore. If the gore's all you care about, how the hell is that enough content for you to have message board conversations? Seems pretty fucking shallow to me.

Must people argue? Everyone has different opinions, just leave it at that. No need for pointless immature arguements.
I personally really don't know what to think. I hope it's for a new movie and or series. I just wish they would come out and tell us already, it's driving me crazy.
I really like Reptile's story. Not a fan of Baraka's new dreads or his "doctor" story.
I'm loving how it's more reality based but I hope it still has a bit of fantasy elements mixed in.

If this has nothing to do with the game, then HOORAY!! New MK movie in the works and possible reveal of new MK game all in a matter of two weeks. How exciting!! Atleast if this is a movie it'll get people's balls out of a twist as it can live as its own universe.

It's better than "Last member of extinct race"
I mean seriously, how many forms of entertainment make up an entire race just so they can have some character? Almost every single fiction does.

You not liking one storytelling trope doesn't address the fact that this still says nothing about the characters' personalities, thus you can't actually call it deeper or more fleshed out than 18 years of ongoing plot.

He does have a point. So far Reptile is a Mortal Kombat version of Killer-Croc.
But aside that, if you really are attached to the -imo 90's style- classic MK, then you do not have to necessarily agree to like anything about this. That is valid, however, if you give it a shot. Or not if you're completely put off.
Just do not go complaining about it, until you have seen it.
