I'm big on seniority. To me. Kitana/Jade/Mileena are the original ones, they have been there since the beginning. Skarlet just popped up a few years ago, she is not deserving to be categorized with those three. She's just another henchman character. Kitana, Mileena, and Jade have long backstories.

I'd love to see a brand new ninja character. Not sure what color he'd be since they're running out of options, but a brown ninja that controls earth (no, not Tremor) could be cool if done right.

I am with ya there. And I am hoping he is a super secret character for nostalgia sake. Even if the character is not even playable, Itd be cool if he was even palette swap of scorp. and then the rumors come and he's playable in the next game. (a la reptile/ermac back in the day)

Ed Boon confirmed it way back in 2007, during Khameleon's promotional video for Amrageddon. He stated how Khameleon adopts the moves of the female ninjas, listing Tanya among them. Also, Khameleon does have one of Tanya's moves, further establishing her as a ninja.

In any case, the women tend to be referred to as 'female ninjas,' so I don't think they count. Any of them could make it into the game.

This would be like if people went their way to shun Ermac, Noob, Smoke, Rain and maybe even Reptile, because Scorpion and Sub-Zero are the two first palette swap ninjas.

Mention one thing about Tanya that makes her a ninja. Forget all the other characters, forget what Ed Boon said, forget about Khameleon... Focus on Tanya and tell me what about her makes her a ninja.

I think the point here is that since the inception of the game several characters despite how they have evolved into their present existences, were originally identified (incorrectly or correctly) as ninjas.

BEFORE the characters got complex and the lore of MK has expanded, when boiled down to it we identified many of the characters as ninjas, because of their palette swaps off the original ninjas.

So your point is moot, because Ed Boon named Tanya as a MK ninja. Throw all the real world definitions away; because this is fantasy, and redefine ninjas for the sake of MK as characters who wear a color of the rainbow and at some point wear a mask.

What defines a ninja in MK then? Tell me. Is it enough that Boon calls a character a ninja for you all to see it as a ninja, even if that character has no qualities that is even close to being a ninja?

If I am being honest I fully expect to see every single ninja in this game by the end. Packaged with the game? sure, I'd say reptile and ermac have the best shot. But lets be honest, the ninjas are the most popular collective characters in mortal kombat. They will be DLC because boon and NRS knows that they will sell very well. To long time fans the ninjas are very popular and they will be embraced by new comers as well because they all have interesting abilities and costumes.

I feel like it's either Ermac or Reptile. But honestly, I feel like it would Ermac, if it couldn't be more than one. I mean, he could have a dramatic change over the years due to his multiple souls and such.

The only things that define a ninja in MK are having a generic single color scheme and being a palette swap.

Tanya has the single color scheme of yellow, matching Scorpion (the biggest giveaway that she is ninja). In addition, Tanya is in fact a palette swap of Kitana, as the appearance initially belonged to Kitana in MK4, before she was cut from the game.

Kira has a single colour scheme: red. Is she a ninja?
Li Mei has a single colour scheme: purple. Is she a ninja?

It's not enough for me to define her as a ninja. But if that's enough for you to call her a ninja, then continue as you were.
