What exactly do you mean with character expansion? You mean the part where it is explained he is a lower class Shokan? That amongst Shokan, he's a nobody, just muscles on legs. Is that what you mean?

Yes, and a nobody in particular who impressed Shao Kahn sufficiently that he appointed him his own personal bodyguard after seeing him slaughter a bunch of Centaurs. It was also nice to have confirmation that he was indeed of a different class like so many of us thought over the years.
You could argue that this is non-canon as it's only viewable from raiding the code IIRC, but it does show us that they put some thought into him. I hope they pick up on it in the future.
And his "Less ugly when they burn" line's a great one. Really gives a sense of sadism and, along with the Centaur killings, a feeling of superiority over other species; contrast that with Goro who's capable of finding his otherworld opponents honorable, or Sheeva, who like him is presented as at least willing to work with them for the benefit of her own race. This game made Kintaro into one unpleasant bastard behind the scenes, and it was about time. We got ourselves a fully nasty Shokan for once.

So he's a low-class Shokan who likes violence... It's not enough to impress me. I am considering it canon though, unless otherwise is stated, but I still find Kintaro many steps lower than Goro, and many other characters for that matter.

Man, 8pm and still deadlocked. Best vote yet!
Will someone please vote for the four armed guy that doesn't like catnip?

Well, that's your prerogative. The whackjob pulled on Goro back in Gamecube MKD, having him turn around and backstab the alliance for Kahn was one of the worst bits of writing MK's seen after the way MK4 and DA built him up. I'm all for classic characters, but right now Goro stands out as the best case of 'classic doesn't mean great' at the moment to me.

Picked Goro because of 3 reasons
1) He's easier than Kintaro
2) More personality & story
3) I flipped a coin

Cultures collide in a klassic kung fu showdown! From the realm of Vaeternus, Nitara is of a race of immortal vampires who have frequented the Earthrealm for centuries! Who better to quash the vampire incursion than the ancestor of Earth's greatest champion, Kung Lao?! Hop to it!

So far Kung Lao has a 100% lead. That's probably because I was the only one who voted so far. Anyways, I've always thought Nitara was a stupid idea for a character personally. Kung Lao, on the other hand, is badass.

Yay, Goro won! ^^
I vote for Nitara this time. She won't win, obviously, but I still prefer her over Kung Lao.

I fucking hate Goro. He was never, and never will be, as bad ass as Kintaro. And you can "blame" NRS for the difference in portrayal.

Kung Lao has the awesome hat, and I've always thought that it would be cool to see him take over as "the chosen one" some day, but man, NRS really seems to be hell-bent on ruining him for me.
I thought that he was one of the coolest characters I'd ever seen in a video game when I first saw him in MK2.
But they keep giving him this unlikeable personality of the jealous upstart and then to have him get killed the way they did in MK2011's story mode?
I'm starting to think that NRS will never put him in to the type of role that I've always thought he could have, which basically makes him to Raiden and the good guys what Baraka, Rain, Ermac, Milleena etc are to Shao Khan.
A lackey.
He's basically just a guy on the team, and that's regardless of whether or not he's actually the Great Kung Lao or not.
Nitara meanwhile is unexplored territory. She's a vampire which, in spite of the awful teenie craze thanks to those horrendous Stephanie Meyer books, is still a big plus in my book.
I'm not a huge fan of the wings, though maybe it was because they were so static in MKDA and MKA, but her overall looks are intriguing and I think that she has the ability to be a wildcard and a player in her own right.
Kung Lao, great as he is, probably won't be much more than that. Nitara has a ton of potential.
I voted for Nitara.
Granted, she'll be crushed, but if anyone beyond MK2 makes it out of the next round, I'll be surprised anyways, so I guess it's no big deal.

I'm sorry if you can beat the shit out of the deadly alliance, and OWN Kintaro you have my vote. Kung Lao all the way.
