Doesn't invalidate my point at all.
MK4 characters need a lot more than TLC, though. They need complete redesigns as far as gameplay goes.
As far as Shinnok being better than Kahn... honestly that just makes me snicker a bit. I remember fighting Shinnok in the arcades... there was nothing but disappointment. He looked like a clown and was a rip-off of Shang Tsung. I think I even laughed when I found out that he was the end boss. Kahn legitimately intimidated the fuck out of me. Shinnok's a joke compared to Kahn.
That's not to say he can't rise to meet Kahn in epicness... but he's got a large flight of stairs to climb to even come close.

I don't like either... But I think I dislike Shinnok a bit more than Liu Kang. So I voted for Liu.

I purposely spam Liu Kang's bicycle kick just to envole this reaction from people.

Liu kang
The only think I like about Liu Kang is his gobbling. Other than that, he's boring. Shinnok.... Is also boring and does not make turkey noises, but I voted for him because I figured Liu Kang would win anyway. I can't bring myself to vote for overrated generic characters.

They need designs period. The MK4 characters are just generic BS versions of character that got taken out during development. In general that's something that NRS has to stop because it only worked with Havik. MK4 characters need a lot more than TLC, though. They need complete redesigns as far as gameplay goes.

I never said that Shinnok was better than Kahn. I said I thought he made a better arch nemesis for Raiden. The fallen Elder God versus the protector of Earthrealm. Good shit. Kahn makes an appropriate big bad for the Edenians and other Earthrealm characters. Also you're clearly talking about gameplay.
There's no need for any of the boss characters to be ridiculously imposing during gameplay with how far video games have come with their ability to tell a story.
Shinnok playing like a Shang Tsung rip off just reinforces the idea that the MK4 characters need personality and life in their moves and gameplay. Not old gimmicks from missing fighters.
And if Shinnok looks like a clown than Quan Chi looks like a french mime XD

Voted for Liu Kang.
Although I kind of miss his turkey gobbles on his Bicycle Kicks in MK9, it's nothing important. Liu is probably one of my best fighters, and he is unique in a certain way, because he is able to play two different styles during Kombat: Up-close pressure and fireball zoning. It is a great feeling being able to utilize both tactics in one match with one fighter.

I think for the rest if round 2 we will see Kang win (-.-) Goro win (51%) Kung Lao I think will have one of the biggest wins of this round and scorpion will barely make it out alive. Sonya and Kano, that can go either way and I have a feeling Kano may pull it off well just have to wait and see.

This is pretty much how I feel about Shinnok. He definitely has potential as a villain, but he has never impressed me. He looks lame, his fighting style isn't interesting, and he just feels lackluster.
Liu Kang on the other hand is one of my all time favorite characters. He's based off of Bruce Lee, he's fun to play as, he uses fire based attacks (before many other characters started to), and he can turn into a Dragon! He's my fourth favorite MK character, my favorite Hero in the series, and he sure as hell kicks the shit out of Shinnok.

Shinnok. Cant find one interesting aspect of Liu as character whatsoever. Shinnok on the other hand falls into the category of characters with potential that just happened to debut in a lame game...I bet the next one will do him justice like this one did for most of the characters if not all of them...

Edit: Ah...once again the results are predictable. I might as well not vote again and post a prediction of how it's gonna go. -.-'
Goro beats Kintaro
Kung Lao beats Nitara
Sonya beats Kano
Scorpion beats Noob
Next round:
Sub beats Quan
Kitana beats Shao Kahn
Cage beats Jade
Raiden beats Kabal
Ermac beats Shang
Smoke beats Liu
Kung Lao beats Goro
Scorpion beats Sonya
Next round:
Sub beats Kitana
Raiden beats Cage (which doesnt really matter)
Smoke beats Ermac (same here)
Scorpion beats Kung Lao
Then surprise! Sub and Scorpion move to the finals in which i dont really care who wins.

Just finished creating 93 accounts to vote for Liu Kang, that's why I haven't commented yet. Just kidding, but I'm actually surprised he's got the lead. I could understand why he beat Hotaru, but against a character that actually has some fans and a bunch of people who have convinced themslves that Liu Kang is the most boring, annoying character in the history of Mortal Kombat, I didn't think he'd stand a chance.
I never really understood why being a do-no-wrong "boy scout" type character was equal to being a boring character. I think he's gone through a lot in the story, from sacrificing a normal life to protect Earth by becoming the champion to having his people slaughtered to having his body used for evil by a corrupted Raiden while his disembodied spirit watches helplessly. MK9's story mode also showed that even Liu Kang has a breaking point; if you get his friends killed and go to a bad guy asking for help with another bad guy, he'll take matters into his own hands (albiet getting beat and electrocuted in the process).
In a one-on-one fight, obviously Liu Kang would win. I kind of wish he wasn't the one to fight Shinnok in MK4 though. It seems it would have been more apropriate for Raiden to beat him. But this is more about popularity than actual fighting skills, and I voted for Liu Kang. Once.

First off Cage will beat raiden and Ermac will dominate smoke...
lol
Smoke has proven that even the weakest Male Ninja is stronger than the most popular cyborg.
Liu Kang is a weak character to begin with, he's very important to the series and everybody knows who he is...but he's boring. (I think they should make the whole Liu Kang becomes an evil tyrant ending cannon somwhat...perhaps now that Liu is in the netherealm Shinnok has made him a demon or something, then eventually he takes over...when MKDA comes about he will ironically replace Quan Chi as the other half of the Deadly Alliance with Shang Tsung).
Anyhow, the point I'm trying to make here is Smoke is having a dream run here. He's not in an easy bracket at all, Sektor, Cyrax, Liu Kang...but he matches up so well against them...where he would be destroyed if placed elsewhere.
For instance, like I predicted, the closest battle thus far has been Rain vs Kitana, followed by Ermac vs Reptile...Smoke would be destroyed by both Rain and Reptile, I'm talking in the 30% range....he'll be sominated by Ermac...dominated.

Also MK5.org set this tournament up pretty nicely. Everyone paired together seemed to have some corealtion, and so far the pairs keep on having corelation, I like that.
Also, Noob Saibot (Bi Han, the Sub-Zero from MK Mythologies and MK1) is a pretty popular character...if placed elsewhere he would most likely make a run at the final 4. Also, Noob Saibot could conceivably beat his younger brother in a popularity contest if both characters were listed by their real names rather than their codenames...basically what I'm trying to say is, if this was a tournament on GameFaqs then Sub vs Scorp in the final easy...but only registered MKo members who visit the site daily voting...
Noob vs Scorpion is a huge grudge match...and I can see Scorpion losing...if Scorp loses to Noob then its anyones game, as Noob could conceivably lose to Ermac...and both could beat Sub-Zero.
