Kenshi was a great addition to the MK Universe...
......but I've been kickin' ass with Tsung since MK2 and he's the one who blinded that arrogant swordsman. So my vote goes to Tsung.

I vote for one of the all-time great villians of video games (not just MK), Shang Tsung.
Kenshi is ok but he can't compete with that.

I like Shang, but I don't love him. Likewise with Kenshi, so this one requires some thought.
Story wise, I think Shang Tsung lived past his potential a long time ago. Unfortunately though, Kenshi's story revolved around Shang, which means a new character is anchored to something which constantly needs new life being injected into it. As a Telekinetic Swordsman, Kenshi's got a lot of potential.
But, the only thing holding me back on this one is their powers. I like metamorphs who can impersonate others, and I like telekinetics. I just don't like it when multiple characters have the same power, hence why I'm not too fond of the fire-weilding characters in this series. In that regard, Shang Tsung is totally distinct. The trouble he could cause by impersonating and misleading the forces of light could be catastrophic. He's a slimy, shady, cunning type of character, but his powers give him the opportunity to be far more invasive and underhanded if he utilised them properly. He could really cause some trouble, and arguably be more of a threat to Earthrealm than Quan Chi or Shao Kahn himself, if only he played the system a bit better whilst "serving" an above power. He's dead now though so technically, he's gone from the franchise.
Kenshi? Again, I love Telekinetics. But when I think of Telekinesis, I think Ermac, even though his powers to me seem more along the lines of Psychokinesis/Mysticism/Sorcery than Kenshi's abilities. In my mind, Kenshi is the proper Telekinetic despite Ermac being famous for his Telekinetic powers. Unlike Shang who's powers make him distinctive, Kenshi's abilities are already shared with a character who's longer in the series than himself. Considering I'm not a fan of Ermac, I hate to say it but it does effect Kenshi in my eyes due to association. He could be so much more if there wasn't another psychic around, or at the very least if they were enemies. In technical terms, his fatalities in this game were better than Shang's, and his playstyle seems more to my tastes as well.
Having said all that, I think my vote comes down to Kenshi, but it was a hard vote and he really only wins due to the fact I prefer his Fatalities. Both seem like characters who are just floating around, not tapping in to their full potential. With a bit of direction, they could respectively be huge presences on both sides of the moral coin.

Shang Tsung's whole essence was imbued into Sindel. They are now one and it doesn't look like they have been parted from one another again. If they have, then Shang would be under Quan Chi's enthrallment as well. So that said, he and Jade have equal chances in returning, but again, this is not about Jade.
Should Shang Tsung return, then yes, Kenshi would then have the chance to get his revenge. But is that really something people want? Do people here really want Kenshi to be another revenge story? I would personally rather want him to evolve past it and NOT become another Scorpion tragedy.

Shang Tsung is one of my all time favorite characters. He was the final boss in one of the greatest games ever made, and I still remember being shocked by him turning in to other characters.
Then in MK2, I couldn't believe that you could actually use a boss character. It was something I hadn't really seen before and I loved it. Especially the Kintaro morph fatality, which is probably one of the best "F YOU!" taunts in all of gaming, basically telling your opponent that you can beat then with one button tied behind your back.
MK3... Eh. Underpants of doom. Movin on.
In MK:DA, he killed Liu Kang and helped kill Shao Khan. He got a cool new look and some depth to his styles. He was one of my most used characters in that game, for sure.
Unlike others, I actually really dug his style in MK2011. Yes, he's arguably one of the least accessible characters, but there's just something gratifying about juggling characters all over the screen. Not his best outing, but still a good one. I especially dig his ending.
Overall, he's been one of the best characters this series has ever seen. As much as I like Kenshi and as much as I think he's one of the best of the new generation, Shang Tsung's one of the best.
Voted for Shang Tsung.

Obligatory Fujin salute: T_T (You fought well. I guess...)
Oh well, gotta move on...
Voting for Kenshi. I like Shang's soul stealing and his MKDA/MKA primary costume and that's about it. Never liked him morphing into other characters and using their powers. Didn't like his looks in MK2 and MK3 and once again in MK2011. Plus, don't like the voice actor either and can't stand the clown fatality. Props for the unbreakable full-screen fireball combos and frametraps though, DetroitBalln rocks him pretty well.
I always liked Kenshi and I love what they did with his special moves in MK2011 and both of his fatalities are simply amazing! Also, he is refreshing to see, unlike Shang whom I've just gotten tired of.

UGH now begins where we keep voting all the stale old school never change boring characters through until its up to Scorpion and Subby. OOHHH FUN.
Fujin is WAY more interesting than Raiden who alone ruined the universe by getting almost everyone killed. What god with his powers sends such a crappy message back in time in an event to stop Armageddon? Raiden. In MK 10 Fujin needs to come on down and DETHRONE Raiden as the worst "guardian of earth" and be our god in MK going forward.
NOW we have Shang Tsung....honest I didn't like Shang until MKDA but then we also got Kenshi who I loved loved loved. So ultimately voted for Kenshi because he really kicks butt and is fun to play and has an AMAZING story!!

I wouldn't mind it if Kenshi got a revamped story, but I honestly don't want to take the risk.
I tried that with Scorpion in MK4, with Sub-Zero's ending. But it was Scorpion's ending that followed to the next game, which developed into another revenge story.

Cynicism migh protect you from disappointment when your expectations aren't met, but it also turns people into bitches and bastards (not the literal kinds, of course). I would rather get disappointed and keep my hopes than being a cynical prick.

You're not a cynical prick. You and I have the same kind of opinion for Kenshi. You want to see his story get revamped, but it's a risk that doesn't seem like it should be taken.
He's a character, in my opinion, that can either make it or break it if they change his story around.
To be honest, I have no idea how anyone can conclude people being cynical pricks when they don't want to take a chance with a character.

Not saying that you are, but saying that going down the path you are now with what you said about not daring to hope for Kenshi becoming something more can potentially turn you into one. If that made any sense.
I would rather take the risk and maybe end up getting disappointed than just lying dormant and not wanting to feel anything in fear of my expectations not being met.

It should be pretty obvious by now The winners of Round 2: Ermac,Smoke,Liu Kang,Goro,Kung Lao,Scorpion
The only real tossup is Kano vs Sonya.

I'm not going to become a prick, refusing to take a chance with a character won't harden me, in fact it helps.
By not taking a chance, I won't be bothered either way with what happens. If Kenshi does get revamped, that's cool, but if he doesn't, it's cool, because it is what I was expecting. Therefore, I'll just move on.
That's what I'm doing with Kenshi. I'm leaving him alone storywise. I'm treating him like Tekken characters.

Cynical - Believing that people are motivated by self-interest; distrustful of human sincerity or integrity. or Doubtful as to whether something will happen or is worthwhile.
You're more or less calling him a prick than a cynical person, if anything. For a person to choose who they want to care about shouldn't warrant them a title of "being a prick." That just sounds plain rude.
I'm just saying this because I don't see why he needs to be told he's acting like a "cynical prick" for how he cares about some fictional character, or coming close to acting like one.
