It would take an almost painfully uncreative mind to not find something for Scorpion to do.

Relax, he's not going anywhere.

François Hollande in fact just recently won Nicholas Sarkozy from getting to his second term during this EU financial crisis partially because so many people voted against Sarkozy instead of actually supporting Hollande. It's possible even in the national presidency competitions (Vladimir Putin's 3rd term aside). The winner's what matters in the end?

[The adorablé EU big deal Hollande showing le Frenchness.]

Scorpion is here to stay (Ed) but someone's got to support old Molly too.

It would be hipster to vote for Scorpion, as he was around first and is one of the original first characters of the first game.

Hipster attitude: The original is the better.

Example:

"The first Mortal Kombat is better than its sequals and the original cast of the first MK are better characters than any of the newer characters."

Basically, those who praise the first few MK games (like MK2) and who hates on the newer games are more or less hipsters.

No, the hipster mentality would be to choose the less mainstream. Moloch is least popular. There you go.

I'm not voting for Moloch out of being a hipster, to avoid misconceptions...
Urban Dictionary Tells:
Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter. [...] Although "hipsterism" is really a state of mind,it is also often intertwined with distinct fashion sensibilities. [...] Despite misconceptions based on their aesthetic tastes, hipsters tend to be well educated and often have liberal arts degrees, or degrees in maths and sciences, which also require certain creative analytical thinking abilities. This is not about hipsters, whatever that is.

For me, Scorpion could have been put up against Taven, and I still would have voted against him. Scorpion, a character who has had little to do with the MK story since MK3 came out, has been continuously plastered in the light as if he actually has a purpose. Someone else could be up there, a character who could really use some promotion, a character who deserves promotion.

But if it means anything, when it comes to the lack of story, I feel the same way about Jax and Liu Kang, only not as much.

It has become mainstream to be hipster, so it is rather contradictory to say that all a hipster is about is to go against the mainstream.

The definition I have of a hipster is one explained to me by people who are actual hipsters. However, my example above is just one thing about being a hipster, not necessarily the epitome of what a hipster is all about. It is true many of them aren't particularly fond of what is considered mainstream, but that's not what is making them hipster - it is just part of what they represent.

It might just be those I have spoken to who share this notion, but to them it is important to look into the originals and the classics rather than following what is popular here and now. Since they are gamers as well, they simply prefer the original games that started it all rather than what is new and shiny. They are also very fond of indie-games since indie-game developers are doing their best to be original and innovative in the gaming world, where as games like Call of Duty, God of War etc. are being made without much originality, but rather take gameplay elements of more original games and are then being spat out by game developers as a way to make money.

If an indie-game becomes mainstream, it doesn't necessarily becomes the aim of hatred by hipsters. MineCraft is an excellent example of this.

This was a detour from the main topic though, just thought I would share my reason for making a statement about hipsters the way I did.

As for Scorpion... I have just never really liked him. Not even back in the early MK days. Cool, he could throw a kunai with a rope on it and teleport to the back of his opponent with a punch... Yippee (imagine this being said in a VERY un-enthusiastic way)... I have always liked ninjas, but Scorpion was never a ninja in my eyes. His lack of stealth, shouting at his opponents, his fits of rage and lack of self-control... there's nothing ninja about it. And I have always thought it was stupid to call him a ninja or associate him with ninjas at all.

He might be mainstream and the front figure of MK, but that is not why I dislike him. I do think it is stupid that he is just that, but that's because I already dislike him. I would still dislike him no matter how popular he is, even if no one liked him, I would still dislike him. His character is simply not my cup of tea and I do prefer Moloch over Scorpion, because to me Moloch makes more sense.

Moloch is a demon of the Netherrealm, a specific kind called an Oni and he has earned his title as The Tormentor due to him tormenting the unfortunate souls of the dead that crosses his path. He is a huge lunk of a monkey-like monster with a huge ball in a chain attached to his arm. His character makes sense! I have always wanted for him to become Drahmin's bodyguard of sorts while should Drahmin embrace his character description better as a once great warlord who is fallen and turned into this sadistic demonic being of the Netherrealm. Their potential to turn into these characters at some point earns them some points in my favour, while Scorpion has shown that the potential he might have had once has been proven to us again and again that he will never come to embrace, because he is stuck in a repetative runt and is all about his fixation on revenge. Some might like that (obviously), I am just not one of them.

It does seem like at times that there are fans of Scorpion BECAUSE he is the front figure, BECAUSE he is easily recognizable and BECAUSE he's already having a huge fanbase. If all the focus would be removed from Scorpion and put into other characters, I am convinced that the Scorpion fanbase will be thinned out.

That's crap, the whole "you're a hipster if you don't vote for the more conventionally popular character".

Ehm, no. I'm only speaking for myself here but I've more reasons to dislike Scorpion than I have to dislike Moloch. He's been around a lot longer than Moloch and has still accomplished nothing as a character, which in itself pisses me off considering Sub-Zero's character is just as old and yet in the old canon he accomplished so much. Even Noob Saibot, Kitana and Mileena accomplished more despite not being "the faces of MK".

I'm not going to vote for a character who I've grown less and less impressed with over the years just because Moloch's not that impressive either. I could care less for Moloch, but Scorpion irritates me. If that's what it boils down to in a vote of prefference, well then that technically means I prefer Moloch.

It's a no brainer for me, to me it's logical. How would that make me Hipster?

He does indeed look cuddly-wuddly in his MKA VS pose. He just wants to play with his ball. ^^

Why is this such a big issue? So Scorpion is a popular character amongst Mortal Kombat fans. We all know he's not going to lose this round, might as well just let it be.

Never said you did, I was just stating that it is unrelated, especially considering that those of us who are voting against Scorpion aren't necessarily voting for Moloch, even though he is pretty cool.

As I've stated before, Scorpion could have been matched up against anyone, and I still would've voted against him.

No, it's hipster to vote for Moloch because he's lame and a boring sub-boss and Scorpion is super popular.

Scorpion's story may be redundant, but he's fuckin' awesome regardless. He far from my favorite character. I don't even care for him that much... but I have to give credit where credit is due.

"Get over here!" Is one of the most recognizable lines in video game history. He pioneered several types of attacks and was one of fighting games' first ninjas. The dude has all sorts of badassery around him, you're just looking for it in the wrong places.

There is an array of characters I would choose over Scorpion, many of which were conceived years after him. But someone as boring and insignificant as Moloch? Not a chance.

Canon states he was defeated by Moloch. You know, that big lumbersome character in which you're all stating is useless and boring? Dude lost out to him. Moloch, and a rotting corpse, both handed Scorpion his ass.

Wow. Go Scorpion. Full of win right there.

I honestly don't see the bad-assery. The only time I ever considered Scorpion cool was in MK1 and MK2 (back when it was early days and he still seemed promising) and MK:DA (in which I liked his costumes, fatality, hellfire kick and his gameplay). I want to like him, I really do, but he's just become so damn useless and repetitive that I honestly can't see the appeal. I mean technically, he's accomplished just about as much in his lifetime as Reptile or Kano has. Even Rain, Noob Saibot and Ermac have gone on to become better characters than him despite not having half as much promotion or game appearances.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Moloch either. I'd just prefer to see the back of Scorpion as soon as possible.
