Moloch.

Scorpion.

Moloch is one of my least favorite characters in the series and I dislike him. While Scorpion annoys me, I don't dislike him.

Ehm, no, that's not my reason.

I voted him down because since he emerged it's basically been this.


MK1 Scorpion: "Sub-Zero killed me, now I will have my revenge! REVENGE!"

MK2 Scorpion: "Oh, that guy I killed is rumoured to be back despite me killing him! I MUST HAVE MY REVENGE! Turns out it's his little brother, so I'll leave him alone"

MK3 Scorpion: "Oh, Khan's using the Nether Realm's forces to take over Earth, but I've just spotted that younger Sub-Zero with the good guys, so I'm not getting involved anymore".

MK4 Scorpion: "Quan Chi has offered me life if I serve him, and I can avenge my fallen clan which the Lin Kuei killed (or so he says!). But wait, hold on, it was Quan Chi! (curse him!)... REVENGE!"

MK:DA Scorpion: "I must chase Quan Chi and kill him, and have my REVENGE! Oh no, wait, hold on, two underdeveloped characters just caught hold of me and hurled me into the Soulnado. That revenge will have to wait"

MK:D Scorpion: "So the last 5 games and story arc has led to nothing, really, now that Quan's dead and I've no reason to hate Sub-Zero. Bummer. But the Dragon King is back (grr to a villain I've never had interactions with!!) and the Elder Gods want to make me their champion to stop him, so off I go!"

MK:A Scorpion: "Those pesky Gods promised to revive my clan, something you're only hearing about now that I've nothing else to do in terms of story. But wait, they've been revived as undead! I know what I'll do! I'll Troll their only attempt to completely salvaging and saving all of reality by actively going out of my way to disturb their plans. REVENGE!!"

MK9 Scorpion: "So I'm in this tournament serving Quan Chi, and I want to kill Bi Han for murdering my family and clan. REVENGE!! But Raiden tells me not to because he'll revive my clan (this sounds familiar?), so I don't, until Quan Chi tricks me and I want REVENGE again! So I kill Sub-Zero, vanish, do nothing of interest until his little brother challenges me in the next tournament, lose, then vanish again. Oh and that invasion? This time I do nothing! In fact I just kinda chill out in the Nether Realm until Raiden wants to see Quan Chi, then I get my ass handed to me, and that's it! But at least I got my REVENGE!"

He's quite simply the most over rated, over hyped and stalest thug in a line up of thugs. He's nothing more than a henchman who had the potential to be something tragic, haunting and interesting, a man who lost it all and sought redemption and peace of mind. What is he now? A broken record with nothing to show for his character in over 20 years.

In mk:deadly alliance moloch and drahmin are good friends, back then they got their asses kicked by the hell spawn scorpion. so i vote for scorpion and he is my favorite character as well.

Scorpion is my least favourite character of Mortal Kombat.

So I vote Moloch. I like the Oni, he's a huge monkey-troll with a big chained iron ball which he uses to smash everyone around him. Kinda like a demonic Huk. :P He was the next best subboss, Goro being the best.

There aren't many characters in MK who've had the benefit of a consistent, decisively forward moving serial plot. Scorpion is one of the few. I'm not sure condemning the character on the basis of his story is necessarily the strongest way to place him below the rest of the cast.

Funny how you only comment on something like this when people are talking about Scorpion. There have been discussions like these about other characters as well where you did not bring up a point like this. I can tell from your sig that you might have a soft spot for the hellish ninja spectre, but people are using the same reasons for not liking Scorpion as other people do for any other character.

What their opinion is about a character, be it Scorpion or not, is their own and they can decide to vote for or against any character for whatever reason they want, right?

If people wish to condemn Scorpion for his story, then that's their decision. Whatever reason they might put up, they will vote against Scorpion none the less. As have I.

i voted for scorpion. he's the most iconic character in the series and he's my 2nd favorite mk character of all time.

He's just repetitive. Vengeance is the only thing he's ever aspired for in the story, something he should have gotten over years ago. You know what would have been cool for him? Slaying an innocent in his quest for revenge, and having to cope with that on his conscience: that he became so blinded with rage and hate that it resulted in his hands getting too dirty to ever clean again.


Hell, actually giving him any degree of a conscience would be cool, just to see him lament or mourn for the family that apparently inspired all of this in the first place. I think his problem more so than any other character who's been stuck in stalemate *cough KanoReptileSheevaNightwolfSindel cough* is that Scorpion could easily be the most tragic character in the series, and definetly the most haunting, if the devs just got the fuck over this whole "Vengeance!! Sub-Zero!! Quan Chi!!" crap and actually explored his emotional pain and fleshed it out rather than paint him out to be a senseless, illogical and obsessive fool who plays lackey constantly.

He's all show and no substance despite having the capacity to actually be as legendary as people make him out to be. He's iconic for nothing more than throwing a kunai on a rope and breathing out fire.

First off, let me say that Scorpion is not the only character I've grown tired of, he's just the one I'm most tired of.

For me, the monotony lies in his so very much played out revenge story. For 20 freakin' years, that's all he's been about. First he wanted revenge against Sub-Zero, then Quan Chi, then the Elder Gods. Also, he has gotten quite boring to play with, for me at least, since UMK3, which was the last time I ever played as him. It wasn't until MK2011 that his style was even slightly interesting. Despite all this, he's glorified as the face of MK, and that irks the hell out of me.

You'd think that with Scorpion being Boon's favorite character, he'd receive better development, at least storywise.

In my most honest opinion, I'd be willing to give Scorpion a chance if the revenge story ends and he moves on, but I'd much rather he'd rest with his family. Besides, I cannot for the life of me think of anything Scorpion could do outside the revenge story.

So he's commenting on a character he likes. So what?

Voting against a significant character because they're popular (or... consistent) isn't particularly in the spirit of the contest, but you'll note nobody has been told not to do it, no matter how inane their point. I think it would be nice if people could find genuine reasons for supporting Moloch, rather than dubious rebellion, though.

I didn't choose my staff signature (not that it matters), but posting about Jarek was actually part of the grand conspiracy. I can't reply to every post in this thread, I'm busy rigging the contest night and day (duh).

Or for those complaining about Scorpion's story....what the hell has Moloch of all people ever accomplished? Oh right...him and Drahmin threw Scorpion in the soulnado. Their whole significance (if you can call it that) is tied to SCORPION. Ha.

The hell it isn't!

I'm not a fan of Quan Chi because he steps on people's stomachs. I didn't gain a respect for Ermac because he likes throws green balls. I don't hate Liu Kang because his special moves suck. His special moves are AWESOME.

Story is a big thing for me when it comes to MK. It's the number one reason I've been with the franchise all this time. I thrive on wanting to know what happens next, and I'm sure every MK fan does.

Scorpion has lost his place in MK a long time ago. His stale and repetitive story shows it. There is no reason for him to continue being around, he's just taking up space.

I actually like that Scorpion is the embodiment of revenge. I like characters who are obsessed with revenge. Like Scorpion, Kratos, and Asura.

To me Scorpion is the epitome of wrath, the meaning of revenge. His story is consistent, his purpose unchanged. I like that.
