In response to the stuff about Jarek.....

I dont particularly like Jarek, as such, but I dont dislike him either really, which means that if there was a list of how I rank the characters he would be above a fair few. He was a total Kano rip off in MK4, which was a shame, as I quite liked his look and that they were introducing another Black Dragon character. but his story and moves reall let him down. In MKA, again, good concept with him trying to perfect the art of killing, but him becoming jsut another hitman for the resident bad guy was a bit of a step back, and he never got a chance to develop. So there is definitley potential there. His look in MKA I actually quite like, despite it being pretty random. Also liked the axe weapon on choice.

In this round, Im voting for Kano.

I never really bothered about Kano much till MKDA. I didnt like his MK3 look, but thought he had decent fatalities and moves. his story kind of lacked substance till that point tho and he kind of only seemed to exist to give Sonya a reason to be around. But in MKDA, he kind of came into his own. Kano is a real opportunist and it was shown with his switching sides, snitching on Sheeva to Kahn and getting her killed to further his 'career' and pretty much walking all over everyone and anyone. (I have kind of criticised others for doing this switiching from bad guy to bad and betraying everyone, but Kano is kind of where this originated from so its deep within his core character). I really liked his designs in MKDA, MKDC and MK9, and think they got his personality spot on in the recent game. I also like how they have kept the rivalry with Sonya more as a sidenote or undertone for Kano rather than having it being prominent. Also, well done to the MK team for making Kano more like Trevor Goddard's portrayal of him from the first MK movie. He was awesome as Kano.

Kira is a bit bland. She was really just created because people seem to want a female version of each type of character, and she was the female black dragon. She didnt get much chance to shine though, so perhaps a return wouldnt be the worst thing. She definitely needs her own moves and complete storyline overhaul/expansion IMO. In some ways, I dont know why they didnt bother just making Jola from MKConquest TV series into an actual character, instead of the mish-mash taht was Kira.

As far as Kano goes, I really think that they've dropped the ball with him over the years. They kept going with the Kano/Sonya feud and it never amounted to anything. He basically became a lackey for everyone that was in power at the time and given his original look, his style, and the overall uniqueness of his character, they could've done so much more. He could be so much more than what he is story-wise.

One thing I've really liked about Kano is that being the middle man for evil is his purpose in MK. He doesn't have to become all great and powerful, or even have a pressing role. His inclusions are small, but significant. His purpose is providing the "boss" with what they can't get on their own, making their plans possible. Nothing more is needed, imho.

I kinda see Havik the same way, being small but significant. I see him as being MK's official sewer of discord, causing small problems that eventually affect the big one.

To me Kano, like Havik, isn't a villain, just someone who does whatever to get what he wants. Don't get me wrong, he's bad, but he certainly isn't evil.

I voted for Kira. I thought that introducing a protoge would be the best way to retire Kano, and keep fans of his gameplay pleased. I'm tired of the Kano/ Sonya thing, and I saw Kira as a shiny beacon of the end of it. Unfortunately I was wrong. Kira wasn't done very well, but I still had hope for her. And years later, Soulcalibur V showed me that I was wrong again. Clone characters are the worst. But a terrible clone is still somehow better than Kano in my eyes.

I like that aspect about Kano as well. Sure, he's a thug, but there could be shades of gray with him, especially given that he serves his own self interest first. I just think that what they've had him doing with the Kano/Sonya/special forces feud for several games has done nothing for his character. If they weren't going to permanently kill either one of them, then why continue with it?

It would've been nice to have seen Kano somehow screw over one of those evil villains simply because it served his purpose to do so. Or perhaps even side with the good guys for a while, making him and Sonya actually work together and trust one another without killing each other...

I know, that's not horribly original, but the uniqueness of his character allows for him to potentially do a lot of stuff that most other straight up evil characters probably couldn't get away with. The fact that they haven't taken advantage of that potential is kind of annoying to me. Whoever thought of that whole "Kano's brain in cyberspace" ending stuff between him and Jax again, REALLY dropped the ball with this character as far as I'm concerned.

So much more they could do with him, and the fact that so many MK fans are sick of Kano Vs Sonya and the Black Dragon side story as a whole tells me that they're not using both Kano and his organization to their fullest creative potential.

Yeah, Soulcalibur has always been clone happy.

Kira was pretty much a Kano knockoff, but she still was kinda fun to play with. I don't think Kira should replace Kano completely, just in the Black Dragon. I'm not exactly sure, however, how I see her becoming a member with Kabal dead. Maybe Jarek will prosper in the clan and be the one who discovers her.

i would say kira defeats kano.
never was a fan of either kano or sonya but kira had the iconic moves from both , i say kira could be done so much better and so much more in depth if giving the chance.

Originally conceived as a new design for his Round 1 opponent -- Havik is a constant representative of the other, an agent of chaos! Is he friend, nemesis, mentor, or stooge to the warriors he encounters? Perhaps all of the above! For Noob Saibot, he's an obstacle and an inspiration for new acts of treachery. Only one can win! Or can they?

This time, I have no idea who to pick.

I absolutely love Havik. He's the best character to come out of Deception. I love his "chaos for the sake of chaos" mentality. I also love his super creepy contortion moves.

Still, I also absolutely love Noon Saibot, whom I somehow knew was Sub-Zero's brother long before Deception. I can't figure out how I knew, though. Anyhoo, I've been a Noon Saibot fan since UMK3, when I saw him create that dark cloud. To me, that was the coolest move in the game. I also loved how unusually fast he was in the game. As the series progressed, he became cooler and cooler.

Now, I don't know who to choose...

Havik is one of my favourite characters, He was the best new character in Deception, and my favourite 3D era character. I think he REALLY should have been in MK9 along side Kenshi as DLC.

Alas, he is up against Noob Saibot and if he keeps about 20% of the vote I'l be happy, I really hope Havik makes MK10 and I think he will because I think he has a big fanbase comparable to many 2D era fans.

Down but not out, HAVIK FOR MK10! (I actually hope something comes out of Noobs ending, because that would be a deadly alliance)

For me, Havik is probably the most polarizing character that the MK team has ever created.

On one hand, I love the look. I think it's awesome and had they given Noob that look, I would've loved it.

I also like the idea of a character that just wants chaos (even if "cleric of choas" soundsl ike a bad WWE nickname for the Undertaker) They made him this complete wildcard, which in theory, seems pretty cool. The whole "just wanting to watch the world burn" thing is great. In practice, he just seems like MK's answer to trolling.

Plus, and I might be in the minority on this, but while I love the idea of order versus chaos, I hate that it's played out in such a ham-fisted, over the top, on the nose manner. Having "Chaosrealm" and "Orderrealm" has always felt beyond stupid to me. Why not just call Earth "Goodrealm" and Outworld "Evilrealm" while you're at it?

It was again, a great idea, just poorly executed thanks to bad writing and mostly poor character concepts that came together to form arguably my least favorite plotline that MK has ever created.

Add that to the fact that I despise his special moves, which feel more like they were meant to be funny than anything else, and Havik (also not a fan of the Limp Bizkit era name misspelling) is actually my least favorite 3D era MK combatant.

Yes, worse than Hsu Hao. Why? Because Hsu Hao looked stupid and seemed like a lost cause from the begining. Havik looks freakin awesome, and then they went and completely messed him up.

Noob. A thousand times Noob. Sub Zero's brother, a former hidden character, the cloud, the cool concept of making two characters in to one (okay, so I would've preferred they be seperate, but they at least tried something different)...

They've done stuff with this guy and they've made him a legit threat, a real wildcard becuse he's unpredictable and out for himself (while seemingly serving others at time) and he's evolved over time. I don't know how Havik could really evolve if he's just built around the idea of chaos.

So yeah, I voted for Noob. I don't get what Havik fans love the guy for so much beyond "he like's chaos," but then again, I've never really seen it, so I guess that's on me.

Havik.

Great specials, fatalities, and story. I love how he opposed order, but eventually fell into it and became the most revered Cleric or Chaos. One of the best MKD characters, but I'd rank him 4th or 5th out of all of them. (Kira, Hotaru, Darrius, Ashrah come first for me.)

I think that Noob actually deserves the spot, I mean he's one force to wreckon with, I mean he's evolved so much, and after the masterpiece they made out of him in MK9, wow, hands down he deserves it. That doesn't mean Havik wasn't the best addition to MKD. I think we also have Boon and friends to thank for listening 100% to what they should do with his character in MK9.

For me, it's not simply his love for chaos, but he is chaotic beyond the realm of good and evil.

He doesn't do anything for the sake of anyone, not even himself. He simply does whatever defies the order of his environment.

An interesting approach to his being is his initial story in Deception. He chose to fight against Onaga (presumably the bad guy) because Onaga's success would erase the all the chaos in existence, much to Havik's disgust. Despite his seemingly bad guy behavior, it was that behavior that led him to virtually fight on the side of good. Ironically, it was also his behavior that led to him convincing Kabal to be evil again.
