The one thing this round is telling me is that both these ladies need to make a return appearance soon so they can have proper gameplay and story development.

There have been stories of ashrah just look at all the religious frsakbags strting crusades because they were told by God to kill any non conformists. Seeing as ashrah is on a purge of people she views as demons they are relatable. The only difference is I like ashrah lol < not as much as nitara ;) >

I can't believe Nitara is winning. Her design is so boring. Ashrah's one of the best New characters they've made. And she actually didn't look ugly in MKD/MKA.

Tricky choice. I like both equally, both were among the better new characters of the era, and both need some work done to make them truly great. And I'd certainly like to see both come back one day.

No real preference for either over the other, but I'll choose Ashrah so the gap isn't so wide.

Both characters are oozing with potential. I would love to see Asrah redesigned to look much darker and given better specials. She would be really cool if she was mildly ghostly, with maybe a shroud over her face.

Nitara got my vote though, she's just more badass as of now. Still needs a revamp(pun), though.

But now going serious, i don't know why people dislike Kai. I always thought he was one of the few MK4 charachters that was good, he had a cool look, and a pretty unique moveset wih the up and down fireball, and was the first MK charachter to have a stance. I know he sucked in MKA, but if they could make him in this engine while keeping him similar to MK4 he would rock!
Edit: It's not that i don't like Kung Lao. I would have probably voted for him before mk9 was released, but i really think they ruined his look
and personality in this game. He was better in MKDA.

Kung Lao is just a Liu Kang rip off - a totally dull character, I'd rather vote for Kai!

Another kind of tough one. Kung Lao has been one of my favorites for a long time and I've always preferred him to Liu Kang as the go to White Lotus monk. But I like Kai a lot as well. He's another one of those characters that shouldn't have been dropped from the MK4 and been expanded upon in MKDA.

Unfortunately Kai is really generic. As far as gameplay goes he suffers from the same problem as Tanya and Kobra. No one cares about generic fire especially with Liu and Shang already doing cool things with it.

Kung Lao at least has a lot of personality in his moves and style, now if NRS would get rid of that cocky douche attitude he got in MKSM and kept for subsequent appearances he'd be all good.

This is a tough choice for me to make.

Kung Lao is cool and original, a warrior monk using his hat as a razorblade, his moves are awesome and I generally love his gameplay...
... or rather, used to. Since everyone and their mothers use him online and repeat the same combos over and over again, spamming moves with him and sucking out all the fun of playing for a casual fighter like me, I admit I have lost respect for Kung Lao. Not him as a character, because clearly it's not his fault, but that NRS made him so easy to spam with. I want to say he's broken, but I'm not nearly the expert to state something like that. My point with this is that by looking at Kung Lao, I get annoyed at the players who use him like that and I can't seem to cut that connection. Poor Kung Lao, suffering from people abusing him like that.
Also, Kung Lao has only had two outfits I like throughout the series which are his MK3-MKG outfit and his alternate MKDA/main MKA outfit. I really don't like any of his other outfits, though his newest main outfit is remniscent to his MKDA-MKA outfit, it just doesn't have the same feel or flair to it. Like Mileena's newest alternate outfit looks like her main MKD-MKA outfit, it just doesn't feel like the same outfit and isn't on par with the original design.
And last, Kung Lao's storyline is boring like hell! He's always been the Ken to Liu Kang's Ryu, a less interesting version of the main hero (and the main hero is already very boring)... No, let me rephrase that. Ken is more interesting than Ryu, because Ryu is the utmost boring fighting game character I have ever seen. That was a bad comparison, but you get my point. Even when Kung Lao had the chance to be something more than Liu Kang's shadow in MKDA where Liu Kang gets killed, Kung Lao's story suddenly becomes ALL about Liu Kang. I hated that.
One last thing is that Kung Lao looks old in the newest MK which looks totally off.

Kai has only been in two games and neither of the two are very good. I loved MK4, but it is still one of the weaker games of the series. I love MKA, but it is definately THE weakest game of the series. Especially for Kai.
Kai had a good start, an apprentice who wants to prove his worth, nothing original or anything, but his looks and his moves clearly made up for that. He had some pretty interesting moves, my favourite being the handstand helicopter kick, but also the upwards and downwards fireballs were quite cool. He was definately one of the more fun characters to play in MK4-MKG and he had so much potential which could have been explored... but like many other MK4 characters, he never did. His return in MKA was weak, he didn't look like himself, though I do dig his new hairstyle in MKA. However, his outfit looked absolutely ridiculous and I only use his alternate outfit which is his MK4 one. The worst thing that happened to him was that they removed the helicopter kick move! Not to mention Ashrah had been given his upwards fireball move. He really didn't have alot going on for him in MKA which is such a disappointment, HOWEVER, I really hope he returns in the next game and that he shines in it! And I sincerely hope he has his helicopter kick back! MAKE IT HAPPEN, NRS!!! I love you guys, but return that love by giving Kai along with the other MK4 characters some love as well.

In the end, I choose Kai.
Because he also got something else going on for him which is his skin colour. He's the second black/coloured man to be introduced into the series (before it was revealed Cyrax was black too) and he is in no way a stereotype at all. While Jax wears the stereotype and makes it look awesome, Kai is the perfect character to show how it can also be done and in a more original way. He gains plus points for that.

Ashrah looks like MK1 Raiden with breasts. That's boring.
Anyway, I voted for Kai because I hate the pompous asshole direction they went with Kung Lao. A monk so full of arrogance makes no sense, and doesn't make me like him at all.

I like Kai, Since Earth is kinda short on heros at the moment if he doesnt make it into MK10 I'm going to wreck the place.

But I'm voting for the Lao as his gameplay is awesome, I liked his story from MKG-DA and I love his cockiness in MK9, his death was one of the few that actually meant something.

Yikes, can't believe Kai has any votes in this one, let alone 30%. Seriously, Kung Lao is the epitome of badass.

I think it really described Kung Lao really well (before MK9, maybe even MKA). And it was such a compassionate thing to do to honor his fallen comrade.

And now I bet if Kung Lao survived until the end in MK9, he wouldn't really care that his friend died, it just means "More Spotlight for me!"

I think I'm going to vote for Kai this time around. Not because I like him, but I can't stand Kung Lao's arrogance (That's Rain's job!) I always expected him to be modest and be, in Sheeva terms, "honorable."

And come on you've got to admit, he was a pretty good looking guy in MKDA.



He was unselfish, and the way he didn't want to talk about Liu Kang's death to Sonya, you could tell he really cared about his friend that it hurt him. I really did like this Kung Lao a lot, but they changed him, much like they did certain characters in MK9 *stares at Mileena* oh well...

Like many, I too am disappointed with the arrogant version of Kung Lao. However, that minus aside, everything else about him is brilliant. Easily one the most stylish characters in the franchise. Love the trademark hat, love the character design, fantastic gameplay (MK2011 and MKSM especially), funny and entertaining gibberish and finally his Razor's Edge fatality is my all time favorite fatality in the series. His win poses are great too! Oh, and I love it when the shiny edge of his hat hides his eyes, BADASS!

While I like Kai, especially his MK4 version, Kung Lao is simply on another level.

So yeah, my choice is Kung Lao, the first ever Mortal Kombat Evo Champion (played by Carl "Perfect Legend" White)!
