I like Subbie (Kuai Liang), but not Scorpion. Here's why:
Sub-Zero's storyline is well-developed and it evolves throughout the series.
Scorpion's storyline is basically the same over and over again.
Sub-Zero's newest outfit has elements to show his Chinese ancestry and indicates that he is a warrior of a Chinese clan.
Scorpion look like a cheesy comic-book villain with the overused scorpion theme and those "flames" on his clothes does nothing for him.
Sub-Zero turning into a cyborg was an interesting change and I do like him as a cyborg, he looks cool and it was a nice twist to him, seeing as he fought so hard against it in the old timeline.
Scorpion's storyline hasn't changed one bit other than proving he is just Quan Chi's bitch slave.
They are both iconic characters, they are the original palette-swaps, so them looking like one another is something I am cool with though I would prefer that they didn't look alike. With Cyber Subbie this has changed though, so that's another plus.
Sub-Zero wields the element of ice which is one of my favourite elements.
Scorpion uses the element of fire which is overused and boring.
I like blue.
I don't like yellow.
Sub-Zero personality as this calm and collective warrior fits him well. Even when he is actually seeking revenge on Scorpion for killing his older brother, he is still rather calm about it.
Scorpion is this raging asshole who has let his quest for revenge consume him which makes him easy to manipulate, and that is exactly what Quan Chi does.
Sub-Zero's new fighting style fits him well, being a bit slower than usual, but more powerful, something that is complimentary to his element of ice as well. You can make some fun setups and cool combos with him.
Scorpion is boring to use, easy to spam with and is the character to go to if you are a newbie, kinda like the Ryu of MK. It takes little to no intelligence to pull off his moves. There is one GOOD thing about his gameplay though and that's his swordplay combo which he ends with the backflip kick, I quite like that.
Sub-Zero is involved with many different characters in interesting ways, such as Smoke, Sektor, Cyrax, Sareena, all of the good guys more or less.
Scorpion is involved with Subbie and Quan Chi... that's about it.
Now, with all this said, they are both being shoved down our throats as the faces of MK. Everything MK has those two on it and kinda ignores everyone else, with a very few exceptions. Some like it, I imagine the fans of the two are thrilled to see so much of them all the time, however, I do not like it. There are other and alot more interesting characters in the roster that would be cool to see more of.
Please take note that all of this is just MY opinion.

Voted Sub. I'm not a fan of him really, I just don't have any interest in the female cast in this game aside from Sheeva. Kitana is fucking boring. I'm just waiting until Nitara returns.

Same here. I think Nitara has room to expand.

Sheesh, the guy is trying to talk Smoke down in fear of Sub-Zero's demise. People state that Smoke will win this but I'm afraid you're going to be wrong with that line. Tomas Vrbada sure is popular – in Mortal Kombat Online. He's got fans everywhere but as far as I'm concerned the biggest Smoke fans can be found from the MKOmmunity although during debates they are often divided in three factions. I wasn't surprised you brought the "appearance" card here when Sub-Zero happens to be the only character who has appeared in each fighting game, the only character with a game with his name and his face is in the front page of two huge MK fans sites also known as TYM and MKO. Now that I think about it; maybe you're right.
Maybe the appearances mean everything. We followed Shujinko in Mortal Kombat: Deception from his youth until elderhood, so many hours that we got sick of him, thus maybe we should replace Subby with Jinko because it would only be a transition between the Lin Kuei! Honestly though, Sub-Zero is a really cool character and I'm not disliking him but you shouldn't diss Smoke either. Remember from what occasion you got that scar after all, Scar_Subby. Not being rude though, but just saying. I'm voting for Sub-Zero in this one even though Kitana is awesome too, but I'll keep on supporting Smoke until the end for loyalty while maintaining reason too.
(I'm cool if Sub-Zero will win this – talk about being predictable though! – but Subby can't forget his pal Smoke. Thus, let us all vote for Smoke.)
I wish it would have been Sub-Zero VS Sonya Blade, that would have been a more interesting and less predictable match up, imo. Sonya would have actually stood in battle.
A few notes:
1) This whole character competition idea is awesome. Good job to Mick and the rest of the MKO staff for coming up with it.
2) Noob VS Sonya was fun. She did very well against him considering he's such a major powerhouse and his sudden popularity + his victory against the ever so controversial Scorpion. This match could have gone either way really.
3) Just by reading the posts I can tell that Johnny VS Jade was, do doubt, one of the coolest (if not the most interesting) of the match ups. While I completely support Johnny, I still think Jade did a good job.
Part of me wishes she would have also faced Kitana because that would have been a fun match. I have no doubt Jade would have won judging by all the comments about Kitana's MK9 appearance.
To be honest, I'm not surprised Kitana did so badly against the likes of Shao Kahn and Rain. I think "the Kitana before MK9+MKvsDC" would have won those battles with a wider margin of votes. These last 2 games have really done her no justice.
4) Concerning the whole debate/discussion/rage about Sub-Zero and Scorpion being overrated and how badly they have both been slammed by soooo many fans I say: Well done! I agree with most of those comments (I said most comments, not all of them).
5) I like Smoke in this game...that being said, I am extremely shocked he defeated his competition. I expected Cyrax and Sektor to easily take the lead. Congrats Smoke fans! I still think the other two are much much better.
6) It sucks that no more females are standing because of the organization.
7) Regarding the whole "not a ninja/ninja" debate I say: whatever. Both sides have strong points.
8)Finally, I wish there would have been a more balanced order to the whole competition. I'm not sure how it was decided who faced who in this game, but, the arrangement/order made this quite a predictable game. The results were mostly predictable (with just a few exceptions).
I'm with those who will find it extremely boring if the final match ends up being Subby VS Noob. Just my opinion so don't bite my head off.
Back to work now!

Ha, that's crazy, because I'm just the opposite. I only used his alt in MK:D.
However, to be honest, I'm pretty sure that more people agree with you on that one though.
oh the irony, my two favorite characters going at it. Subby is incredible, I absolutely love this dude (although his gameplay was too slow in MK9), but at the same time, I fucking Love my girl KITANA.
In the end, my vote goes to the Edenian Goddess. I feel like NRS disrespected her legacy in MK9. What they did to her story was hard to watch. Kitana has never really been the poster girl for MK, other females have been given that role (Sonya and Mileena). Against all odds, the princess has developed a powerful fanbase. Kitana has the strongest fanbase than any other MK female, sorry Sonya. NRS need to open their eyes and see that they can go far with this chick.
Kitana's story is arguably one of the most important to the entire MK series. Out of all the kombatants in MK, Kitana was the one with the strongest reasons to defeat Shao Kahn. She should have been the one to decapitate Kahn in MK9.
I feel like it is time for MK to have a new champion, a female champion. Kitana should be the next MK champion. Without much spotlight, the princess has become the most iconic MK female. Just imagine if NRS actually put her in the spotlight?
WATCH THIS MK9 EPIC TRAILER AGAIN!
Sometimes I don't understand how NRS think. Why the hell is Jax fighting Mileena?! It should have been my girl Kitana pounding on the hoe. Little things like these are what NRS have been doing with Kitana all this time. They need to open their eyes.
Mortal Kombat Legacy is doing an amazing job on portraying the legendary tale of the Edenian Princess. I'm hoping that Kevin Tancharoen had the same vision I have when he wrote the script. I'm hoping his version of MK has Shao Kahn defeated by the one character that is entitled to defeat him, Kitana.
Kitana is the only female still alive in this epic tournament. The Edenian Princess made it to the top 8, and for that I'm very proud of my girl. I'm glad Kitana leaves the tournament against another leader, the Lin Kuei master Sub-Zero.

Hey, good to see ya on the ol MKO, man! I was also hoping to see Sonya and Sub in the finals. Alas, I grossly underestimated the popularity of Noob. The fact that he got passed Scorpion shocked me enough, but I really thought Sonya would get through him.
I also agree with the competition as a whole. Since NRS is doing Injustice, it'll undoubtedly be a long time before we see any MK game news, so this was the PERFECT time for a competition like this. Thanks again, Mick!
As for Kitana, do people really hate her that much now? I guess I'm kinda neutral to her looks. I think her MK2011 look is better than the MK2 blue onesy bathing suit, but I don't want to tip off some large debate on the subject, as I'm guessing that there are those that would strongly disagree.
Oh well, anyways, I get the feeling that this will come down to Sub Vs Noob and I'm not really sure how I feel about that yet. I'm still kinda hoping for some surprises.
I guess we'll see!

I vote Kitana!
I have absolutely nothing against Sub-Zero, though. He's an excellent character. From the time he was introduced, he's remained interesting and a huge part of the MK storyline. Although his rather cold and calm attitude may seem a bit '...bluh' at first, he's still a great character. His movesets are good, especially the recent one, his cyber transformation was a bit heart-breaking simply because of his and Smoke's reactions to it, and I really love the part where Smoke and Kabal drag CSZ off and Jax reprograms him and Smoke is just. Happier. It definitely shows the bond they have.
Aheeeem.
Kitana was the first character I liked, mostly because she was a blue-garbed female, but I-and I still do- adored her design and moveset. A lot of people hate her hair. I like it. I think it looks good on her. I don't like her secondary outfit's facial structure- it looks too different from the facial structure of her primary. Anyway.
Her story was awful in MK9, I agree. Her best scene was after the fight with Liu Kang in my opinion- it was a cute scene. I'm glad Kitana was able to independently find her way, though, but her damsel-in-distress role and gullibility were sour points in her storyline which made it annoying. (and this is why I like Jade better then Kitana but that's for later).
I have to vote for Kitana since she was my first favorite. Also, she at least needs a bit of a chance against Sub-Zero. Honestly, I'd hate to see her lose to Sub-Zero 30% to 70%.

Now? Since I've been on MKO, which would be around the time that promotion for MKD started, Kitana hasn't been liked very much. As for Kitana, do people really hate her that much now?
Still, I like that she's the last female fighter standing. I was hoping her, Sonya, and Jade would all make it this far but alas.

Kitana is in general a really interesting and well-made character. Though her role has been weakened over the past few games, she is still one of my favourite characters.
I have two complaints about her:
- The damsel-in-distress role she's gotten the past few games doesn't fit her. She was always portrayed as a strong character who had to take a life-changing decision which she stuck to and fought for with all her heart. A decision she had to take ALONE, though she got some help to see it through from Jade and the Earthrealm warriors. Mileena was also incredibly nerfed story-wise just to improve on Kitana's damsel-in-distress role.
- In the newest game she looked too girly. She used to be this sexy, otherworldly assassin character, but now she wears baby-blue, she wears a freaking tiara and her overall appearance is alot more like an otherworldly fantasy princess than an assassin. It's a shame.
I used to have some issues with the way her hair animation was, but it doesn't bother me anymore. I just hope NRS improves on it in the next game. ^^
The good things about her is that she has a really strong storyline in the old timeline. She was a key character and she filled out that role perfectly. I loved all her looks in the past games (except MKvsDCU) and my favourite look for her is still her MKDA alt/MKA main which to me looks purple, though Razor calls it indigo. Forgive me, I am colourblind, but either way I think it looks awesome and I wouldn't mind her have another colour than blue for once.
Her gameplay is also the best in the newest game. Her moves, her combos, her amazing weapon of choice and the way she uses it in the game, her fatalities from all the games she's been in... I just generally love to play as her no matter what game she is in.
Sonya might be the first female character to star in MK, but Kitana is definately the most important female character to the story.
