Its gonna fall on Noob and Kung Lao

-His fighting style has been limited to say the least. Until MK9, I feel that NRS struggled to get a firm moveset for the guy. He never has had that great of a moveset, IMO.
- He hasn't really appeared in many games.
- He's grey. Which I guess I find kind of boring. He also got the long hair in this last game which just looks ridiculous IMO.
Just overall he's not THAT great of a character. I admit he is a decent character, but to be as popular as he is, I mean he's 5th on the official site behind Scorpion, Raiden, Sub-Zero, and Liu Kang it just really shocks me. I don't understand why. He's never done anything important and he's never had just a stellar moveset. However his popularity remains through the roof. I just feel that characters like Kitana, Sonya, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage. I feel they all deserve more popularity than Smoke.
Someone brought up that maybe it's because he was a secret character, but Reptile was the FIRST secret character and he isn't as popular as Smoke is.
They also suggested maybe it's because he's so totally tied to Sub-Zero and some Sub-Zero fans like him as well, but I'm a Sub-Zero fan and I don't really like him. If it wasn't for him Sub-Zero probaly wouldn't be a walking refrigerator.
I guess I just find him uninteresting, and his popularity shocks the hell out of me because he hasn't been in a lot of games, and doesn't have a great story. It's just MY opinion though. I just don't see what it is with him.

-His story had more weight to it than half of the entire Earthrealm cast for years. Liu Kang Johnny, Sonya, and Jax showed up game after game to 'fight the bad guys', with their motivations seldom changing. They all got stale. Compared to them, Smoke had a great story, and his new background and origins have only served to make him more intriguing to a lot of people. You're possibly the only person I've ever seen who says his story isn't all that.
-Grey's awesome, and so is the hair. :P
-Amount of appearances really shouldn't matter too much when taking a character's worth into consideration. If a character is a hit, they're a hit. Rain had two selectable appearances, and became a vasty improved character in his second, earning him a respectable fanbase. Conversely, Jax shows up again and again and is often considered boring and stale.
Most importantly, never underestimate the benefit to being a character who has had two seperate incarnations through the series' history. There are cyber fans and there are human fans.
I think a big part of it is also the fact that he has always seemed - in theory anyway - closest in concept to an actual traditional ninja, using smoke, speed, stealth and invisibility as his tools, while MK's other ninjas are kind of elemental powerhouses. The mystique of being a hidden character certainly contributes to that.
Also, voting Sub.

What the hell? Kitana is winning? What kind of sorcery is this?
Also, is anyone else worried that Thunder Idiot will beat Johnny Cage simply because of angry Jade fans voting for him out of spite?

I'm a huge Jade fan (ask anyone), but I will probably vote for Cage. Why would I be angry over the fact that Cage won over Jade in this poll? That would just be bitter and moronic. If I had reasons to not vote for Cage it would be because of his game appearances, his gameplay, his stoyline, stuff like that and definately NOT because of some vote-off on a fan site. That's just ridiculous.
I always do a pro/con count before making a vote, so if Cage has more pros than Raiden, then I'll vote for him. I don't care much for Cage or Raiden though, so it will have to wait until the actual vote-off between the two is up, but as I see it now, it will come into Cage's favour.

My post was not meant to be an insult, I just don't get why anyone would complain about any users' time spent on the internet... Especially after you mentioned that you're at work and posting what you posted. That's all, don't worry about other people on here. Just have fun and go about.
But whatever, my vote goes to Sub-Zero...

I don't think she'll beat Sue-Zero around these parts, but...Kitana all the way! She's my favorite character, and she was especially awesome in MK9.
I have no problem with Noob winning last round. If he could eliminate Scorpion of all people (granted, he had a lot of help from trolls voting against Scorp) it shouldn't be too surprising he could eliminate Sonya too.

Wasn't referring to you exactly but I saw MANY Jade fans that were bitter over this. It wouldn't surprise me if some Jade fans voted for Raiden for that reason alone.

Well, people can and will vote for whatever reason they choose. Nothing you can do about it either way.

I somehow doubt this. But then again, I really only have my own opinion to go on. I thought that it kind of stunk that Jade lost, and then about a day after the new poll was up, I had basically forgotten about it.
If I vote for Raiden, it'll be because I like him more than Cage. If I vote for Cage, well, same rules apply. Jade and this poll have nothing to do with either of them.

I'm kinda that way about Noob in that I like how improved he is as a character, but I don't get why THAT many people like him, as he just screams "average" to me. But to each his own.
Personally, I loved Smoke in MK2011. I thought that he was really fun to use, even if there were a lot of teleport spammers online.
You don't like gray? Okay, now it just looks like you're finding reasons to bash the guy, like your opinion is so thoroughly made up that you're just trying to find reasons to bag on him.
As for them retconning his becoming a cyborg, I personally don't like the cyborgs, so the fact that they did that makes me like him even more.

I voted Kitana.
I know that Sub Zero is going to run away with this whole thing, but a few things:
1 - I hated the way he fought in MK2011, while I loved the way that Kitana fought.
2 - I hated unmasked Sub Zero. Why is he white? Has that ever been explained? And why does his scar look so goofy? Ya know, like a painted stripe down his face? It kinda looks like an ugly birth mark.
3 - His stories, while thorough in nature, haven't always impressed me. I like him and Sareena (or was that Bi Han and Sareena in MKM:SZ? I honestly can't remember, it's been so long), but the whole dragon amulet thing and the story with Frost didn't really excite me.
4 - Hate the Shredder mask in MK:D. Some love it, and that's cool, but I think it's one of the worst looks a character has had in MK.
5 - Sub Zero's move list has always felt somewhat limited to me. A few freeze moves and his slide. I like his ice clone and his counter, but then they split them.
6 - Since I'm not a fan of the cyborgs, I'm definitely not a fan of Cyber Sub Zero. I only like his counter and his fatalities are among the worst in the game.
7 - I still don't get why so many people love Sub Zero and yet hate Scorpion. To me, they're two peas in a pod and have been since the begining. It's like loving Ryu and hating Ken.
I'm not saying you can't do it, but it just seems odd to me. I get it. Scorpion's story is stale. Sub's is well explored and he does a lot more. Fine. Great. But story is only one thing that makes a character great.
Sub Zero fans, feel free to chop my head off about this, but as much as I like him (and don't let the list fool you, I DO like him), I just don't get why Scorpion, bad story and all, doesn't make it out of the second round, while Sub Zero, with average to above average gameplay and the luck of getting a whole game centered around him (although Liu Kang and Kung Lao got a MUCH better game centered around them) is somehow the odds on favorite to win this whole thing.
Call me crazy, I just think it's strange, and I'm starting to think that he's a little overrated. I didn't vote for Kitana because I hate Sub Zero or anything, I just honestly think that her story has been very solid as well and her gameplay, especially in the latest game, was better.

He's not fully white; he's half Asian and half white. Chinese father and white American mother. He was originally supposed to be full Asian, but they made this up circa Mythologies to explain why they had a white guy play him in MK3. To their credit he does look more mixed in MK9 than just being a John Turk clone.
And I agree with you completely on people who hate on Scorpion but love Sub-Zero. "OMG I hate Scorpion because he's popular and shoved down our throats and he's a pallette swap and omg I just hate ninjas but I love, LOVE Sub-Zero!!1" Yeah no. That doesn't work.
These same people will then go on to say Scorpion's story of always hunting somebody is boring, but Sub-Zero's story of being hunted BY somebody is the pinnacle of Western storytellng. Yeah no, again, this doesn't fly with me.

I agree as well. People can hate Scorpion because he's the poster boy, but not Sub-Zero when he too is the poster boy. Makes no sense at all.

Sub zero IS overrated...so is Scorpion...i dont understand either one's HYPE, but I cant seem to resist Scorpion, yea his story may not be the best, his costumes are getting uglier by the game but for some reason, he continues to pull me in towards him...
I honestly like sub zero(kuai) only because of his personality, not because he can freeze shit...i saw iceman do that looong before sub zero... so sub zero never did shit for me 'ICEplay' wise...which was shit in this game.

I don't know, Kitana is in the lead so far. I voted for Kitana because personally, I think she's a better developed character in terms of story and gameplay. Sub-Zero seems slow and stiff in the new game. But alas, I won't be disappointed of Kitana is eliminated. I'm happy to know that Kitana was the final female to be eliminated and I'm happy she made it this far. You go Glen Coco!

I agree as well. People can hate Scorpion because he's the poster boy, but not Sub-Zero when he too is the poster boy. Makes no sense at all.

These same people will then go on to say Scorpion's story of always hunting somebody is boring, but Sub-Zero's story of being hunted BY
somebody is the pinnacle of Western storytellng. Yeah no, again, this doesn't fly with me.

I hated unmasked Sub Zero. Why is he white? Has that ever been explained? And why does his scar look so goofy? Ya know, like a painted stripe down his face? It kinda looks like an ugly birth mark.

Both you and Shadowpreacher nailed it. I really don't get the hatred for Scorpion and the love for Sub Zero. Can all of it have to do with just story? Or is it because Scorpion is Ed Boon's favorite character?
I know that some have tried to explain this and I'm just having a memory issue more than anything else, but to me, a better story shouldn't make one character the favorite and one character a 2nd round loser when they're both the faces of the franchise.
To me, that just seems odd. I mean, I know that there's no accounting for taste, and people are going to like what they like, but honestly? If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick Scorpion simply because he was WAY more fun to use in MK2011 and he's always been a fun character to use.
Oh well, I guess that staring in your own mediocre side scroller with uber-cheesy live action cut scenes trumps everything.
Sorry, I don't mean to needle the Sub Zero fans. As I've said, I like him too. But from an objective standpoint (and yes, I can be objective), I just think that Kitana has a story that's at or nearly as solid as Sub's to go along with much better overall gameplay, and that's not just MK2011 either. That includes MK:DA, MK Gold, Trilogy and MK2 as well. But again, that's just my opinion.

I hate Sub-Zero and Scorpion equally <3
Not starting a flame war, but I think their soaring popularity comes from their consistent stunner specials (ice and spear respectively). People love to spam free hits. They were the only characters in MK1 to have such a move, and they've had it ever since...
