As much as I loathe the idea of a possible final four featuring all ninjas, I have to vote for Smoke here.
Though I didn't like him as much in MK3, he's changed enough over the course of several games to be compelling, and the fact that we actually got some backstory on him in MK2011 was as nice surprise.
Liu Kang, a much as I like the champ, has become stale and signficantly worse over time (zombie Liu Kang? I'm still shocked that someone thought that was a good idea).

Voted for Smoke, I can't stand Liu Kang mainly because I always have trouble when the A.I. is using him and I've often had trouble playing as him effectively.

Obviously Smoke. I like his Human & Cyborg/Cyber Demon form. After years of being ignored he finally gets a story and a original moveset and Fatalities. I don't really care about his hair cuz I usually use the Alt. Costume and MKII outfit but w.e
Liu Kang is kinda boring now a days. Typical Bruce Lee clone(pretty much EVERY fighting game has one LOL. DOA-Jann Lee, SF-Fei Ling, Tekken-Law etc.) Someone should be the new champ for a change

Well, I voted for Liu Kang. It took me awhile to decide, so over anything else, I looked at background abilities. Smoke is a master ninja, he displayed intense abilities at a very young age, showing very much potential. But his gameplay has proven to me that he has no truly intense abilties, some of his moves even make me laugh. Liu Kang, he could win the tenth MK Tournament from Tsung and Goro, stop Kahn from taking Earthrealm twice, and stop Shinnok from taking his revenge on Raiden. But he couldn't handle taking Tsung and Quan Chi at one time. But he has no fear of demolisging his opponent in extremely gruesome ways. So, due to ability and stength, I vote for Kang.

I voted for Liu Kang because he's fun to play as and I love his turkey voice. Smoke's alright too, but I think the warrior who can do bicycle kicks is more awesome than a smoking ninja.

Wow... Smoke is beating Liu?
Yikes.
Yikes.

For the longest time, I pretty much went about it with the simplest explanation possible; they all happened, but Sonya somehow survived, even if how is never explained. Jarek's bio in MKA proved just that, as Jax did toss Jarek off the cliff. I indeed considered Sonya potentially dead until MKDA happened.
Also: Herr derr i voet teh Smoek.
Actually debated this. MK2011 did both of them a bunch of good.

Liu Kang all the way. He's based off of the badass Bruce Lee and he's incredibly fun to play as. His special attacks are simple yet cool, his combos rock, and I love his Dragon fatality (probably my favorite fatality of all time). Some people don't like him because he always wins and is too goody goody to them, and I can understand that. I actually think he's pretty cool considering he's one of the few characters who isn't fighting for selfish reasons (vengeance, power, money, eternal life, etc.) and at the very least it's somebody awesome who's wining all the time. Imagine how lame it would be if Johhny Cage was always defeating everybody.
Smoke on the other hand is somebody I've always thought was cool, but never presented correctly. MK9 changed that, but he still isn't one of my favorites. He's pretty cool but there are still plenty of people who I like a lot more. Hair aside he looked cool and his gameplay was fitting for once. Gonna have to go with the Champion of Mortal Kombat though, my fourth favorite character.

Smoke.
Liu Kang is tired and bland. Though MK9 did a good job with him, giving him a good personality probably for the first time in game series, I think it was a bit too late. No matter what personality you give to him, he will always stays a boring desginated hero, who wins all (in one on one fight, that is). I applaude MK9 writers for having guts to kill him.
Smoke was in even worse shape than Liu. He was a perma-victim and all that he had for his personality is SUFFERING and a lot of connections with the other characters, but none of them make his personality significant. He was more of plot device, rather than genuine character. Being Smoke was SUFFERING, indeed. MK9 finally broke the mold. They had done with his cyborg form and presented Smoke in entirely different light and for the first time he had a genuine personality. His was stylish, probably the most stylish "ninja" character in the game, Ermac aside. He had awesome gameplay and interesting revelations were made about his origin. While Liu is kind of down on potential for the future, Smoke is brewing with possibilities as never before.
Facts as in revelation that Noob is Bi Han and the like. Not the events themselves, since with that kind of logic we must assume that every ending is canon somehow, that is obviously never was the case.

That might be how you go about it, but I'd rather wait until later to see what ACTUALLY happens as opposed to just assuming it's happened until I find out differently.
Again, there are too many things that don't happen as far as endings are concerned to simply believe all of them. I mean, what about MK4, when Jarek killed Sonya in his ending and Sonya killed him in hers? Was I supposed to believe that both of those endings happened until MK:DA?

Tough one-
Liu Kang: the good the bad and the zombie vs Smoke: human/cyborg/human again.
I liked Zombie Kang, it was the first plot twist to make his character interesting. But still i voted Smoke. The original human ninja to cyborg ninja thing was an unprecedented idea at first (whereas now there are cyber versions of practically everyone). I appreciated this during MK3 and in the MKD/MKA primary/alt costumes. And now back to human and with easy combos & way cool powers.

I vote Liu Kang.
MK9 did Liu Kang right by not having him be a bland hero. Which I really appreciated.
Smoke is cool. But his raspy voice and cheesy dialogue just didn't cut it for me. (Though the raspy voice makes sense, being surrounded by smoke all the time)

Actually, you won't have to worry about an all ninja final 4. One of the quarter-final rounds is Johnny Cage vs. Raiden, neither are ninjas.
