How can you spout that bullshit about going to the extreme when you sit here and take such a miniscule thing so far.

It's a fucking winning pose. That's all. Jade isn't going to be strip dancing in story mode. God damn.

The hypocrisy and the flat out ignorance in this thread is mind-boggling.

About Me

Fact: Quoting game designers in an attempt to prove or disprove a theory about the future of the MK franchise is a fool's errand. Sometimes what they say on the subject proves to be accurate, other times it does not. Somehow life goes on.

Nobody's freaking out or becoming hysterical. People are just having an opinion on her victory animation, some love it, some dont. On one hand I think it's really cheeky and playful (and actually well animated if I do say so myself), but on another I'm worried another female character I've liked since childhood will fall under the "Sexy Babe" category and her substance and depth will deteriorate similar to the way it has with Mileena.

Nobody's freaking out, it's just a discussion :)

Jade fell into the sexy babe category since MKD. However, she will never become like Mileena. Do you know why? Because unlike with Mileena, MK fans never saw Jade for much else than a Kitana palette swap. Fans gave Mileena a background and personality which she NEVER showed in the games, so that her current personality doesn't fit with how they imagined it is what caused them to rage.

No one ever did that with Jade.

I agree, the women in this game has indeed been oversexualized, and the only character it really fits is Mileena. But none of the other female characters have been deteriorated the way Mileena has.

People just focus on one thing and stops looking at everything else. First of all, Jade wears the most clothes besides Sonya of the female characters. Her outfit is clearly inspired from her UMK3 outfit. Even back then, in UMK3, the women didn't wear that much clothes.

And from what I've noticed, no one seemed to have any problem with Jade being oversexualized until they actually saw her win pose! Jade twirling around her staff turned into a heavy debate on her being oversexualized - why didn't that debate happen when she was confirmed to wear this:

People were praising Jade's looks when this render was released! But now all of a sudden, because of her win pose, people find her slutty, a whore, a stripper, oversexualized...

People are overreacting!

If you dislike how the women in this game is portrayed, go on a crusade against the NRS headquarters and tell them what's on your mind. Complaining about it on a forum is the easy way out, because then people don't have to move their lazy asses and actually do something about it. To me, it just sounds like alot of complaining, whining and bitching about something they are unhappy with, but don't really care to do anything about. Also, it's easier to hide behind the screen and type alot of shit instead of confronting the people who are responsible for the things you dislike.

Therefore I find it very hard to take any of it seriously. I understand the points you guys are trying to make, but there's no effort behind them to support them. It's just words on a screen.

If you truly are offended by how women in videogames are portrayed, then do something about instead of just whining on some fan forum.

There is no reasoning with these people.

Here's your conversation in a nutshell.

Garlador: "Stop going the the extreme."
Prudes: "WHERE NOT GOING TO THE EXTREME"
Pudes: "OMG LOOK AT JADE'S WIN POSE, SHE'S A STRIPPER WITH NO PERSONALITY OR ORIGINALITY."
Garlador: "Stop going to the extreme."

Luca, to people who care about the characters and have followed these characters for years and see them all lumped into the same category, the issue is not miniscule, otherwise it obviously would not be bothering people.

And yet Jade is my current favorite female character in this game and she has never been in any prior games. Huh...

Well you are wrong. I care deeply about the characters, and I've probably spent way more time involved with Mortal Kombat than you have.

But I can separate what is simply a fun win pose for a character from her entire mythos and canonical story.

Nope no need, I have nothing against any of the renders. I was just pointing out how big her cleavage was :p edit: i wasn't contributing to the argument in anyway, just making a random comment. Happy you made me admitsad

The victory pose is ridiculous but, tell me, what the fuck isn't in MK? I think it's fucking bad-ass that she does that. I'm glad they didn't leave the fun behind because then MK itself would lose it's personality.

Okay... here's a question. Why DOESN'T it jive? Can you tell me why Jade should NOT have a playful, even sexual, side? What part of her story and mythos ever said she was a chaste virgin that had neither arrogance, sexuality, or playful fun?

Many of these characters rarely had any development, Jade included, and this is the closest we've had to them getting fully fleshed-out, fully realized and unique personalities. Their intros, win-poses, dialogue taunts, and moves all augment who they are. Mileena is sexual and psychotic. Sonya is tough and militant. Noob is fearsome and dark. Johnny Cage is cocky and arrogant. Kitana is regal and proud.

And Jade is beautiful, fun, and even seductive. Just because you haven't seen this side of her in close proximity before doesn't mean it wasn't there, nor does it negate the strength she has possessed and continues to posses.

At what point was Jade ever described as being a boring iron-box with no sense of sexuality?

When I play Mortal Kombat, I want to be playing with my friends, drunk off my ass, saying "Yea dude, Jade is fuckin sexy."

Not wearing a monocle, sipping tea, and saying "Yes, chap, I do believe Jade is a handsome, modest woman."

Sigh.....
No, Luca, I'm not "trolling" you, I am capable of understanding the word "seperate". I just don't see how it SHOULD be seperate, or why the personality of a character portrayed in a mythos has to be completely different in a different game mode. It's a ridiculous arguement. It's not different for Jax, Scorpion, or Sub-Zero. But it has to be for Jade.

Whatever.

More of a valid question than Luca's, will give you that. I was focusing on the absence of the trait I suppose. It was never there to begin with, and it seems they are throwing it all in there, with everyone else, just "because" (although not sure what about Kitana's current rendition screams "regal and proud", but that's another topic). They gave Mileena the trait of sex as a weapon, and it's understandable for her, or even one or two characters to have that. But every single one? Really? Well, if it pleases the masses I suppose you guys got your game.
