"I shudder to think at what you'll do if you play Duke Nukem'"

Sadly, the world may ever know, since it would involve somebody actually buying Duke Nukem Forever when it comes out.

People say that shit all the time.

And jesus christ did my point fly right over your head? These characters are fucking digital, who gives a damn?

By the way, I'm in a relationship with a sexier woman than you will ever come within 10 feet of.

Just saying.

They look sexier when they show skin. This is true 100% of the time.

I couldn't squeeze "panties" in there. Not that she's ever worn those either (that naughty, naughty girl).

Well, *Kano*... You just have to realize... Women are sluts. And there's nothing wrong with how Mortal Kombat portrays women. The women in MK are sexy, intelligent and tough. They show their bodies, because they know they are sexy, just like women in real-life.

Sure there are fully clothed women in real life as well, but no one wants to look at those. I'm sure their personalities are great and all, but really, that's not really all that interesting. Especially not in a videogame like Mortal Kombat.

Mortal Kombat is a game, and a game is for entertainment, and people are entertained with slutty women, both in real life and in games.

It's alright if you don't like that, but there's no reason to be in denial.

Also, I hope people get that this is an overdramatization and won't get offended by what I said... though it is true.

Yeah. Leave it to some people to go straight to the other xtreme when one person shows a distaste for how women are portrayed in this game.

Make that two people. And probably many more.

Just saw the video. And I must say, utterly idiotic. Let's see. Is there any OTHER female we can give the "I'm a sexy bimbo in a bikini or a tight top so my junk is about to fall out" attribute to?

Folks, it's not only about showing skin for the sake of showing skin and nothing else (which is what is going on here), it's about lumping all of the female characters into the same barrel and, in essence, destroying the individuality of the characters themselves.
Mileena: sexy rubbing herself and over half naked. Well, it's ok I guess, it's Mileena...that's kinda her thing....
Kitana: Half naked. Well, er...that's the most she's shown...not sure her character would do that really....that's kinda her...thing...?
Sonya: Black, skin-tight outfit with her cup sized increased AGAIN and spilling out all over the place. Ok, military was the FIRST thing that came to mi....wait a second, no it's not....what's Nina Williams with implants doing in here? Well it's Sonya...it's kinda her thing....? Uh....
Sindel: Increased at least 2 cup sizes and looks so ridiculous her mams could be used as weapons. Ok, not sure WHAT to make of THAT...but that's always been her thing, right...?
Jade: Fierce warrior turned Edenian poledancer. Huh...? Well at least she fits in nicely with the REST of the lot....well we all knew using sex as a weapon was her thing, right? Oh wow, is this sounding familiar...?

So moral of the story....if you are a female and you are in MK (or heck, any game anymore because nobody seems to know how to design females any other way), you HAVE to "use sex as a weapon". It's a rule.

Riiiiiight wow

Pretty awesome and original when EVERY female in the game has the exact same schtick going on . Very clever NRS.

I think the point he's making is that women who do wear revealing clothing and are in touch with their sexuality are often unfairly portrayed as being promiscuous or tarty, and that with the MK females dressed/or behaving in a lascivious manner it could reflect badly on their characters. It's a game made by a predominantly male staff and is aimed towards the male market, so to not expect sex appeal of some sort would be a little naive. But not all of the girls need to be these flirty, playfull, beautiful and scantily dressed babes. Some of the girls were actually hotter when they're outfit designs and mannerisms weren't designed or based off of being obviously or subtley sexual, they didn't have to rely on their sexuality to be noticable either.

Look at every woman revealed so far, bearing in mind these women are fighting in a bloodsport fighting tournament to the death. Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Sonya, Sindel, Scarlett and even Sheeva all have outfits that are purposely designed to be more sexually arousing than practical (Dont tell me for a second that Sheeva's V shaped thong is considered appropriate battle attire for a four armed savage warrior, or that Sindel's diced up swim suit with matching High Heeled Boots is appropriate dress code for a Warrior Queen).

The focus on the women's designs seem to be "ok, how do we make them all sexy and risque?" more so than actual reflections on the women's characters, and that's what the problem is here. It's one thing to expect violence in a fighting game (obviously), but with the inclusion of Battle Damage these already skimpy outfits fall apart even further. And coincidentally, only the women's outfit's get raunchier when they're hit. The men's don't become any more sexually attractive at all.

Compare the likes of Kitana, a royal member of the Edenian Family, to Scorpion, an Undead Ninja from the NetherRealm, and you'll see the creative differences in a man and woman's costumes in this game. Scorpion's is a reflection of his demonic, tormented nature whilst still staying true to who he is and what he stands for as a member of the Shirai Ryu, and Princess Kitana....well, she's wearing a bustier, a thong, and thigh high heels. Oh, and a Tiara, since combining that above look with a Tiara just screams to the world that she's not a Playboy Bunny, but a Princess.

Not a good enough example? Ok then, compare Styker to Sonya. Stryker, a member of a Swat team, comes equipped with guns, handcuffs, tazers, grenades and an outfit that is fairly casual but well equipped for his proffession. Sonya? She's wearing a vest which shows cleavage and side boob, skin tight leather pants and high heeled boots. Oh, and her vest has a badge on it, so you know she's in the army. And cradled between that huge bouncy cleavage is some dog tags too just to hammer the message across that she's a respected Lieutenant in a highly specialised devision of the army. See the difference?

We're all expecting violence in this game, and that's to be expected, but I see no reason for over-sexualising the girls to the point they are only noticeable for their looks. I've seen more arguements on Kitana's out of character outtfit and Sonya's lack of under shirt than I have seen debates on either of their gameplay or storyline, which goes to show this is something that does need to be addressed.

It doesn't make you a prude just because you can notice that the team are excessively over sexualising just the females in the franchise, it just means it's gotten that far along now that a female character can swing around on a pole at the end of the fight with her left breast almost completely exposed and nobody bats an eyelid about it.

This was unnecessary.

I agree with the rest of your post, though. This video game is just catering to wanting me to have fun. People looking for tastefulness in a game that garnered popularity through ripping the spines out of peoples' necks are just ridiculous.

It's video game. Would I ever date a girl that exposed themself the way MK females do? Fuck no. But then again, I'm not looking to date any of MK's women. But it sure is fun watching their boobs bounce after Johnny Cage slams their disembodied torso on the ground!

It's one aspect of an otherwise amazing-looking game that I feel just does not need to be there, and does not fit the characters. They seem to have gotten each character down perfectly (even Jax, who it seems they have had trouble in the past giving him a definite, serious personality. They finally nailed it). Every single female character they have given the exact same attribute to, all in an effort to sell out to a crowd that really doesn't care much about the characters, they just want to see some polygonal mamaries bouncing around. Understandable, and usually reserved for alternate outfits. But primaries? And making them act and wear things that are making quite a few people scratch their heads where it doesn't itch? Something obviously isn't right here.

I speak for myself when I say that in answer to your question, I myself play this game because I've grown up being a fan of it. It has, and always will be, one of my favourite games to play in terms of story and gameplay. Just because the girls have gotten increasingly more provocative in the last few games doesn't mean I'm going to abandon the whole series, it just means I'm not particularly impressed with their character design as of late.

Nobody's freaking out or becoming hysterical. People are just having an opinion on her victory animation, some love it, some dont. On one hand I think it's really cheeky and playful (and actually well animated if I do say so myself), but on another I'm worried another female character I've liked since childhood will fall under the "Sexy Babe" category and her substance and depth will deteriorate similar to the way it has with Mileena.

Nobody's freaking out, it's just a discussion :)

Oh Gawd!

We have had this exact same conversation for EVERY single female character in the game! From Sonya to Kitana to Sindel to SHEEVA.

This is a game of gloriously excessive fantasy fiction. If there was ANY game that's better suited for hot sex and violence, besides God of War, I haven't seen it. Even Dead or Alive's nauseating boobs don't fit into their universe as well as Sonya's stacked missiles, Kitana's contained royal pillows, Mileena's covered forbidden fruits, Jade's pole-extending pleasantries, Sindel's sweet banshee sweater-meat, or even Sheeva's leotard-lined half-dragon, half-beach babe bod.

This has always bothered me since the reveal of Mileena way back when, The bust of their costume is way too far apart. You should totally be able to see nipples, especially Jade. Im not saying this has anything to do with the win pose, but I never said anything about it in all the numerous threads over the months, at least I dont remember. They just need to think before they make so much boob visible, becuase we should be seeing nipples on Mileena and Jade's costumes, unless Outworld folk dont have nipples. Shao Khan has nipples doesnt he?

Mileena? Deteriorated?

Ugh, this is when I have to say that you don't understand the character. Or your being prude has blinded you to the obvious.

Mileena has been so one-dimensional until this series. Her only draw point was that she wanted to be her sister. Now she's got that AND a wonderfully demented personality to boot.

And regarding characters becoming bimbos. You're going to have to learn to separate Mortal Kombat's sexual appeal from its story. The attire of the females has really never been appropriate for their status in the actual canon of the story.

You're not going to see Jade running around going "derp derp I have tities" and spinning around on her staff in the story. I can promise you that.

Mortal Kombat clearly wants sexuality to be a focal point in their franchise. Btu they also care about their story.

Way to become the poster-boy for the typical "going to the other extreme of the arguement" there buddy.

This horse has been beaten enough, and, again, is just going to revert to "then have Them ALl coVered up!!11" and "PoTato SAX! LOl!!11" and "it's fiction so it's ok!" and "every other game is doing it!" All of which I have addressed and refuted in previous threads, so I am not going to waste my time doing it again. It's apparant that it has gotten so bad that nobody even KNOWS how to make a strong female character in any other way anymore.

So, it is what it is now. Jade is a poledancer now. Hooray. Bring on barely-clad, character-less bimbo #5. Originality, we hardly knew ya.
