I think no one will be able to top the charisma of Scorpion and Sub-Zero. I think that some entries have tried to do similar takes but with different names and slightly different moves, but it's still Scorpion & Sub-Zero in disguise.

I'm not trashing the people "incarnation" of these iconic characters. I would like to see another Scorpion incarnation, like Frost is to Sub-Zero, with a plausible background/story. I have such a character in mind but I wanted to stay away from the "incarnation craze".

Originality is going to go far in the competition.

It's almost difficult not to, with Mk, as so many characters are quite similar, with the same sort of plotlines. (Revenge revenge revenge!!!)

Mine is fairly original, I think, but I did base her name off the scheme off 'Sheeva' being a mispronounciation of a Hindu god.

The revenge thing works a lot in the MK series as everyone is a victim of Kahn's wrath.

Even characters like Johnny Cage is a victim. He may not know it as he cant see past the mirror of himself haha! But everyone is involved. If the World dies, Cage dies. So an attack on Earth is an attack on him.

I have gone for the "revenge" angle. But my story is at the beginning of Kahns' rule over Outworld.

Trying not to mingle with the present story so far. Kahn's story has never really been told of his sidekick role under Onaga or even when the early events of Kahn's rule. I tend to play with the early beginnings.

Revenge is original. But it still works and still drives most of the stories is any genre. SORRY! EDIT: Was meant to put "revenge ISN'T original" lol.

I agree. It's really logical that nearly everyone is out for revenge; everybody fights so they could get an opportunity to kill Kahn, since he's responsible for doing harm on everyone. Nearly everyone. Or something.

Crap.

Dude, you just told your character's story before the deadline.

That's pretty detrimental.

I haven't gave nothing away apart from the time period...

Oh and that its a revenge trip.

You really think my imagination has hit it's limit by only giving up these two?

Dude... Expand your mind.

Please, don't attack me.

I never said you had a limit, nor did I imply it. Nevertheless, you still told your character's story, even if it isn't the entire story. It's a revenge story beginning around the start of Shao Kahn's rule of Outworld.

This information is enough for people to make up their own ideas of what your character is. You don't want them to do that, because if what they think isn't what you have, they may reject your character.

I apologize if I sounded abusive. I only meant to inform you what you did is not a good idea. I do mean well by it.

lol I wasn't attacking mate so don't worry.

By me saying the time period means nothing. Everyone can speculate but they wont get it till the release of everyone's character.

As for the "revenge" trip. Mortal Kombat has about 90% of vengeful characters anyway. So I don't think that is giving away anything about my character either.

Users are already speculating what other user's characters and backgrounds will be by the names of the characters. I say speculate all they like! It's fun!

People actually speaking calmly to each other and even taking responsibility for their words on the internet? My word! Look how this competition has brought us together. grin

Who told you to but in? hahah!

Well It shows who is mature and who's not. I like to think that this competition is a fun one, but I also want to see the serious side too. Some People are secretive of their characters 100%. But I don't mind throwing something out there for people to try and work with lol

Mine's from France.... Oh the shame, I've gone and done it.

Heck, I'd like it if people gave little tid bits of information... But considering the number of entrees, that is a whole lot of tid bits................... And thanks! I made it five minutes ago, haha....

I wish I had the time to participate in this.

sad

Congrats to all the participants and good luck!

I'm way to OCD about these kind of stuff and with all the work I have to do I'd probably stress myself out more than its worth it trying to make my character work.

queve. You don't have to novelize it! I only spent 3 hours total over a week to do mine. I already had the ideas, I just had to type it out!

Then there was the first drawing that only took 30 minutes.

The I created the character on WWE SVR2011. Took a picture and put it on the computer... Then run it through an editing program and 'SHIBANG'! Done.

Haha. Without sounding insulting, because that's the complete opposite of what I intend, this post made me laugh. I do this all the time at work: where you go to explain what is actually a fairly simple process but when actually written out it sounds infinitely more complex. The steps just keep adding up, even though it's really pretty simple. tongue

Moving on though, I really don't think giving away tiny tidbits will be much of a disadvantage. It may encourage others to alter their designs based on ideas you give them, but I doubt that the reading public will be too negatively swayed because a character they thought they'd figured out is actually quite different when they see the full bio.

just curious on how many people updated or tweaked there characters design, appearance, moves, story and etc. i personally did not update my character because i feel that to much of something can be a bad thing. can't wait until this tournament starts.

by the way crow is there a limit of how many times you can update your character or no there's no limit until june 7th.

also crow will the judges expect artwork for characters in the tournament. i feel some people might have an edge over others if artwork plays a big part of judging the quality of the characters.

best of luck to everyone in the tournament.

I think good artwork will only have an advantage over what is generally seen as poor descriptive skills. Since it's not required to have art, art shouldn't really have an effect on the judging. It's just a tool to help visualize the character, nothing more.

On another topic, I keep editing mine. I just finished some more edits ten minutes ago. I may be going a little too in depth at this point.... But that's just me. Leave no rock unturned.

Just out of curiosity, how in depth has everyone gone with their descriptions of their characters fighting style? I found it pretty hard to articulate exactly how I see her moving and playing.
I'm just worried everyones gonna have gone into extreme detail about movesets and I've just got the one paragraph.

Can't wait for this to actually get started though. It's gonna be good :)

Mine is like 3 sentences, so you're not alone in that regard. I also couldn't figure out how to really describe my character's style.

I'm still tweaking things here and there, mostly special moves. and ending not much else though.

I tried to keep mine short and sweet. One of the things I like about the MK character's is their element of mystique and intrigue, and I love (as a fan) delving deep into a character's background from tidbits of information. It's something I tried here with my Character, Kuwinda. I just hope it translates well, I have her up on my Facebook and she was very popular with my own friends so here's hoping the community likes her too
.
In a typical MK fashion I've made her name translate to something, likewise with her battle cry. Likewise I've tried to give her powers that compliment her bio, her ending and her culture. Her outfit is also intended to be very reminiscent of her backstory and her personality too. Considering I'm more orientated towards story than gameplay, that's kind of the angle I was working at.

I need to tweak my ending. It has to many "dialogue connectiors" as I call them. Imagine the announcer's barotone voice saying:

"He responded with..."

Just a crappile. Other than that, Zephyr is done!

Please, for the sake of this character, forget that my username is ZephyrWestWind. If that wasn't the case, it would be a cool name considering my character's powers.
