TOURNAMENT BATTLE - ROUND 2:
Johnny Cage versus Kano
#10 Supreme Ranking #25
11 wins 5 losses Record 5 wins 5 losses
Quarters (2016) Best Result Round 2 (2012)
Johnny Cage was a ballbusting martial arts moviestar icon since the very beginning! Fighting since the Shaolin Tournament, he's faced both life and death situations -- always returning for the sequel! He was last seen in MKX, fulfilling a genetic destiny laid out in the reboot timeline. Bred to beat gods, he was the hero who thwarted Shinnok's invasion of Earth -- and the father to the next generation of champion!
Kano was a globally wanted criminal mercenary since the very beginning! He brought a special brand of villainy to the Shaolin Tournament, representing himself first - and the Black Dragon clan second. He sold out his own realm to become a weapons broker to invaders and despots from Outworld. Last seen in MKX, he was playing all sides -- selling arms to Kotal Kahn, Mileena, all whilst secretly serving Quan Chi and the Netherrealm! Caught by the the Special Forces while reentering the realm, Kano faces hard time - at least until his next crime spree.
They are the light and the dark side of human survival - constants of Mortal Kombat for twenty-five years! Iconically distinct, yet ever evolving as Earthrealm champions and rogues! Choose their destiny! FIGHT!
Kano, however, is just dead and tired. He has zero purpose in the series at this point in time. If not for the sheer ineptitude of the SF he would already be put out to pasture.
And i don't understand, why characters like Kira and Kai are not visible in the characters table.
I didn't like Cage as much in MKX as I did in MK9, but Kano felt really fresh. He's a really underrated character despite his longevity. I hope they do some cool stuff with him in the future. Rather than introducing his son as a character, I think it'd be fun to see him continue to extend his life and abilities with cybernetics. Why stop at the heart?
Upvoted! Johnny has been solid for a long time but Kano is just such a great rogue.

TOURNAMENT BATTLE - ROUND 2:
Reptile versus Raiden
#22 Supreme Ranking #4
6 wins 5 losses Record 18 wins 5 losses
Round 3 (2015) Best Result Runner-Up (2013)
Reptile taunted fans with the challenge of Mortal Kombat's first secret, jumping into view in MKII to begin twenty-five years as one of Outworld's most iconic fighters. Believed to be the last survivor of Zaterra, he searched for belonging as bodyguard of Shang Tsung, servant of Shao Kahn, minion for Shinnok, and vessel for The Dragon King. He was most recently seen serving Kotal Kahn in MKX, as part of a cabinet of misfits and survivors who aide the newest Outworld ruler. It remains to be seen where his loyalties will lie in the future.
Raiden descended to the mortal plane to participate in the Shaolin Tournmaent of the first Mortal Kombat. His commitment to mortal affairs continued into the Outworld tournament of MKII and beyond! An iconic stalwart for twenty-five years, he served briefly as Elder God before again reqlinquishing status to aid Earthrealm. Witness to defeat in Armageddon, he gave rise to a new timeline of rewritten consequence. In MKX, the new reality saw Shinnok conquer the Earthrealm only to be driven back into the fires of hell. Upon his return, Raiden submitted his own soul to the Earth's Jinsei spirit as a means of cleansing it of corruption. How this brush with darkness has affected the thunder god remains to be seen.
For twenty-five years they've been among the most identified Mortal Kombat icons! They stand on opposite sides of a war that's raged for generations. Choose their destiny! FIGHT!

TOURNAMENT BATTLE - ROUND 2:
Smoke versus Sheeva
#6 Supreme Ranking #59
17 wins 4 losses Record 1 win 4 losses
Champion (2013) Best Result Round 2 (2017)
Smoke first wafted through The Living Forest of MKII, a non-playable character tempting players to find and fight him through a hidden portal! A Lin Kuei warrior in command of his namesake, he returned in MK3, now encased in the cold metal shell of a cyber-assassin's body. This unfeeling fate was averted in the new timeline, when the man known as Tomas Vrbada this time escaped his clan's plans for automation. Instead, death would claim Smoke during Outworld's invasion of Earth, damning his soul to be enslaved by Quan Chi. In MKX, the revenant enenra is a soldier in the Netherrealm army. His future remains unknown.
Sheeva teleport stomped her way into a memorable debut in MK3. The first playable Shokan warrior; she put the four-armed power of former sub-bosses into the hands of players. As Shao Kahn's hand-picked bodyguard for resurrected Queen Sindel, she served her master in spite of his newfound loyalty to the rival Centaurs. In the new timeline, Sheeva joined the invasion of Earthrealm until The Emperor's destruction. Though absent from MKX, she appears in tie-in comics, assuming the throne of the Shokan Empire. Her future remains uncertain.
They expanded the established clans of the original Mortal Kombat, helping shape the sprawling world unfolded by the original Trilogy! Choose their destiny! FIGHT!
This time im voting for the Shokan Queen, Sheeva.
Ive always thought Smoke was a bit overrated, although I don't dislike him. He's always been a good characters to play and MK9 was an interesting twist on him.
But I have always had a soft spot for Sheeva, I really want her to get another chance outside of the MK3 era, and I liked what they did with her in the comics. She didn't play so well in MK9 but I reckon they could make her a real powerhouse, and the MKX variations could have taken her gameplay in a new direction.

TOURNAMENT BATTLE - ROUND 2:
Jax versus Shao Kahn
#27 Supreme Ranking #15
5 wins 5 losses Record 8 wins 4 losses
Round 3 (2016) Best Result Round 3 (2012)
Jax grabbed Mortal Kombat by the throat in MKII, entering Outworld in search of his missing Special Forces partner. With MK3, the heavyweight grappler reached an iconic apex, adding mechanically enhanced muscle to his already impressive arms! The ground pounding super-soldier remained a stalwart of Earthrealm's greatest fighters -- even starring in his own prequel spin-off! In the reboot timeline, Jax faced a grim fate as the fight to prevent Outworld invasion cost him his life! While his soul was enslaved in the Netherrealm, he was survived by a wife who gave birth to a daughter. In MKX, he was reunited with his family, resurrected to once again fight on the frontlines against evil!
As conquering Emperor of Outworld, Shao Kahn cast a long shadow over the entire series. Revealed as final boss in MKII, he watched players from the throne - openly taunting any who dared face him in the colosseum! He escaped defeat to invade the Earth in MK3, but his mad quest to merge realms is a destiny of doom. He narrowly escaped death at the hands of the deadly alliance, rising on the even of Armageddon with ultimate power almost in reach. A new timeline was created when Raiden reached into the past, dooming Shao Kahn to repeat past defeats. This time Invasion of Earthrealm brought about the intervention of Elder Gods - and the obliteration of Shao Kahn!
In an age of corruption, they stood on the threshold of apocalypse! Two sides of an ancient struggle between Outworld and Earthrealm - good and evil! They are icons of both, struggling in opposition for twenty-five years! Choose their destiny! FIGHT!
I went with Shao Kahn here, mainly because I am not a big fan of Jax, another boring character forced on us in nearly every game. His reveneant story didn't really help him with me. The only interesting thing about him was when he killed Hsu Hao in MKDA ending (don't think it was canon tho).
I think they need to develop Shao Kahn a bit more too. Fair enough he is the big bad, but there must be more to him than just wanting to dominate. We got a little bit of something on his past in the MKD era but then he was just back to being the big bad again. It will be interesting to see how they bring him back.
Awesome
Voting for Shao Kahn over Jax.
