Maybe I'm the "odd gaymer out" lol but I just don't care to play as the female characters. The only ones I ever really played as were Sheeva or Sindel but it wasn't because I liked the idea of playing as a woman they just matched up well for me against characters I had a hard time beating. Sheeva could kill Khan easily back in the day.

I've also noticed MKO is far more international than the average internet message board, where most posters are from countries where English is their first language.

I wonder why that is.

At any rate, I'd suspect there's not nearly as many gays on other MK websites. Especially not the official boards at themortalkombat.com where as far as I'm aware there's not even any moderators and they can flame each other and be juvenile teenagers all they like.

Kung-Lao was attractive in Deadly Alliance but now they have made him plain. Jarek was sexy in MK4, that outfit was pretty hot, but of course they ruined whatever hotness he had by giving him that garbage outfit in Armageddon.

I dont really have one favourite, I just like tough women in heels kicking ass.
It's probably why I love the Resident Evil movies and Charlie's Angels movies.

When I used to play MK with my cousin he would be like "stop choosing characters just because you think they are pretty!"

LOL well I have been called that but I tend to have more "str8" hobbies although I hate saying it that way lol. I'm a HUGE NFL fan, I like a lot of sports in general and not just to check out the guys lol. Most people are surprised when I tell them because they always picture the stereotypical gay guy in their heads.

I just never got the "gay icon" thing about women so I never really got into picking them in fighting games. I think also the fact that they are so overly sexualized in games it makes it hard for me to take them seriously. I don't know any guys who play as the female characters either so it's surprising to me to see the people here that are so hard line about the female characters in MK.

Don't get me wrong I do like Madonna lol but I grew up listening to her with my older sisters so I was a fan before she became a "gay icon" but other than some comedians I don't really follow female singers or actresses nor do I care to play as a woman in a game.

Have Always loved Sindel. Its kind of Ironic actually, despite the fact that Im Gay, I have a thing for Powerful Women in some sort of Supreme Authoritative position in Video Games...(i.e.) Storm, Sindel, Lara Croft.

Her Characters Story and Abilities appeal to me.

Favorite Male Character has always been Ermac.

The theme of Redemption behind both of these Characters serves as another reason why they appeal to me.

Well I am straight, and a rare guy to I think; because fave character is

Sonya Blade, she has cool moves and I love her kicking moves.

But if I play other games

Tekken fave; Ling Xioyu or whatever and Christy. ( Kicking the shit out of everyone ) ( Movie Christy is smokin hot btw )

Street Fighter fave; Chun Li ( Love her ass kicking moves ) Movie versions also very hot

Power Rangers in the early years; Pink Ranger ( love aerodactales & Kim & Cat were hot )

I play as female characters always in videogames that give you a choice because

1. Id rather look at a woman when playing a game

2. I hate to be stereotypical but female characters to me just seem more badass because they are more vulnerable than males

That's not ironic at all. In fact, most of us gays prefer the women to the men in everything but the bedroom. Why do you think Cher, Diana Ross and Madonna all have such a long-lasting career? It's the gays that stick by their women.

Like Razor pointed out, MKO is the exception. The reason this topic can even exist is because there are mods here who actually enforce the rules. If this were the midway board or the official MK forums it would be over run by trolls.

So I have to say that MK is not a "Gay icon", it just happens that it, like I expect with most video games, has a following from both gay and straight people, we're just on a forum that lets us discuss it.

BTW: Street Fighter is also "big" with the gays.

I remember i was an AVID dinosaur enthusiast before pokemon, and as soon as pokemon came out, i didnt give a damn about dinosaurs. After about 5 years when i picked up a dino book again, i couldnt picture them w/out having them walking around saying their own names. Sad

I also don't find the MK women interesting, there's only 2 I really like, and those are Li Mei and Sareena, Nitara and Kira are cool too but the rest are like whatever.

But as said, the characters' sexualities aren't really important to a fighting game like Mortal Kombat. The only real love interest that's in the game is Kitana and Liu Kang, and that's spawned by the movies I believe.
Oh right, there's also the whole Johnny Cage and Sonya thing, but I believe that is pretty one-sided... And then there's Mileena and Baraka, but that's kinda a love/hate sadomasochistic relationship they got going on there... But all in all, MK was never a love story.

As to gay icons, I am a Kylie Minogue fan myself. ^^

Well I'm new here as well as a Gaymer lol Cute word nonetheless but my favorite character is Jade because she has cool moves and she's fierce as hell! I loved her ever since MK2 I was sad I couldn't play as her :( Her staff is so fitting for her I love how it glows purple some times I wish it glowed most the time! Also I love her costumes my favorite is her MK Deception Alt look with the pigtails! I also love her Girls Gone Wired ad she had!!! Damn she's so gorgeous and so pretty. I also find her story to be interesting and unique! I love her loyalty as well as attitude! I've always wanted her to be evil however!
