On a more serious note, gotta disagree that the storytelling in the DA opening is good. It's an effective summary, but the narration is terribly voice acted and there's no real action in it save the far-too-quick Liu/Shang fight. What makes the MKD opening the best is that it strikes all the right dramatic chords and has a beautifully choreographed fight scene. The only other scene in the series that's in the same league is the Shaolin Monks opening, but it has its own flaws.

It always pissed me off how quick that fight between Liu Kang & the Deadly Alliance was in the opening. So have been at least 2 minutes but that ending was just for shock value like most of the things NRS has done.

I don't mind the neck snap. I actually think the way Liu dies was really well done. It's pretty much the only moment in that intro that's worth watching, since everything else is just bland exposition. I mind that the whole fight was two kicks (or one kick with an instant replay?), a punch to the jaw, and then he's beaten by a single fireball to the back.
I get time and budget limitations, but I think there HAS to have been better, more visually spectacular ways to depict the series' main character's final battle. A quick montage of snapshots perhaps? Or gee, maybe they could have not wasted all their money on that Scorpion/Quan Chi fight from the commercial and Adema video?

I am not saying that MKDA opening was the best thing ever. It had it share of problems. CGI quality was one of them. Animation - was another. Never saw anything wrong with voice acting, though. It was good enough for me, especially after MK4. I could care less about action as long as opening served its purpose, which it did perfectly. It was awesome in setting right mood for the game and conveying sense of change.
MKD opening was much better from the technical point of view, but it was quite bad from storyline perspective. The same goes for MKSM, which, while technically awesome, messed up everything about MK1 and MK2 stories (Champion of the tournament Goro defeats Liu, but Liu still somehow becomes champion of the tournament because he defeated Shang? What?).

I've yet to stoop that low to be jealous of a person who obsessed with his own headcanon. You aremore like an annoying curiosity to me. But that's really how I treat most of the people.

I think it maybe had something to do with quality of the animation of the opening. It really...didn't look good, so they make attempt to cut battle between Liu and wizards as short as possible.

Well I honestly don't feel there was any kind of tonal shift in the switch from Tobias to Vogel...I'm not sure where it's coming from for you unless it's a subconscious effect of the switch from bluescreened actors to those goofy bulbous 3D models the PS2 era games used...
But honestly, for me, the game most similar to a cartoon was MK3, and Mythologies, 4, DA, and Deception all gradually brought things back more towards being like MK2.
Definitely agree with all of that.
Also, I like Onaga as a villain almost as much as Kahn, partly because of the way he was seeded into the lore ahead of time so well in DA, but mostly because of how epic the MKD opening cinema was. I still think that opening is the greatest cutscene in the history of the franchise. Certainly nothing in MK9 story mode comes close.

But to me, from DA onwards, stuff started feeling more like Masters of the Universe. I love Masters of the Universe, but I liked Asian Hell more. Basically, it's Cosmic vs Demonic. Skeletor Shao Kahn vs Occult Emporor of Hell and Master of Pain Shao Kahn. lolz

Awesome intro that sets up the plot, arcade ending that gives many truths about the future, but falsehoods as well so you weren't quite sure which ones were real. Plus the Konquest mode gave a lot of great story info of EACH fighter. Something none of the other games have done a good job with.

Mortal Kombat Deception is one of my favorite MK games of all time. I wish they would have continued with this story plot rather than Armageddon honestly.

There's nothing to interpret. It's the lore. That's how it actually is. It's not some random hints written as metaphors that is up for interpretation.

I paid excellent attention. If I didnt I likely wouldnt care to post on a site like this.
And I stand behind my "contrived" statement. The Kamidogu was such a video-game-plot-device that its literally laughable. At least MK3 had a moderately fun occulty resurection plot device to accomplish its impending peril.
@RedSumac, these are just my opinions. If ya dont agree, cool beans. But do keep your obtuse condescension to yourself. It makes you look mentally ill.

Mentally ill for pointing out obvious?
Oh, well...such is the sad state of the world this days...no, wait. It was always fucked up place full of inattentive people who proclaimed that their inability to concentrate and understand was fault of the authors who didn't make simplistic story for kindergardeners. Nothing changes. Nobody takes your opinion away. It's just opinion need a basis. When the basis of opinion is faulty - opinion is rotten. Such is a simple logic.

The one being was not about "everything is a dream" right? It was just like "In the beginning there was the elder gods and the one being. the one being was powerful so they split him into many parts." the end right? That would suck if it turned out everything was a dream.

Did you read the thread? Because there's concrete evidence to the contrary quoted from the games.
