I'd rather they save Li Mei for MK11, personally. I like her, and sure they COULD write a story that makes her relevant to the Shinnok plot...but every character you do that for makes less room for the characters who already HAVE a good reason to be involved in a Netherealm story like Ashrah, Drahmin, Reiko, Tanya, Sareena, etc.
So I guess that's a no for me.

Shinnok mentioned going after Outworld as well as Earthrealm.

I think this makes Li Mei quite relevant, as she would be among the first to step forward to protect her realm.

The logic's not wrong, but I just don't think the Outworld side of the invasion should waste time depicting the good aligned people of the realm, the innocent villagers, it should all be about taking this opportunity to show the VILLAINS of Outworld in a different light for once.

"How do Mileena and Baraka and the people ruling from Kahn's castle now that he's dead deal with Shinnok invading? Which ones side with him to save their own skins and which ones side with Team Raiden and become good guys for the first and possibly only time ever?" That's the direction I think MK10 should take.

There would be way more room for Li Mei to comfortably fit into a story that's not stuffed full of Hell characters and the return of a zombified MK9 roster, and is more able to address the little things about Outworld like daily life and different factions and politics, like DA and Deception were.

Having Li Mei in the game isn't going to eclipse all of the Outworld villains, if any.

It would be insensible to deny Li Mei her place in the game when we know what she'd do in such an event. In that sense, the story pretty much writes itself.

I'm going to say no.

Never cared for the character and in terms of gameplay she doesn't stand out. (Granted they would totally rethink her moveset and it certainly has potential to be interesting but I'd rather she was a DLC character.)

I'm not worried about her "outshining" anyone, I'm worried about roster space and cutscene screentime. We already saw in MK9 that they only have so much time to show and develop characters with and they're only ever going to use it on like half the roster, and it's only gonna be the half that fights with Raiden.
I will bet real money they ain't gonna change their stupid story mode format, and showing Li Mei's village and how she joins the fight, that's a chapter. A chapter that could instead go to the ONE chance we may ever have to make Reptile or Goro or anyone else who fought for Kahn in the last game more interesting.

Well...to be honest, it's that and the possibility that if you don't rehash the "she got tricked and merged with an evil thing and now she's struggling with its influence in her mind" parts of her story, she'd turn out to be the most boring heroine ever created.

Without the mummy, she's everything people accuse Liu Kang of being.

They're not going to devote a chapter to a villain, and they don't need to do so to develop a villain.

Mileena, Sektor, Sindel, Shang Tsung, Noob Saibot, Ermac, Quan Chi, and Kano all received good screen time in MK2011. Only Baraka, Reptile, and Sheeva were shown for the sake of battle.

What NRS needs to do is sort out time to other characters. It doesn't matter who gets added to the roster; Baraka and Reptile can still be neglected.

Besides, considering MK10 will follow MK4, Reptile's desire to return home may likely be explored. In fact, his death may even be repeated.

I disagree. Very, very much.

But I don't think anything's going to be solved by arguing this further, each of us has our minds made up, so you're welcome to your opinion.

How would you revamp Li Mei's movelist like Kenshi's?

That's actually a very interesting question.

Li Mei doesn't really have a unique moveset, so her inclusion MK10 will certainly bring her into a new light. From the looks of her special moves and fatalities, she fights with a great deal of speed and uses a lot of legwork. This could possibly be the basis of her moveset.

But what of her sparkling blast? Her moves can be like Jubilee's or Dazzler's.

Eh, I'd say that Li Mei has enough of her own distinct moves. Aside from using projectiles similar to the ones that Jubilee from X-Men uses, I see a lot of Li Mei's special attacks being nods to traditional Chinese martial arts techniques and stuff in Chinese martial arts movies. If I'm not mistaken, there were influences from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

I see her being more of a rushdown character since most of her specials are more about getting in than keeping opponents away from her. Sure, she has her projectile, but I don't really see her as being so zoning oriented. Maybe her projectile could be a means to set up for an opportunity to get in close to her opponents.

Another thing that could help is to give her weapon-based special attacks. I'm not entirely sure if giving her the Kunlun Jian (I know it's called "Kunlun Dao in the games but it looks like a jian.) is the way to go, but then again, it could be nice to use as a nod to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Perhaps she can be given a dao sword.

Like say a jian or a nandao.

Powers/Abilities:
- Sparkling blasts like Jubilee's & Dazzler's
- Kung Fu: Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon style
- Jian Dao sword

If anything, she's going to fight in a style native to Outworld.

It does seem fitting to have it such a way, as she is currently the only Outworld hero. I would say Bo' Rai Cho, but he fights more for Earthrealm.

I'm actually going to cast my vote for NO. Mainly because I don't want the events that lead to the creation of Li Mei to happen.

Also, Riyakou. There's something creepy about that woman in your sig, idk what.

It's probably the fact that she's a guy. lol

As for Li Mei, I'm not sure what you mean by the events leading to her creation. Are you referring to Deadly Alliance?

We don't know if Deadly Alliance will even happen yet, and personally I'm hoping it won't. Not that I didn't like Deadly Alliance- it was great. I just want something new.

I very much hope it doesn't occur as well, however I don't think it should keep certain characters from reappearing.

Honestly, I do believe after MK10 the series will venture into a new story, anyway.

Yeah, as much as I appreciated Deadly Alliance, I'm hoping that we don't see the story come back. Have something else happen.

Although it was my favorite Shang Tsung appearance.

Logically, they CAN'T do Deadly Alliance again, there's too many things from the game's plot that they specifically have prevented from mattering or happening in this timeline. It's almost like MK9 was deliberately designed specifically to target plotpoints from DA - not Deception or Armageddon, JUST DA, and eradicate them. (Which has a lot to do with why I hated 9 so bad, since DA was my favorite story)

I mean why would Quan and Shang even team up in a world where Quan can do EVERYTHING Shang can do, but better?

I have a feeling that the army of mummies will be seen again, but next time, Onaga will be the one to raise them, and he'll actually get to USE them.

Time for the next character, which is Liu Kang:

*Sigh* I'm getting kind of tired of Liu being the hero of this series. I understand completely who he is and such, but I just feel that he's so bland, so boring, even during the last game I really didn't enjoy him as much despite that they tried to give him a personality. I really hope that he just stays dead for the next game. I have a feeling though that he's going to return as the zombie again. I don't know, it's a gut feeling that I have, but I feel like he's going to return as the zombie character. Blah. I'd like to say no because I really don't want to have him in the next game, but it's a yes because he's gonna return no matter what.

No.

No.

No!

NO!

DAMN IT NO!

But seriously, I strongly feel it's time for this guy to step aside. He has been canonically killed two times already, and there are plenty of other heroes that can be explored, namely Kai.

So, yeah. It's a no.
