If he is playable in the game, it'd be interesting to see his intros with Kitana.

Also digging his new costume. Dare I say, I actually think he's showing more skin than any of the females in this game haha. Hopefully he has a nice looking face to go with his not at all bad body. I still imagine him as MKs Vega, really handsome but super narcissistic.

Btw I never understood why people fussed about Rain wearing purple. Back in the olden medieval days, a lot of royal people wore purple because it was the hardest color to create and it was always made with the finest quality. So only the most rich or royal could afford it. I thought that little tidbit of info fit with his whole "Prince" persona. He wears purple as a sign of royalty imo.

Not a lot people fuss about it now, but there are still those people who are like, "HERP DERP RAIN HAZ PURPLE, RAIN IS GAY DUMB AND A ****** TROLOLOL"

I think he's playable for a number of reasons, all of it circumstantial, but I have a gut feeling he's going to be playable.

-NRS doesn't waste time detailing NPC models, Sindel is a good example of this. His design is fundamentally similar to his MKA costume, but it's different in a lot of ways too. If they wanted to, they could have just retextured Rain's MK9 outfit and changed it slightly, but they went the extra mile to give him a detailed costume.

-All of NRS' promotional material for MK9 and Injustice never advertised characters that weren't playable, and if they're design seemed unique or detailed, they were always playable.

-Seems kind of like a big move for an NPC to dropkick such a main player in the story off a cliff.

-Boon has been tweeting Rain hints every once and a while, and albeit I didn't take it serious at all, assuming it was Boon's idea of a red herring. After seeing Rain in the game with a unique and detailed costume, the hint's seem to carry more weight, at least.

-He appears to have connections, or at least an allegiance to Mileena, and her other unique guards like Ermac, Erron Black, and Reptile are obviously going to be playable, so it would follow a consistent path for him to be too.

Ermac, Erron, and Reptile actually work for Kotal. At this point there are 0 people on Mileena's side playable. Which actually increases Rain's and possibly Baraka's chances.

Dont forget Reiko

That just dawned on me. So yeah, if he sides with Mileena, that would make for some interesting chemistry that would appear to be a waste if he was just a lowly NPC.

If he's still on Mileena's side. Really hope he's in regardless.



I agree. Also cameo characters don't kick emperors off of buildings. Plus I doubt they would bring him back from his death in the comics just to have him be a cameo. Assuming this takes place after that since he has a different costume.

We don't know how far in the story mode the dropkick scene took place, It could be BEFORE Kotal Kahn crispied him. After all Mileena and Reiko and Rain are allies from several years.

But he was born with the magic hes the sun god. Its a NATURAL ability. It isnt an artificat that he has that can be given to anyone to gain an advantage. Completely different scenarios. Thats like saying literally every character almost in tge whole universe cheats because they have natural abilities.

Not really. If it was his normal everyday ability, he would utilize it like Rain for example and just create meteorite blasts whenever he felt like it. In the end of the 7th issue he summoned the Gods or whatever, cut his chest to obtain this blood magic or whatever it is that wore him out immediately after the battle. So technically he had some help that boosted his ability.

The blood magic has nothing to do with his SUN ABILITIES. The blood thing just gives him rage fr fr. Its not look it summons him with some super crazy power. Even raiden acknowledged him as the sun god so obviously thise powers are his naturally. I didn't see him utlizing the blood at all or else he would have been red when he was fighting mileena. He was his yellow/golden color so he was using his natural sun ablities. Also i think the gods are only allowed to summon abilities from the gods since raiden has done it. ANYONE and their mother can use the amulet. Blanch can use it and become all powerful. Also the only reason it looks like the amulet is even powerful is because its possessed by SHINNOK A GOD. It would probably useless if raiden didnt suck him into it.

I wouldn't hate Rain being playable but until I see him in actual gameplay, I won't get my hopes up.

Having a water bender demigod is always cool, his story and background could be developed further.

I decided to take a closer look at Rain's costume from the trailer, break it down, and compare it to his costumes from MKA and MK9:

Starting with Rain's head, he's got his MKA ponytail back but his hair isn't as stylish as it was in the front. He has his purple mask, difficult to tell if it is a mask or a veil like it's previously been. From different perspectives from other people, it's a veil or a mask. The top part seems to form into something that resembles a crown and circles around to the back of his head.

With his chest, the purple sash now parts to his sides rather than make that V-shape that it usually does in previous games. He has a lot of skin exposed when he's previously been covered up mostly. He continues to have a gold plate over his chest with some crevasses in it, as well as a purple jewel in the center of it. Then there's a gold belt around his waist which has a purple jewel as well. His back is difficult to see, but it looks like it's fully clothed in purple.

With his arm, a lot of skin is exposed with a gold band around his biceps. He also has a gold armguard with purple jewels in them and he has lost the fingerless gloves that he has had before. It seems like there's something that runs up the back of his hand, but it may just be a shadow. Then he has golden plates over his shins rather than the purple straps from MKA or the purple leg guards from MK9, as well as golden steel toe boots.

I've seen a lot of people saying he looks too similar to his MKA outfit, when really just the ponytail is the only similar thing, and a bit of the mask/crown. Everything else with his MKX outfit is completely detailed differently from that costume and his MK9 one as well (yes, I've seen some people claim he looks similar to his MK9 outfit). Is this to say he's playable in MKX? I'd say so. At least in my own opinion, NRS wouldn't go out of their way creating such a different costume with that much detail for someone who's just going to be a cameo. Which I might add, a cameo that involves him fighting alongside Mileena against Kotal Kahn. But remember, this is just my opinion and thoughts about it. I know many others share a different view. I just wanted to share how different Rain's outfit in this is in comparison to his older outfits.

Rain getting any attention in a mortal kombat story is interesting I think this definitely is a first for him in the main story .

Thinking back to his debut appearance in UMK3`s attract mode, comboing Kahn in the Lost portal, this Rain teaser is a nice throwback.

Both in taking on a Kahn, and reverse of his death in Annihillation.
