People only really seem to think Smoke is homosexual based on them liking his redesign in MK2011 and wanting to ship him with Sub-Zero. There are other characters who I'd get the impression were gay or bisexual before Smoke.

Like Kahn, I never felt that he took Sindel for anything other than political reasons.

His stance and fighting style seemed like typical martial arts stuff to me.

Also that run made it seem like he had to go to the bathroom for several hours since the Invasion started and didn't have the chance.

But yeah Kahn never seemed to give any indication either way as to what he liked. He kinda ignored the slave girls in his Collosseum. Though his half naked appearance never made me think he was gay either. Maybe he just doesn't ever think about it either way, isn't he part of the same race of beings as Raiden according to people from Chaosrealm?

Jokes aside, that was also my impression of Kahn...he just doesn't give a spear. Too busy with complete realms domination to care about trivial things, like sexual innuendos. That's so...for mortals

Kung Jin's past segment was a nice scene. I like how Raiden was basically "it doesn't matter"

And people wonder why Raiden snaps. He prevents Armageddon, he's accepting of everyone, tries his best to help the human race, and he gets shit on by people constantly.

Honestly Raiden was written very well in MKX. When he was talking to Bo i was fanboying out lolol fuck i wish we could of had more of that.

As dull as I find Kung Jin, I do have to congratulate NRS/Writers on how subtle and non-in your face it was. I don't like him that much (so far) but he's up there with that guy from Last of Us in gay characters that were done tastefully.

I still find Kung Jin boring and dull but then again I guess that comes with the territory when you're Shaolin.

Exactly. Its not about having a game full of gays or blacks. It's about diversity, which whether you like it or not, is FINALLY becoming a thing these days. It should have been a thing a long time ago.

When ingesting a piece of fun, fictional art, the piece is that much more interesting when the consumer can identify a relatable character, whether that relation stems from gender, race, sexuality, ideology, etc.

To answer your question, it's important to showcase a diverse cast in a game like MK thats continually attracts a large about of diverse players. I don't have any stats to back up that last statement, but there was always a "Brazil" and "Gay" room in MK9 online, and I saw the exact same rooms yesterday on Day 1 for MKX. Did you notice how colorful the FATAL8 was? Plus, it only makes sense to highlight a range of different people in a fantastical game that already heavily explores different nationalities, geographies, ideologies, and archetypes to no end. Why should those explorations result in characters that all look, act and think the same?
