Possible homosexual character?? *STORY SPOILER-ISH*
I was playing Story Mode and in Kung Jin's chapter Raiden tells him to join the Shaolin. Jin mentions that he can't because they won't accept. Raiden says "They care only about what is in your heart, not whom your heart desires."
Now my initial reaction as a gaymer was OMG! A gay character! They won't accept him because his heart desires other men! lol but after seeing his ending he could very well have been talking about the Shaolin not accepting Kung Loa, or maybe a bit of both. I know Mileena isn't exactly anyone's type but in their pre-fight chat Jin says that she's "not my type," which could also be a hint towards his sexuality.
I will probably get a lot of negative comments just for starting this thread but this is a serious question I wanted to ask you guys. Did anyone else have this thought or was it just me? :) I'm happy to carry on believing that this was a nudge for us gaymers out there even if no one else agrees, which I'm guessing a lot won't! lol
P.S. I know it's only a fighting game so no need to tell me that! ;)

Considering they were trying to ship him and Cassie throughout storymode I highly doubt he's gay. Cassie might be the one his heart desires.

We've been through this a few times and yes it would appear he is indeed gay. Which is actually pretty neat because he's not he stereotypical gay guy. But it would explain why he's so shady lol

I'll legitimately respond to your question..
I got the feeling that it may have been NRS's attempt to feel the waters and see how people might react to it.. They left it very open and vague though (probably purposefully) so they could take it in many ways. Personally I don't care if there is a gay character... I also don't care if a character is straight. I don't need Sub-Zero to all of a sudden start talking about he likes women.. or visa versa... If you are a Gaymer though, I can see how it would appeal to you to have a gay character in the game..

Oh sorry didn't realise it had been discussed before! I tried having a quick look but couldn't see anything. That's great news then if he is lol
After that cut scene I tried to see if there was any obvious hints of him and Cassie getting it on but I wasn't seeing it.

Thanks :) ye I know what you mean. I just assume everyone is straight so even if it's just a hint that a character could be gay then, personally, it's very satisfying as a gaymer to get a nod from the developers. Just a bit of acknowledgement to their fan base is a nice plus, and helps show that not all fighters are straight :P
I thought he might be gay, and he still might be, but I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned that the Shaolin don't let you marry or whatever, so it might be that he loved someone in general.
But seeing the social push MK has been making lately he's probably gay.

Shaolin could find relationships in general to be distracting but Liu never seemed too beat up over finding Kitana attractive, though he did turn her down to protect Earthrealm.
The line about "self-loathing" in combination with what Raiden said about whom Jin's heart desires was what made me think Jin was homosexual, since some homosexuals I've talked to said they felt ashamed of it due to obvious societal reasons.

I think he is. I think they left it ambiguous enough for homophobes not to kick up a fuss. And to be honest I think that's all it needed, that little hint. It gives us diversity without being in your face about it - good call NRS!
And in terms of him and Cassie being 'shipped', I've not finished story mode yet but it seems more like a rivalry so far.

I thought all of them were being shipped when they were in the holding cells of that boat.

This. I fucking hate when people see two people arguing or butting heads and immediately think "they should make out."
Rivalries happen, people don't get along. it doesn't mean they're dying to fuck.

You can blame the first two people to ever hatefuck for that.
Seriously though didn't people just make that up about Cassie and Jin way before we even saw any story footage? I remember hearing it for a while with no basis.

No he's not gay. The end of story mode tells all.
Whenever you join a group that depends on your lifetime commitment your heart must be in the right spot.

I was wondering what Raiden meant by that. Also to those thinking he likes Cassie, bisexuality is also a possibility.

This was exactly my thinking when he said that. Not so much that Jin was ashamed but more that they couldn't accept him for who he is.
Zero_Jade I agree. Just the little hint was all it needed to help explain his character without being too in your face and upsetting the homophobes ;)

I think it was less to upset the homophobes and more that they actually put effort into making the dialogue natural and not in your face or trying too hard to shove it in your face. If Jin is supposed to be gay then this is the one example in recent media where I feel like they actually revealed it in a well written way.
