I've been wondering the alignment of D'Vorah for the longest, she looks and sounds evil, but that might just be how she seems because of her race.

Can anybody make out what's being said between her and Cassie? Here.

All I can make out is Cassie teasing her, calling her maggot mouth.

Wish I were interested in any of these new characters. The only reason I even partly like Kotal Kahn is due to the fact that he has Shao Kahns power kick.

Maybe they're related or something.

Otherwise I'm uninterested. These characters don't look like they belong in MK or any of it's realms at all.

I know what you mean, I got that vibe in the early screens of him too, like a sleezy waiter stauche tongue. Maybe they'll tweak it a bit to be more distinctly a piercing.

I still think he looks badass and look foward to trying him out.

Kotal Kahn has that slasher genre "fast walk" going on which I really think is awesome. You know how people can be running like terrorized olympic sprinters yet Jason / Michael Myers keep up by just walking forward.

He's real badass, he doesn't even need a fancy pose for a fighting stance.

I feel like this thread should be stickied or whatever so that we don't have so many threads about the new characters flooding everything. Such topics can easily be discussed in here since this is, after all, a thread to discuss these guys (as well as other new characters that get added in).

So yeah?

Yoooooo I thought exactly the same thing about his walk! Lol EDIT: Since I'm on here, my favorite newbie out of the 4 is Ferra/Torr hands down! So now Ed Boon and I have 2 things in common: Scorpion and Ferra/Torr! Maybe I'm destined to meet this guy. Of course my favorite newbie ours always subject to change if someone more awesome comes along though.

I'm thinking Kotal Kahn may tie into the past revelations that Shao Kahn was a Raiden-like Protector of Outworld prior to poisoning Onaga and claiming his throne as emperor.

I don't think they'd be direct relatives in the sense that's been suggested often on the forums. If the name Kahn is indeed a title, they may simply have shared similar ranks in the godly hierarchy. Perhaps a "Kahn" is a God of War? We don't know for sure that Shao Kahn's powers as Emperor of Outworld are similar to those he bore as the realm's Protector, but it is fairly likely. Shao Kahn being a former God of War would also explain the trust and respect Onaga seems to have had for him, being a conqueror himself and likely seeking consul from a sympathetic god.

There may be another reason they share that name. If I recall correctly, it was Raiden's ending in MK9 that featured the Elder Gods, with one appearing very similar in design to Kotal Kahn. Assuming that that is indeed him, I wonder if "Kahn" could be a name for a fallen god turned conqueror. This is less likely to the previous idea to me.

My thoughts are, either way, that Kotal Kahn is not likely to be a particularly altruistic or positive force like Raiden or Fujin. He is depicted drinking the blood of his enemies, and since it's unlikely that he is a vampire, that sort of reveling in death just strikes me as reflecting an evil disposition - even in Mortal Kombat.
If the game in any way concerns Shinnok's rise in Mortal Kombat 4 and the fallout of that, I'm going to venture a guess that Kotal Kahn abandoned his position in godhood to join Shinnok's second uprising. I always thought it was unlikely that the first war against Shinnok would've featured him as a lone Elder God against the entirety of the rest of his pantheon and some lower-level gods as well. Chances are that, assuming he WAS alone the first time, he'll have tried to bring others to his side the second time around.

Kotal being some kind of Elder or Outworld god would be so strange to me. He's clearly Aztec inspired in look and gameplay, how can he not be connected to Earthrealm? You know?

The vampires and some Outworld characters have characters in Asian languages on their clothing and bodies, and take clear influence from cultures in Earthrealm. There are no real limitations on where the character can be from in order to take inspiration from Earthrealm cultures.

I think being ambiguously Asian and blatantly Aztec is different. You can't really pinpoint where a Shang Tsung or a Li Mei comes from outside of the fact that they're vaguely Asian in name and design but Kotal looks like an Apocalypto extra.

I really love the look of Ferra/Torr. I wonder if Ferra suffers from the same condition as Esther from the movie Orphan. Maybe she's a nasty little madame and uses her childlike appearance to trick her enemies into thinking she is helpless before ruthlessly dispatching them. The way she treats Torr in one of their variations makes me think he's her bodyguard by force. Although I also wondered if perhaps they share a 'soul' of sorts which makes her dependant on him and vice versa. So that if he dies, she does also. So many possibilities involving their story, can't wait to find out.

"Introducing Kotal Kahn!
A new Kombatant in ‪#‎MKX‬.
Offer yourself to the War God!"

From the MK Facebook page.. I doubt a war god would be from Earthrealm. My first guess would be Outworld...

If rumors are to be believed about his connection to Shinnok, could he be a NetherRealm deity?

I don't know about that, we got alot of war going on in our world. Kotal Kahn could easily be a god of Earthrealm.

Why? We fight, we have wars. That said Earthrealm already has a lot of gods with Raiden, Fujin, and all the other elemental gods.

I think we have enough Earthrealm gods, one of which has barely had a chance to accomplish anything.

More importantly, I think he'd be more interesting to help us get an understanding of the pantheon of another realm. Also a place like Outworld has had wars that devastated many realms would be a more suitable home to a war god, i think.

But the war god clashing with the thunder god about Earthrealm affairs could be interesting too.

I have a feeling that Kotal is Shao Kahn's father,

there has always been talk of Kahn being half god so Kotal could very well be his father

What better father could Shao Kahn have then a WAR GOD?

just my 2 cents but I think with Johnny and Sonya having relatives in this game (Cassie) and boon mentioning that some of the newer characters in this game would be related to existing Kombatants that its very well possible for Kotal to be related to Shao

If he is his father, I would have seen him as the big bad boss.

So I don't think they are related.

So, I really haven't seen a lot of people discuss this, and I thought it would be better off in this thread but, what DO you think the newer characters have, story-wise, with this game?

Like, what do you think D'Vorah is and why is she here? What's the deal with Kotal Kahn? How did Kerra and Torr come to be about? How does Cassie play a role other than being a daughter of two Earthrealm heroes?

Granted that this will be answered in the future (when, we'll never know), but it's not hard to guess what purpose they have in this game. I say let's give it a shot and see where we go from here?

Kotal and FerraTor is who I'm most interested in story wise. They seem kind of plain to be big BIG players, to me they seem like they might serve a more Baraka/Kano kind of role in the story. A kind of lesser baddie. Really I'm interested if they come from Outworld or somewhere else.

Same with Kotal Kahn. The Kahn part is obvious, you're mind immediately goes to Shao but maybe that's too simple. He has a similar blueish skin tint as Shinnok so maybe an elder god? But then why the Kahn because Shao Kahn was never an elder god I don't think.

I'm not really concerned about D'Vorah story wise.
