See that may be just as bad though because Sonya and Johnny have never really been established to have different powers besides what Cassie has displayed.
What will Sonya have? Pink energy?
Johnny could have his Seido shit I guess, but still the green animations are with Cassie. Plus Cassie has that cocky ass attitude. I mean she is female Johnny Cage she really is.
That's why I was actually more in favor of Sonya coming back than Johnny if it was an either/or because while Sonya and Cassie may favor in appearance, Cassie also has Johnny's green animations and Johnny's attitude. She is the female equivalent to Johnny Cage. She even wears the sunglasses like him in one variation.
I just don't think they are different enough characters to include.

Well good thing you're not developing the game, because the people that's working on the game, clearly can come up with good, fresh ideas that go well with both of them, in case the info on the article is true.

Razor, Jaded, Icebaby, Viser, Quakeman, and that's just a few. You piss everybody off.
I made one simple statement about Sub-Zero and the rest was about Kano and Cassie being the same as Johnny/Sonya. Yet, you choose to point out the one statement I made about Sub-Zero. Why? Because you're like that. You like to start shit and that's why nobody likes you.

That's pretty nice, having it come full circle.
This argument about how we can't have two characters to have similar moves is silly. We've had multiple characters have similar moves before, why must this game be different?
So Cassie has a combination of her parents' move, yet her parents can't keep their moves that they have had longer? They're all going to be playing differently, if Cassie and Johnny both do the nut punch doing the splits, obviously you can have one do something different than what the other does.
I mean, why would the teacher ditch their own move because the student is performing it as well? Wouldn't that seem a tad bit dumb?
They'll play differently, doesn't matter if there's similarities between the two. They can play differently, and they have been doing that for quite some time now.

Especially if they get variations where they get new moves, which is what the article says.

Exactly! This is THE game to give them newer moves, since there's a heck of a lot more to work with. There's no excuse not to give Johnny and Sonya new abilities. Not a single excuse.

Didn't Sonya get the Kiss Of Death, which happens to be one of her signature moves, in MKDA? Yes, the game where she didn't have any of her classic moves. Johnny Cage, and Sonya, still have room to grow in the special moves apartment. Especially in their older/aged versions.
Nobody who plays and understands Street Fighter complains about all the shotos having a hadouken, a shoryuken and a hurricane kick because they all happen to have different fighting styles and differences, i assume, and hope, it's the case with Johnny Cage, Cassie, and Sonya, if all 3 make it in.

My point is do you really want Sonya and Johnny in over the rest of the MK9 cast when you have Cassie? Because that's what this is now. It's a numbers game and those numbers for returning characters are dwindling considerably.
I would much rather see
Kitana, Noob Saibot, Ermac, Reptile, Kung Lao, Rain, Mileena, Kenshi, Skarlet, Jade, Shang Tsung hell the list goes on
than see
Johnny and Sonya take up two more spots over any of them when we already have Cassie. I'm sorry but that just does not seem right to me.
I get that opinion pisses people off, but whatever. Also fans of all of those characters up there know that Kano has now taken one of their spots. If that doesn't piss you off slightly then Idk what will.
11 is the number from Deadly alliance. So 12 new characters at least.
Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, and Kano have been confirmed.
Assume there's a match to MK9 of 28 characters upon launch. That's 16 down now. Then assume Liu Kang, Sonya, and Johnny take up 3 more spots. Quan Chi could be the MK4 character. That would be 20.
That's 20 characters which leaves us 8 characters left from not only MK9, but also MK4 and beyond. Still think Johnny and Sonya need to be using two spots?
Sidenote:
Personally whoever said Rain is more bland than Kano is just ignorant. A demi-god who can manipulate water and weather vs. A mercenary who uses knives and eye lasers? Yeah I'm going with the Demi God.

Personally i find Rain to be extremely bland, as i never cared for gods, and aliens, and whatever. At this point you're just playing an opinions game. You got your favorite character, and a bunch of new characters to try out, so why do 2 or 3 characters bother you that much? i highly doubt you're going to play with the whole roster, but if you do, more power to you, i'm sure the developers will make them different enough from each other and unique and fun. Kitana, Noob, Ermac, Kung Lao, etc are all very popular and may be in the game, and in case they aren't, it's not because Sonya and Cage are in the game, do you really think it works like that? If they're not in the game, it's because they were never planned to be in and would never.

Can we stop with the whole "X character is taking up space" bullshit. The roster is most likely decided during pre-production. Which is before they actually start working on the game.
They're not just thinking of characters to throw in on the spot.

To be fair, it wasn't really Cage's specials that separated him from the cast. It was his unique rushdown. I would argue Cage is funnest character to play in the history of fighting games. I'd go as far as to say that he may be the only character who will go unaffected by the removal of the dash cancel.
In other words, I don't think green ball, shadow kick, or flip kick when I think Cage: I think F+3, B+3, and standing 1&2 when I think Cage.
As for Sonya... well, this is how I see it. Sonya has to be different in this game NO MATTER WHAT because her gameplay design in MK9 didn't make any damn sense. She had a divekick, a fireball, and a safe combo-starting cartwheel... with armor... and a safe 50/50... and one of the best D+4's in the game. Dude, fuck that bullshit character, lol.

Bingo!!
And if Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade are playable, you can bet that was a decision they made before thinking of Cassie, especially considering the story would revolve around them.

This is an interesting statement, because previous games in the series have done exactly that. They would start working on the game and randomly change/add/remove characters in the middle of development for seemingly no reason. There's a lot of well documented stuff to support this.
Granted, Netherrealm is run in a much more organized and consistent manner than Midway ever was, but keep in the mind these same people have previously thought of characters to throw in on the spot.

Seen your jokes still suck and you still have the same tired ass insults and arguments. That's what you are Sumac. Tired. Maybe you need a nap?
@ Directhit.
Yes, I have my favorite character. No, it won't be the only one I play as. I love Jade, Rain, Noob Saibot. and Li Mei. I want to play as them all and I know that they have slim chances.
I'm fine with that. However, what I'm not fine with is having them all sit out because We have to have Johnny, Sonya, and Cassie in the game.
People argue about Sindel, Kitana, and Mileena. That shit is not the same and they know it. Sindel has Screams and her hair whip. Kitana has her fans and fan lifts. Mileena has her sais and bloodthirsty carnivorous shit going on.
They are all three different enough to make into different characters. Johnny and Sonya are too, but the difference is they have already shown portions of shit that Johnny and Sonya have IN THEIR DAUGHTER.
Which means that their movesets of the past have already been dwindled considerably. So take away half of their moves already and then you only have half left. Will that half even be enough to fill a variation? Then on top of that make two more variations uniquely different to BOTH of them.
Unless you add moves to them considerably then they can't be that much different. I mean they will have to pull something out of their asses and say Sonya received some cosmic powers or some shit to even make her have a moveset considerably different.
Basically, I want Jade and Noob Saibot over Sonya and Johnny Cage.
It is opinion, but that's what all of this is anyway.
The only facts we have are that the number of roster spots is already starting to dwindle for classic characters.

Even if that was the case for MKX, Johnny and Sonya being playable was planned from the start, if not thought out since MK9, hence them surviving, and MKX's storyline revolving around them, so they're not taking anyone's spot.

There's the number 3 that I was searching for.
3. When Raiden was revealed Boon was asked if Raiden would be the main character again, and he said No, that there wouldn't really be a central character.
This magazine article is giving a lot of contradictions to things that Boon has already revealed.

So WHY are you obsessing and seething over something that may be wrong, and is not confirmed? That is the question.
Haven't logged on this site since 2010 (can't believe I remembered the password) but this thread urged me to respond about certain things, namely Kano.
First: I actually fist pumped the air and let out a welp of joy when I saw the headline on the front page (and I'm a VERY quiet guy.) Kano is my favorite fighter, not just for MK, but all fighters in general. Seeing those blurred pictures, I absolutely love his new look, precisely because it's simple. Kano is known to only use his trusty knives, he doesn't need to lug around pointless shit.
I also love the fact one of his styles is wrestling, as Kano has always struck me as a "take 'em down, break his neck" type.
Now, another reason why I wanted to respond was because of all this "Kano has no fans" horseshit. I get it that everyone's tastes are different, but to outright state that a character doesn't have his/her fair share of lovers is downright ignorant, especially an original classic.
Yes. Classic. I don't know where all this "Kano only gets a free pass because he was one of the original seven" crap came from, but it's flat-out moronic. I'm unaware how much Kano is liked or loathed here, but out of the confines of this site, Kano is considered an icon.
Wreck-it Ralph? Cameo in Batman ios game? The first name that comes up regarding heart-related incidents? Can you name another Aussie gaming character that has lasted over 20 years and still kickin'?
So yes. Kano, like your Scorpions and Sub-Zeros, does have a big fan following. I would say that this'll most likely be Kano's send off, but as we all (should) know, Death in Mortal Kombat is like a Ric Flair retirement: it doesn't last.

First: I actually fist pumped the air and let out a welp of joy when I saw the headline on the front page (and I'm a VERY quiet guy.) That's what i'm saying, MKO is obsessed with male ninjas with storylines as relevant/irrelevant as Kano's (such as Ermac, or Rain) but that doesn't mean that Kano doesn't have fans. Especially among casual players, he is very recognizable to them thanks to his eye and his heart rip fatality, hence his cameos.

Because he is an obsessed immature closeminded kid, who thinks that he is always in the right and everything that's not tailored for him is shit.
In other words Scar_Subby acts like a typical unpleasable fanboy. There is not really much logic you can find in his responses.

I like this idea because it takes his story in a fresh new direction, seeking tech to prolong his life
