Well it's kind of a transitional period for MK. Jax and Jacqui, Kenshi and Takeda, Cassie, Sonya, and Johnny are the only kind of iffy roster choices but NRS has been kind enough to ease us into the next generation. This is probably the last hurrah for a lot of the characters that have family in this game. NRS are letting some of their sacred cow big guns go out with a bang. I think its pretty cool of them tbh.

If MK11 rolls around and its more family reunions then yeah maybe we can talk about the roster but until then I think they've done a pretty good job.

More than anything I think fans need to adjust their expectations. We know death doesn't have much meaning in MK so don't expect the dead to stay dead. Don't expect to not see Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kitana, Mileena, and Raiden etc etc.

Post Trilogy characters don't sell games. They just don't, and more than likely never will.

WB is looking for units sold. That's all that matters to them. How do you sell the most units? Appeal to the largest number of people by including the most popular/recognizable characters. I don't know why that is so hard for people to understand and accept.

A good chunk of the roster will, and should include familiar faces. People clamoring for a roster that is made up of new and more obscure characters don't see the big picture i.e. YOU'RE IN THE MINORITY. NRS should never kowtow to a small group of people just because they may be raging the loudest. Why alienate a large group of people to satisfy a smaller one?

Same. People tend to forget that an entire generation now has grown up with that era of games. They weren't around for Trilogy, they weren't around for the TV shows or the movies, they weren't around for essentially the "glory days," the 3D era and its characters IS Mortal Kombat to them.

Okay, then I submit this to you;

"Those people" are just as much fans as you & I. Because they grew up and admire a different generation of the franchise than we do doesn't make them any less of anything.

I'm a fan of James Bond. The franchise has been around for 50+ years, I wasn't around for its glory days in the 60s with Goldfinger, Thunderball and the Sean Connery era of the spy craze in cinema history. Does that automatically mean that because I grew up with the Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig era that my views on the franchise are any less legitimate than those who were growing up in the 60s? No. I own all the movies on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray, all 40+ novels, a poster for all 23 films in the franchise, collectibles...you name it, I own it. I'm a fan, thus my views and concerns are just are legitimate as anyone else's.

And yes, I grew up playing the Trilogy games. The first game I touched was MK1 at around the age of 3-5 years old. I can honestly tell you that if NRS did what they did with Stryker in MK9 where they took a universally hated character and made him great, what they're doing now with Shinnok in MKX, then yes, not all of the 3D era but a good sized chunk of them could go toe-to-toe with the Trilogy era.

If they took Bo' Rai Cho, took away all the puke/fart specials, gave him a permanent drunken stance, gave him some specials that dealt with his Jojutsu weapon, some sumo moves since he's fatter than most like the Earthquake move where he stomps on the ground, maybe spill some of his liquor that would act as a way to make your opponent slip and be open to an attack for 1 to 2 seconds and really played up the master martial artist angle then yes, he would be a worthwhile character while still keeping the original essence alive.

The same could go for quite a few of the 3D era. If they put the work in, the same amount of work they did with re-inventing the characters for the 3 variation system, then yes, they could do it as well for these guys. Now the problem here I think is that people expect a lot of us who like these characters to want a lot of them back at once. No, that's unrealistic. But bringing them in in the main roster or as DLC 3-5 at a time is not asking too much and still leaves plenty, and I mean plenty, of room for the originals and newer characters. I personally wanted 1 character from each game that was not in MK9, so 1 besides Kenshi and a Deception character. That's all I was hoping for was 2 extra 3D characters. Was that asking too much?

Don't know if you're aware, but request for Tremor goes as back as Mortal kombat armageddon. It took that and three more MK games to finally see Tremor playable.

1) In the other thread, because you disagreed with my opinion, you insulted my profession as well as my intelligence, that is personal attacks.

There is no quota in DLC for obscure characters, Ed did it because he thought it was hilarious he was getting spammed and there was a petition floating around, that's why and that's all there is to it.



As for that, the kast wasn't the only element. The 2D plane, the throwback feel, the revamped engine and the marketing all had roles to play in the success of that game. The best bet is that MKX will be just as successful and features several 3D characters as well as newbies, so you're right, money will talk, money has talked. Armageddon sold like ass and yet still had the entire Trilogy roster in it. If that kast was the biggest selling point, then I guess people didn't know that game released.

1. not according to the sales figures of DA-A. Those were pretty solid installments by themselves.

2. WB does not exercise that much creative control. NRS is not Vince Russo and WB is not Hulk Hogan.



Imo it is not as much the characters themselves, but the overall distribution of the characters that bugs me: too many quasi-hi-tech-soldier characters. And while I do not harp on Jacqui being a Jax clone (does not look like one) they DO however represent the same archetypical character with not much difference. Given how the others also are in this group....

Jaqui, Jax, Sonya, Cassie, Kano are military characters. Cage, Takeda bears reduced similarity, but have elements of military characters.. It is a more subversive plastique ninja problem.

While the characters on themselves stand solid, the voerall construction of the roster is fairly domninated by this.

On a personal note: while there are lampions and chinese neon ads in the ruined cityscape, where the fuck is the original conceptual idea going? Where is the Asian stuff?

if Fujin was in and not let's choose Kung Lao you only have 1 guy to play the entire game you want to spend 50-150 bucks for a game just to play 1 character that would be extremely boring.

NRS put the popular people in the game cause they know there are tons of more people happy to see Reptile, Liu Kang, Kitana then seeing Sareena, Havik, Drahmin so just bitch and moan don't buy the game and watch everything on the forums or youtube of the challenge towers, storymode and gameplay while you wait for your ideal game
