I dislike human Smoke and always have. He looks lame as heck in MK9. Frustrating to play against, and I've never used him much beyond his chapter in story mode. Sektor has always been cool, though Cyrax is my favourite.

Sektor and Cyrax for MK10. Smoke can sit out.

I'm with ya here Ninja_Mime. I'm not a fan of the words human and smoke going together especially because most of the time they lead to the words cyber and sub-zero being put together. Also, just in general though I feel human smoke is boring as a character, and NRS has proved time and again they don't know what to do with him. He still ended up the sidekick this time in storymode, nothing really changed there.

I felt that they could have done more with human smoke though, especially since Sub-Zero had to bite a bullet for him. He got girly hair, had a hothead personality it appeared, and it's so irritating seeing so many of them online. MY GOD how many there are online, it's ridiculous. The spamming of Smoke bombs is awful because although I find ways to get around it, it just makes the match drag on so much longer. I hate it honestly.

So, my vote's going to Sektor. I told everyone Smoke would blow Sektor out of the water though. That dude has got a serious fanbase, and I never have understood why really.

Which is funny, because I prefer Human Smoke and Cyborg Sub-Zero over their other versions. Preferences make the individuals.

True dat. Everyone's got their preferences.

The thing is though, I could be completely fine with Human Smoke. He wouldn't bother me at all. Apparently NRS doesn't understand that they can both be human though, so if one of them is cyber my vote goes to Smoke. He made a much better cyborg in my opinion. Like you said it all goes down to preference though.

Human, Cyber, demonic....it ...don't...matter. He's the man.

He came out of this game with a playstyle all his own, able to stand with the best of them. Story didn't do him any favors, but his new bio and ending made him into more of a character, less of a Sub-Zero plot device. And I loved his main outfit. The hair kicks ass; I stand by that.

Don't get me wrong, Sektor came out of this game wonderful. Great to learn of his parentage, and see his human form. But MK9 wasn't a game-changer for him like it was for my main man. This game took my favorite character and AMPED him. He's a brand new character.

Hell and holy yes I vote Smoke. As if anyone expected me to do different.

I'm really curious as to how Cyrax vs. Smoke will turn out. While I played devil's advocate for Sektor this time, I will vote for Cyrax because I truly like him better. I've always really liked Cyrax despite his story lacking direction. I'm thinking that will be the true 50/50 vote.

I think the love is strong with Smoke. At MKO he's probably one of the most popular characters so I doubt he beats Cyrax.

Yea, I said that earlier. Smoke, for one reason or the other, has a huge fanbase. I don't know why.

Not that I'm knocking him everyone, but can Smoke fans please explain to me what draws you to him? I mean he seems to have risen in the ranks of popular characters over the years. I would say probably a top 8 if not higher than that in terms of popularity.

I've never understood it with him though because quite frankly storywise, he never has been that great. Until MK9 he never had a really solid moveset. Aesthetically he always just came across as the most boring pallet swap to me because he was just grey ninja. That's why when they automated him, I didn't really care because I thought it added a little spice to him. That REALLY pissed some fans off though and made Smoke's popularity skyrocket despite him never being playable as human. Seriously though he's got a huge fanbase. Like I said, not knocking him I would just like some of his fans to really explain what is so great about him to you.

I explained my reason to like him in my post above, but I can try and give a few pointers to why I think he's generally a well-liked character with a big fanbase.

- He was a secret character in MK2 which added some cool-factor and mystery about him.
- His element isn't common, like fire or ice.
- He's a secret, but unlockable character in MK3, this time a cyborg though.
- His story is linked to one of the more popular characters, Sub-Zero.
- He returned in a cool tag team with Noob in MKD.
- His moves finally included his smoke powers in MKD and moreso in MKA.
- I personally think his elemental (human) outfit in MKD-MKA looked awesome.

But if I was ever a fan of Smoke, it would only be because of his most recent appearance in the newest Mortal Kombat. His looks, his moves and his story is well-presented in this game and I like his newly obtained origin as well.

That's cool Jaded. He's not really one of your absolute favorites though is he? I was kind of wanting some of the hardcore Smoke fans to answer, but you came up with some good points yourself.

I'll say this why I though Smoke was interesting toward the end of the last timeline, and why I thought if Armageddon occurred he should be one of the one's who survived.

It's all because of Ashrah's MK:D ending. That's where I started not just liking Cyber Smoke, but loving him. Ashrah sensed that Noob Saibot was very evil and that he had to earn his spot in the netherrealm, whereas she sensed that some good was still in the cyborg.

It was like the continued internal struggle that he had which was just epic to me, and I really loved it. I thought that he would eventually break free of Noob and escape from the Netherrealm finally becoming a person again. Especially since he was already in Smoke form again anyway. He wasn't even cyber. I just loved that through everything, even the corruption of the netherrealm a sense of good still hung on to him.

Even in Sub-Zero's MK:D ending it said something like Smoke knew Sub-Zero was his friend still or something. I just loved that even though he was in a realm of evil, and one of the MOST evil people had come in control of him, he still fought for that humanity. I always felt it would have been awesome for him to finally escape and become his own person.

Then we went back in time and now all of that is gone, and we have cyber subby. Booo on that.lol.

I felt that Smoke had an awesome story in the old timeline despite sitting in a dungeon for years. That seems to be the argument most people bring to the table against him in the old timeline, but really that added to his tragedy. Which I was hoping would lead to his ultimate triumph, but it never came to be. That's why cyber smoke is so great to me. He's my favorite cyborg. Like I said I'm fine with him being human though, because technically he's not my favorite character so I don't think I should have a say of what form he's in.

Like Sub-Zero, if someone isn't a fan of his character then I don't think they should get an ultimate say of what form he is in. It's clear the majority of his fans don't like him being cyber, but it's the non fans who think it's okay to just change him willy nilly and that's really not fair because most of those fans have another character that they're a fan of.

Also that's why I don't like Cyber Subz being given Smoke's story. Smoke's story in the old timeline was already good on Smoke, now it appears Sub-Zero just switched fates with Smoke and now they're both dead. Really I just felt it was a bad changeup. If anything both should have been left human, and alive. Like most of the characters because Boon has already said like twice now that we will be seeing all of our favorite characters again. Well, what the hell was the point of killing them then

He's my favourite male character in the newest game.
I am glad you didn't completely disregard my points though, just because I might not be a "hardcore" Smoke fan, as it's not like I am totally oblivious of all other characters and their fanbases than my number 1 favourite.

That would be the same if you made an opinion and had some good points about Jade, but I wouldn't count it for anything as you aren't a "hardcore" fan, and thus your words aren't worth anything.

@ Jaded-Raven

No, I still count your points as vaild. I understand you do like him.

I just hope you get where I'm coming from in regard to fanbases. I don't think it's fair when someone who isn't a fan of a character comes in and says oh well I like the huge change. Well, of course you do because you didn't like the character to begin with. However, there are many people who like the character and his direction who are hardcore fans of such character, and it's not fair to them if people who aren't fans come in and say yeah this is awesome let's keep this permanent.

Like Cyber Subz, usually the people that I see like him he's always a third or fourth favorite. Hardly ever a first though. NO, everyone I'm not saying he's not popular. Please don't rage on me. I'm just saying usually fans of him are bigger fans of another character, meanwhile a large portion of the Sub-Zero fanbase is saying well hell, guess we got to stick with this robot now. That's just not fair to me though because everyone gets their favorite character meanwhile we are sitting with something that we never really asked for in the first place.

To change subject though, Jade's my favorite female and I think it's fair to have a favorite male and female so on Jade's part I think I should have a say.

Tell me what you think Jaded. I think Jade is actually better suited as quiet. Kitana is a princess so of course she's outspoken, much like Sindel is queen so she has to be outspoken as well. Mileena of course is a loudmouth. Skarlet hasn't got the chance to talk, but she's very loud when it comes to yelling.lol. Sonya is the leader of the OIA so she kind of has to be outspoken as well. I just think that Jade should be the quiet female. The one who doesn't speak a lot, but when she does she means business. I've also said I would like to see her as the mole character. The one who Raiden sends in as a spy and gets all the info. It would give her character direction. Direction that I honestly think she desperately needs.

It's also "dangerous" to ask a hardcore fan, because the hardcore fans are also known as fanboys/girls, fans who have a very narrow vision of how their favourite character should be like and anything that steps away from that vision is just plain wrong according to them. They tend to be highly opinionated about their favourite character which sometimes borders to the obsessive, like it is their OWN creation.

I personally try to be flexible, especially with Mortal Kombat since ANYTHING can happen with any character which was proven in the newest game.

As for Jade, I don't want to put her into a sterotype such as the "serious silent one". I like her sassiness in the newest game. It was kinda reflected on her Girl's Gone Wired video as well which is the first time we actually saw Jade showing some personality other than being in Kitana's shadow. As an assassin, I would prefer her to be more stealthy than the others which was also one of Boon's points in her MKD Bio Kard video, but because she is such a highly regarded assassin that she is tasked with protecting the emperor's "daughter", she is allowed to be cocky and self-confident. Yes, she can assassinate people from the shadows, but she can also just run straight towards her target, make fun of them and STILL win, because she is just that good (as shown against Baraka and Sheeva in Story Mode).

Though she started out being presented as an assassin, she has been presented more as an amazonic warrior in the later games and I don't mind that one bit, because I know she still has the ability of a top-skilled assassin. I don't need to see it on-screen everytime she has a scene to know it. She followed Kitana for a long time before she noticed it, and Kitana is supposed to be THE top star of Shao Kahn's assassins. She's smart, sexy and deadly.

I know, it's alot of fanboyish praise, but there's a reason I like her as much as I do. However, I acknowledge that there are always room for improvement, she has her flaws and there are people who don't like her very much, but it would be boring if she was just perfect, right?

Expelled from the Heavens, the fallen Elder God Shinnok found consolation in ruling in Hell. Conquerer of the Netherrealm, he becomes master of all manner of oni and demon. Drahmin is a powerful demon, a former warlord who himself found power in the infernal depths of the fifth plane, known to all as The Oni Tormentor. Will Drahmin be Shinnok's tormentor in Round 1, or will he bow before the master of hell?

I think Drahmin could possibly be the most brutal character in the MK series, sadly it hasn't been realized yet.

Shinnok, on the other hand was really great in MK Armageddon and MK9. Sure he was a horrible boss in MK4, but the Konquest mode in MKA really redeemed him and the ending to MK9 was pretty good. I could see him being a puppateer to all the things happening in MK. He's an evil god, he has a lot of power!

My votes goes 2 Shinnok. Can't wait to see what he has up his sleeves in MK10.

Shinnok.

He is by far my favorite boss and villain in MK. His robed costume in MKA/9 is amazing, and I loved how he proved to be in control during MKA. He was built up as a threat nicely. If only he regained his ascension....

Love him in MK9 as well, and I can't wait to see him again in the future since he's pretty much the main antagonist of the next game.
