I begrudgingly voted Raiden.
Yes, he's a dumbass who single handedly caused the deaths of every Earthrealm hero to exist....but I just REALLY hate Shujinko.

HEY!!
Jar Jar was awesome.
To an eight year-old.

And yet, he'd still get some votes, mostly from the trolls! Which is probably the same thing happening here.
Also, Raiden, he's always been one of my favorites!
Raiden is my most favorite character in the series, and he's still badass despite what happened in MK9. He's always had consistent design and an amazing pre-MK9 story. I loved his MKDA looks, and when he became Dark Raiden, I was very impressed and pleased. Overall, he's still a fantastic character and the legendary Thunder god.
Shujinko is one of my four least favorite characters. But he is one of two of my least favorites that I like to an extent. Middle Aged-Jinko was the best. I do love that he uses other people's moves, since it ties in with his story.

Here's the thing;
People berate Shujinko for being dim, but he's far from the only one. The MK cast is full of idiots; Reptile comes to mind. Baraka's been shown not to be too bright at times, and Kintaro seems kinda thuggish too. Not to mention his opponent's conduct in this last game...
I liked Shujinko. His hugest problem was a copy-pasted moveset that only a nine-year old would have planted onto a character. Could have been better with a bit of effort. But as it is....major letdown.
Raiden grudgingly gets my vote in this contest of derping banjos.

Shujinko.
I always liked his desire to participate in the tenth mortal kombat tournament and save Earthrealm from Shang Tsung. He's cool.

Raiden is still miles ahead of Shujinko. Raiden may have been portrayed as a dumbass in the recent iteration. But Deception was a game that revolved entirely around Shujinko's idiocy. Add his shitty character design in and you've got an easy choice.

Shujinko was really bland and note memorable. So much for the next-generation Liu Kang.
Voted for Raiden, but I'm not happy about it.

Shujinko's only crime was that he was a bit too enthusiastic to get involved with the Mortal Kombat tournament to take out Tsung. He jumped into all of it before he actually knew what was going on. It over-rode his better judgement even when Onaga had him doing some questionable things. Should he have known better? Sure, you could say so. However, hindsight is always 20/20 right? Shujinko thought he was doing all he could to be a hero and save the realms.
Taking MK9 into account, the same can be said about Raiden. He did make some dumb decisions that ultimately led to the deaths of just about all of his warriors... however, with every decision he made, he was under the impression that he was doing good and stopping Armageddon (until the amulet indicated he'd made the wrong choice by cracking even more). To be fair, the guy didn't have a whole lot to work with on "He must win". Just vague visions so he had to make guesses at what he should do. That's a lot of pressure. He never set out to have all the bad happen.
The only reason I'm voting for Raiden and not Shujinko is the whole copy-cat aspect of Jinko's character. Otherwise, the two are in the same boat for me in the "bad decision making" department.
I wouldn't mind seeing Shujinko again though. Just give him his own specials and keep him fighting in the Mantis style and he's good to go. I like him.

Erik, your voting pattern makes more sense now that you explained it. It especially makes since for this first round considering that is pretty much what has happened.
And why is there so much hate on these two characters? Raiden is by far my favorite character, all the way since the first MK. Sure he was shanged in the new one, but I still thought he was decent.
As for Shujinko, he was alright. Sure a bit dim witted at times, but still an alright character. I dont think they are so deserving of so much hate.
Anywho, my vote is Raiden.

Im voting Shujinko.
I cant stand Raiden. Never could. He is so overrated and overused (for me he shouldnt be playable and as invovled, he should be takign a backseat and be the narrator type character). Bottom 5 character for me personally following his disasterous antics in MK9.
Wonder how Nightwolf will fare against Kenshi.

In defense of the Thunder God, he had only vague visions to work from, and was desperately trying to prevent Armageddon. It's little excuse for his poor decision-making, but honestly, how can anyone be expected to figure out what to do with only vague flashes to go on?
Shujinko, on the other had, was a blithering idiot start to finish. Onaga played him like a two cent kazoo while dancing the Watusi to the tune of Harder Better Faster Stronger.
...And now I have that image in my head and can't stop laughing.

Raiden can't be held totally responsible for these events.
He meant well by preventing Smoke's abduction, and he had no idea the Lin Kiwi would return for Sub-Zero.
Kung Lao was being a big-headed ass, wanting so badly to win the tournament, and he got himself killed because of it.
Liu Lang was so damn preoccupied with trying to save the world, he refused to give Raiden a fighting chance, and take into consideration that even with the visions, Raiden was still very ignorant of the future. Liu even went as far as to try to kill Raiden, and got himself killed because of it.
And who the hell knew Sindel would be that damn strong?
Raiden is not at fault, he did his best with what he had.
