If that's your argument then I disagree. How are they ninja's? Ermac is fused with dead warriors so he should be a warrior right? Smoke is a demon am I correct? Noob is a demonic entity right?

Just because they have the apparel doesn't make them a ninja.

Here's an explanation on all male human ninjas, similar to how Icebaby explained them.

Scorpion is no ninja, as ninjas won't chase somebody down when they know where they are. He's more of a warrior. He's a samurai in ninja clothing.

Sub-Zero, Smoke, Rain, Bi-Han, and the human forms of Sektor and Cyrax are not ninja, they are Lin Kuei, as explained in MK: Mythologies; Sub- Zero.

Noob we sorta can call ninja. He killed Goro in stealth like a ninja would and dresses like a ninja, but he was Lin Kuei and he is still the same person, just a wraith (speaking of which, how has he never met Scorpion in the Netherrealm, he is still the first Sub-Zero, and wouqld want revenge, would he not?) and Lin Kuei are not ninja.

Reptile is a lizard. He isn't dressed like a ninja at all anymore, How can you even think that Onaga-Reptile or MK:DA Reptile resemble ninja in any way if you think Reptile is ninja.

Chameleon- he is whatever he feels. He constantly changes his style and can be ninja if he wishes. That simple.

Ermac are a mixture of souls bound to one existance which is no ninja, in look and personality. They are another samurais in a ninja's body, always ready to fight. Ermac are really a sorcerer in my mind.

And just going to add, 'classic ninja garb' was only there because I'm pretty sure it saved space. Adding new designs to the game would have cost more and taken up memory. I really think that everyone who's like 'ninja' is being pretty ridiculous at this point. Is it really that difficult to just look at the character now instead of sitting there like 'well they were a recolor once so they instantly suck and i hate them because they're overrated.' That's a terrible reason to dislike a character.

Long story short, "ninja" aren't usually ninja and have been overrated since their creation. They all are nothing more than dressed in ninja-like attire, and that's all there is to it. I don't hate the "ninja", but I don't love them. The only time a ninja helps me is in MKVDCU, when I use Scorpion. I see them as just other MK characters. Are they anything more?

A "'Ninja or Not" discussion not started by me this time... Interesting. It's nice to see others are really thinking about these things and that it's not just me who have these thoughts.

See? And that's just what I was asking about on the last page. I really wonder what all of these "non-ninja ninja" characters might have looked like if NRS had the space back then to add as many characters that looked any way they wanted back in the day.

When it's all said and done, Kitana, Jade, Mileena, Khameleon, Chameleon, Reptile, Ermac, Noob Saibot, Smoke, Sub-Zero, Rain, Scorpion, Cyrax, Sektor, and cyber smoke all rule! I would say cyber sub but I wish that character had been Hydro, cyber sub was a bad idea.

I admit, I enjoyed the palette swaps of the 90s. And I knew that when the technology advance the "ninjas" would be given their "own" look. Just look at the MK trilogy fighter select screen- each male "ninja" character had their own mask design, which differentiated them from one another. I thought that was cool. Now look at them, their palette swap days are over.

Rain is not Lin Kei. Rain is from Edenia. The LK is in Earthrealm and it consisted of Sektor, Smoke, Bi-Han, Kuai Liang, Cyrax, Frost, Tremor, and Shujinko

The 'ninja' argument probably wouldn't even exist if that had been possible. Technology back in the 90s just isn't as good as it is now. Definitely not the fault of the characters or NRS. :p I'm sure they would have all had unique designs- definitely not as unique as they are today, but they wouldn't have been palette swaps.

I use ninja as a blanket term. Yes, they have been individualized and really personified. But I will still call them ninjas because that's just how I remember them. It's just easier to classify them that way.

It makes sense to use it as a blanket term, IMO, just not as a way to directly classify a character (if that even makes sense).

I'm not saying you can't debate and discuss, that's what the forum is for. And I do understand what you mean about classifying a character a ninja. They have been given great character development and personality.

If I implied that I thought you did, I apologize, that's not what I was getting at. I was just saying that I understand completely if you find it annoying. This is like.. the third or fourth time it's come up since I've been watching the forums.

Anyways, as far as Ermac versus Smoke, I'm still kind of amazed at how close it's been and how divergent the opinions on the characters have been as well.

I personally chose Smoke because to me, I see a lot of untapped potential. He now has a name, a little bit of a past, but I want to know more about him. With Ermac, I feel like I pretty much know everything about him that I need to know.

Now, you might argue that he has a ton of souls inside of him and that he could become this sort of multiple-personality character where you could theoretically get to know several souls that are stuck inside of him. Or Jerrod could simply emerge as the dominant soul from now on. That would be kinda cool.

But even then, I think that Smoke still interests me more. They both have great moves, they're both fun to use (use, NOT spam!) and they've both improved a lot since their beginning. But Smoke gets the edge for me.

Ninja debate: People who aren't familiar with the series, will automatically think all them are ninjas. Obviously we all know that their not, well at least not all of them, BUT they all still look like ninjas so theres nothing wrong with labeling them as ninjas. Big deal.

No, a ninja is a ninja in MK if they are a pallet swap. Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Smoke, Sub-Zero, Ermac, Noob, Rain, Scorpion, Reptile, all thems motherfuckers are ninjas.

Although assassin tends to be used more in the case of Kitana, Mileena, and Jade.
