I'm pretty sure that's wrong. Kira borrows some of her moves form both Sonya and Kano, but she's not their daughter?
And Xiaoyu? She's like, 19. But she was 16... I agree that a couple younger combatants would be nice. :P Mileena acting like a 5-year-old doesn't really cut it.

After twenty years of Mortal Kombat, we ask the question: Who is the Supreme Mortal Kombat Champion? The Quarter Finals continues with two more iconic kombatants! Johnny Cage, the Hollywood action star with the power to fight gods! Raiden, the god of thunder and protector of Earthrealm! Only one can progress -- who will it be?!

I have to give it to Cage.
I like Raiden... as a character. But I absolutely find his gameplay so boring! The last chapter in Story Mode was the most tedious, because I had to play Raiden. I do like his role in Story Mode, I feel sad for him that he tries so hard to do the right thing and nothing seems to go his way, people die around him, his allies turn his back on him and he is absolutely lost at some points. For a mighty thunder god, I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to feel so powerless. I really loved how the story was told. I also think his outfits are cool, his Dark Raiden alt is the best of them all... but his gameplay... I really don't like playing as Raiden.
Cage on the other hand is fun to play as! He's not that hard to manage and he's got some good combos in his arsenal. His role in Story Mode was fun too, he is a good comic relief, but I think people really exaggerate when they say he got the best role in the Story Mode. All it did was show he is a smartass, it didn't really show much else and Cage is definately not important to the main plot at all. He's just there to be there, but what he does is GOOD! It adds humour to an otherwise very serious story and Cage fills out that role perfectly! I've always thought he looked bland though, his MKDA main look being my favourite of all his looks because he stood out more in that game.
Overall, I like Cage more than Raiden.
Even if he beat Jade due to overtime... ;P

I apologize to everyone for going back to the Kitana debate, but I wasn't able to reply sooner.
@queve: On the whole Kitana vs Shao Kahn & Rain thing. We obviously disagree. I do consider Shao Kahn a "sacred cow" and an icon, he's been shoved down our throats as the main villain so many times. I do consider him a tough competition, so Kitana beating him by 52.9%-47.0% is not bad in my book. As for Rain, we've all seen the army of Rain fans emerge during the DLC talks for MK2011, people who don't care about the character were posting about being sick of "all these Rain fans", some were even posting stuff like "I don't care for Rain, but I hate his fans", that's how big it was. However, even so I do confess being surprised to some extent on how tough he turned out to be in round 2. It's possible that a lot of the members that have some other male ninja as a favorite also voted for him. There's plenty of members around that have all the male ninjas as their faves.
I brought up the example of "Noob vs Sonya" as a reference to a potential "Sub vs Sonya" match-up for which you said Sonya would "at least stood a fight" and I find that example perfectly valid. Again, if she couldn't beat Noob Saibot how would she do any better against Sub-Zero? Don't you think Sub-Zero is clearly more supported by the community than Noob Saibot? So, it's simple logic:
Sub-Zero > Noob Saibot [Agreed?]
Noob Saibot > Sonya [Happened in round 2.]
____________________________________
Sub-Zero >> Sonya [Logical conclusion.]
Now you brought up the example of Noob Saibot beating Scorpion. Well, haven't you seen the posts referring to Scorpion's match-ups in the first two rounds? Scorpion haters even stared a freakin' public campaign "Vote AGAINST SCORPION! Vote SCORPION DOWN!", it was even in their sigs. Haven't you seen that? There were people even voting for Moloch (LOL!) (Sorry Moloch fans, if there are any at all) just to eliminate Scorpion! That's how far the Scorpion hatred goes. I'm not trying to bring down Noob Saibot, after all he I agree that he is popular and a tough competition for many, but you're overrating his win over Scorpion. Again, you can go back and read the posts, Scorpion hate was all over the place.
Oh come on, it has nothing to do with Sub-Zero? Really?
I agree with you though on people not liking Quan Chi's role in the latest game. I agree with you that it played a part in his awful result. But to say it has nothing to do with Sub-Zero? From what I've seen Sub-Zero is by far the most praised character here on MKO. And even with Quan Chi's bad presence in the latest game, his fans are still going to vote for him. Most of the fans stick with their faves through good and bad times, they don't swap their fave character for another just like that. Just like I voted for Kitana, even though I think she used to be a stronger character overall in the old timeline. So yeah, when you look how badly he did, Kitana's result ended-up somewhat respectful.
What did Jade do in the latest game that she had more going for her than Kitana? She finally got some love as in she got a chapter in the story mode, but even then her chapter has been criticized as one of the most redundant chapters in the story mode. She hardly did anything relevant. Kitana had much more going on for her. True, her story was retconned and ruined, but even then, she was one of the most prominent characters in the story mode. Where was Jade after her chapter ended, we hardly saw her on screen. Kitana was on screen very often outside of her chapter. Jade may have gotten the better costume and a better ending, that's it. How much can those shake things up? Not much as gameplay and story mode role, I'd say.
As for Jade defeating Mileena, I was surprised. Mileena's case though seems to be similar to Scorpion's. Harle (Mileena fan here on MKO) even talked about it when Mileena lost, saying she's a more polarizing character than Jade. Possible reasons on why people might have voted against Mileena or simply chose not to vote for her:
* Flesh Pits costume as the final reward for Challege Tower -> huge disappointment among the community.
* Psycho child slut persona & overall retcon -> not many liked it.
* No chapter in story mode, basically she was a punching bag.
* Promotional period and a whole month dedicated to Mileena promo material -> people got sick of Mileena being shoved down their throats. If I remember well, even you complained about the way they handled the promotion and didn't like the fact that an entire month was dedicated to Mileena only.
* Gameplay -> for some reason people don't like playing as Mileena in the latest game. She has been in bottom 5 most used characters ever since the stats showed up. [I personally love her gameplay in MK2011, one of the reasons why I voted for her over Jade]

But still, my blue baby did well and I'm glad she at least lost to a character I like a lot.

This was a tough choice, as I like both of these characters.
In the end though, I had to go with Raiden.
He was one of the characters that instantly drew me to MK. He had a unique look, and there was something about being a god that could teleport and use lightning that always seemed so cool to me.
I also like the fact that while he's the leader of the good guys, he also seems to have a dark side. It was certainly there in his MK1 ending, and while I don't think we'll ever see THAT Raiden again, he certainly showed the potential in MK:D.
I do agree that his gameplay has suffered a bit lately, as NRS seems to focus a lot on "what can we do with electricity" and coming to the only conclusion of "we can electrocute people with it."
I know that he's the God of Thunder but he's also a GOD. Give him moves where he rains lightinging down from the sky, or uses two long whips made out of lightning or give him some power moves that emphasize the fact that he's a god.
Either way, while story Raiden has been above average and gameplay Raiden has been below average as of late, overall, the character is one of the best in MK.
I know that sounds odd, but given everything he is and everything he can be, from story potential to gameplay potential to his look etc, he's still one of MK's best even if he got the heroes killed.
As for Cage, he's awesome. He's comic relief, he's perpetually a potential love interest for Sonya, which I wish they'd actually explore in the games, and I certainly do think that he has a bright future in MK, but to me, he's still a support character.
Sure, he's a GREAT support character, but he's not nearly as important story-wise as Raiden. His gameplay might be better in this game, but that hasn't always been the case.
Overall, in the future, if I had to choose which character should appear in the next game, I'd pick Raiden 10 out of 10 times.

If Raiden takes this after his shitty MK9 performance I lose what very little faith I had in this fanbase. Never forget the sight of him groveling in front of Quan Chi. and how terribly he was written. I'm amazed he made it this far, really.

@Oracle: I'm sorry, but, the Kitana we all knew up to MKDA would have swiped the floor with the competition, period.
How in the world did she do so poorly against (and hey, I really like Rain!) a character like Rain? After this game is really not hard to wonder how she would have done against the likes of Ermac, Noob Saibot or even Kenshi for that matter. Not to undermine Rain or Kahn, but, this is KITANA we are talking about! Not Kira, not Kano, or even the popular Nitara, this is Kitana. How poorly she did is a reflection of the way she's been presented and portrayed for the last couple of years, and that includes her battle VS Kahn. Its a shame and i think its important to stress it out if we ever hope to see a change. Pretty much everyone wants "Legacy" Kitana and/or "Malibu" Kitana (which are close to her MK2-MKDA years) and with good reason.
As for Quan Chi VS Sub-Zero, I said and I quote: "Quan Chi loosing sooooo badly against Sub-Zero has nothing to do with "its Sub-Zero! thats why he lost" and we all know it.". I emphasized the "sooooo badly" part because yes, obviously Sub-Zero is more popular and that gave him a heads start, but, Quan Chi would have certainly done better had he not been "trolled".
As for Jade, despite the fact that I do not approve of the personality they gave her, every time she was on screen I kept thinking "she's a badass" and never felt like she was ruined. She was still in Kitana's shadow, but, unlike Kitana's everything, she was not ruined. Kitana had a bigger part in the story than Jade, yet her story was something that barely mattered anymore because of the whole retcon disaster and her portrayal. I could go into specific details but there's no point.
Finally, you can't deny Noob Saibot is a powerhouse favorite. He was already popular before MKD, the game that managed to truly boost him up to the heavens (like it did with Mileena) and before MK9, the game that has made him a god. He's big and so is Scorpion.
