Am I the only one who sees a problem with including a character with a "NO KILLING" code in a game designed to promote "KILLING"?
I'm not outraged. Rather, I laughed a bit... just to muffle the tears inside.
If Batman's just a guest character, like Snake, Darth Vader, or Link were in their fighting game appearances, I might not be so peeved, but I just don't see how "dark, gritty, and realistic" a game involving Superman could be. The guy is faster than a the speed of sound; hitting him should break every bone in your hand anyway.
Oh, and I just hate Superman.
That being said, I will withhold judgment. I thought Nintendo screwed up with the art style of The Wind Waker (I was right, but the game was good), I thought putting Snake in Smash Bros was stupid (well, I've partially changed my mind), and I thought including Darth Vader in Soul Calibur was horrible (okay, so that part of me hasn't changed.)
Gameplay, yes, always trumps storyline, graphics, whatever, but the MK universe so far hasn't really had good gameplay. It did have a good story and good characters.... I'm just going to be really pissed if Sareena gets the axe because she had to go to make room for Aquaman....

Wow, I've been a fan of MK1 since it came out in the arcades. MK has been my favorite series for well over a decade.
There's still a large part of me that doesn't want to believe this news.
Some people on this site are wondering why everyone is whining and complaining. It's because NO ONE on this site wanted a cross over game. People talked about the new graphics, the possibilities of a better fighting engine, cool new characters, what the new story might be like etc.
What we ended up with is Aquaman. F#$*ing AQUAMAN.
Why are people angry? Because it runs counter to what Ed Boon said a while back. It's a rehash of an old idea that Capcom beat to death years ago. It's a sell out move by Midway to try and grab even more cash from their cash cow.
No Mortal Kombat fan wants to see this game come to fruition OVER a legit new MK game. Really, would you RATHER see MK vs DC or MK8? Can you now see why everyone is disappointed after waiting 2 years for what turns out to be...well, THIS?
I'll still wait until tomorrow, but if the rest of the info we get tomorrow is the real deal (and I'm guessing it is), than I'll be apologizing to Cyberdog, JRF etc and then I'm washing my hands of this series. .

For me it all depends if Shao Kahn and Ermac are gonna be in it. If one or both of them are in it, I'll support it. If not, I'm gonna ditch the MK Series.

it's been a VERY, VERY long time since i've posted anything on here. i'm more of an on-looker... but i've been a member of this community probably before mk4 times. it's been a long, long time.
anyway
i have to comment because it seems to be the most popular thing to do tonight.
i have been waiting for april 17, 2008 for quite some time now - like the rest of you. i was totally hyped. i was dissapointed when i came home from school today and there was still nothing developed. then get home from work to find...
this?
i have pretty mixed feelings. it may be a cool idea. none of us know what the fuck this game is going to be like yet.
am i dissapointed? yeah, i kinda am. i wasn't expecting this at all. as a child i really loved batman, but with mortal kombat...? come on, seriously. i just don't get it. i have no idea how they are going to fit this into the story line, if they do at all.
i was expecting what you all were - "a darker, grittier mortal kombat". i can't help but vomit in my mouth thinking about scorpion fighting superman in his tights. he better look good in his red undies or i will be livid.
so yeah
i'm dissapointed with the rest of yas.

I have been a big MK fan since late 1993... my hole life revoled around mortal kombat . I was going to get a new tattoo of the mk dragon logo and i can say now i am glade i didn't get it or else i would have to get another tattoo that said GAY! with a arrow pointig to the dragon. this is very disapointing this will be the end of MK for me i will never buy or touch a MK game again ... so to ED BOON and the MK team FUCK YOU AND FUCK MK!

On a more positive note, Sub-Zero is looking pretty good...
.... Oh, I just thought of another logic flaw.
You can't beat Batman. That's his superpower, right? You can't beat Batman. It just doesn't happen. He's beaten Dracula, Aliens, Predator, Spawn, Superman, Captain America, and every ninja known to mankind.
But you also can't beat Sub-Zero.
Ah... a paradox.

MKDC (MK vs DC) could actually be just a comic book series. It's not really known at this time that it is the actual game....I hope to hell it's not!
As others said, if it is...then the MK Team and Midway totally fucked up royally. If it's true, then they are all Donkey Raping Shit Eaters and Elephant Ass Sucking Shit Swallowers. Balls on chin Boon!!!

Okay.. Im trying to keep a level head on this... This is where Im at...
I was all for a cross over game.. Killer Instinct for example.. THAT would have been a great cross over.. I LOVE DC and comics... but Mortal Kombat does NOT fit with DC characters. and Visa Versa. Yes it would be interesting having these characters fight eachother... But Crossing the story lines would seem akward and out of place.
One large reason I am dissapointed is that this is the first Mortal Kombat game released on the NextGen systems (Im using the name Mortal Kombat loosely) Why would you do a DC/MK cross to start off?? There was already a TON of anticipation for the game, its not like they really needed any more press for it. Mortal Kombat is still a household name.
This is where I am supprised.. 99% of the people who first heard the DC rumor said it was a STUPID Idea.. because it seemed like a joke.. and a dumb one at that. Now some of you all of a sudden change your minds?
That does NOT make sense.. I am Kind of upset for this reason, Boon NEVER gives people what they want... what they ask for. People have been asking for a Killer Instinct cross over for like 13 years now... people have been asking for a dark new MK without humor.. I am willing to bet my balls NO ONE asked for MK/DC. How is this an attempt to create a game to appease and appeal to Mortal Kombat fans?...
Yes it is unexpected, yes it is a good twist, yes it is interesting... But it is not what people wanted..
When Boon FIRST talked about MK8, he said he was getting rid of 90% of the characters.. coming up with something NEW.. DC Characters are not new... HOWEVER, I would take some of the DC characters over some of the MK staff's last feeble attempts of making new original characters.
Speaking of characters... Unless your favorite characters are Scorpion, Subzero, and several other of the MOST POPULAR ones, dont count on them being in this game. Sm0Ke3, Im guessing you are a HUGE Smoke fan like I am, hes my favorite character but Im guessing he has about a 0% chance of making the Character Roster.
All in all, Im50/50 with regards to this game. All be it, still dissapointed in their choice.. I will still get it because I love mortal kombat, but I think it is a creative mistake. THAT being said, some one mentioned the fact that if this game BOMBS, there will probably be another game out shortly afterwards to try and make up for it. THAT is very true.
The one thing Boon could add to this game to make more people happy is an AMAZING Kreate-a-Character. Make it so people can create ALL their favorite MK characters.. That way you wont alienate peoploe who dont want to play as DC characters...
Well thats my 2 cents.

I am coming out of my self-imposed exile from this community to make one statement.
This is just about the lamest, most ridiculous stunt I've yet seen in the Mortal Kombat franchise. Has Mortal Kombat really fallen that far from its roots that it's resorting to a bullshit crossover? It was bad enough when Soul Calibur 2 brought Link and Spawn into the mix, followed up now with Yoda and Darth Vader (what in the f'ing Hell?). Now Mortal Kombat is getting dumped into the same, lame ass crossover bandwagon.
Capcom vs. Marvel was a bit different...the Street Fighter series was just more of the same at that point. After about 100 different versions of Street Fighter 2, 50 different versions of Street Fighter Alpha, and a million different crossovers, it wasn't so unexpected. And frankly it was a neat concept. But by that time the Street Fighter franchise was little more than a marketing point...it was so far from its roots that the joke Street Fighter had become was simply the well-accepted norm at that point. But Mortal Kombat?
As much as I dislike the MK community as a whole (save a few select people), I still held out hope for the game. I HATED Mortal Kombat Trilogy 2, more commonly known as "Mortal Kombat: Armageddon" (what a f'ing joke that mess was), and frankly Deception and Deadly Alliance were tremendous let downs. If anything rang true, the games (EXCEPT for Armageddon) continued the well established MK storyline that many of us appreciate...well, probably few of us now appreciate since most modern day MK players weren't even born until after MK3 came out...and this crossover nonsense is just going to further drive it down the shithole.
We had no story or anything resembling characterization in Armageddon...Hell, we had NOTHING in Armageddon except Deception with more characters...and now MK is going to drop everything and make way for the crossover crap. Now I don't hate DC comics by any means, but I don't see someone like Superman, who has defeated Darkseid, Doomsday, Brainiac and all the major DC villains countless times, getting killed by some worthless tramp like Tanya, or some lame excuse for a polygon count like Mokap.
And that reminds me...don't expect to see fatalities in a crossover game...I don't think DC is going to allow their licensed characters to be obliterated into chunks.
If they really needed a crossover...perhaps I would've been more favorable towards Killer Instinct, despite the massive difference in gameplay systems. War Gods I wouldn't consider for a crossover, nor does it even count, since it sits proudly in Midway's vault of shame. Is there anything else that would really work for a crossover with MK? No. Leave it well enough alone and get on with the series already. They took a break with Armageddon to just throw out some BS excuse for a game and not give the quality a second thought.
This is just laughable. I stayed true to MK even if I felt that the community has turned into a joke. And so, I return to my exile. My message is delivered. I hope for the sake of Mortal Kombat that this is some poorly delayed April Fool's joke. But I'm certain that it isn't. And so I wash my hands of Mortal Kombat. I stuck with the series since my youngest years, pumping quarters into that arcade machine almost 20 years ago and following the franchise ever since. Now?
Sayonara, Mortal Kombat. I'm sorry your legacy had to end in a fucking joke.

First of all, I never said I hated MK, I said I disliked the past few games and I hate this one. I love MK, but I'm sorry you don't like what I have to say, but I'll say it anyway because it's my God-given right as I'm not saying anything bad about any member of this board or calling others opinions stupid. It's my opinion that this game is shit. It's my opinion Boon is an idiot for making this game instead of an actual hardcore MK game with MK mythos.
I may hate this game, but at the end of the day, I will still love MK. Only the older MK, not this garbage. You guys just have to admit, you may like this idea and thats good for you because it's your preference and your opinions and everyone is entitled to that, but you have to get used to the fact that this game being in existance is going to piss A LOT of fans off. Just like I and others have to get used to the fact some will like it. I am willing to bet the haters will be the majority, but hey, lets just hope that a year from now, Boon will have learnt from his mistake and maybe my interest in MK9 (the real MK8) will peak when I see news on here or in a gaming magazine.
As for MK vs DC, I will save my money for GTAIV, a REAL example of how to reboot a franchise.

Come on people, YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME.
Even if it is a complete sellout of the MK franchise....
Even if it is a complete sellout of the MK franchise....
First off. I'm 30. Let's get that out of the way.
I loved Mortal Kombat since it first came out. I loved its darkness. It's surrealism. Just the over all energy behind the shaolin based world.
It became obvious to many of us that as time went by, the creators lacked enough imaginative qualities to make something really great out of it, thus turning the MK world into nothing more than a comedic, violent and gorey fighter with so many plot holes, the idea itself was nicknamed swiss cheese.
I hated MK3. Many other did too and pushed Boon to get off his ass and reproduce it as Ultimate MK3 which was better but a tad late.
And it took me a while to understand and accept the first 3d platform fighter MK4, but that one turned out pretty well made. Because all in all, it remained as Mortal Kombat as we all knew it.
I do work as a comic book artist believe it or not. And I love Batman. Very much so. Almost as much as Lobo.
But, in my unholy opinion, DC comics, sincerely S-U-C-K on so many levels of anti-coolness. The only ones who seem to appreciate DC, are the nerdy knowitalls who can't fathom hardcore action+badass art with griping stories, which are the void in just about 90% of the tame and lame universe of DC comic books.
But thats just my opinion. Don't have to care what I think.
Comics is one thing, video game worlds is another. Though Mortal Kombat had their shot in comic land (with the worst art ever) they were never popular because of them to begin with. It was the game. Pure and simple. And Boon and his friends were trying to milk its success as much as possible. Its a given of course.
But... If youre going to mix SHIT with water and expect us to drink it, you're sorely mistaken.
When this hit shelfs, I'm going on a long vacation from even thinking about Mortal Kombat.
And no, I wont be buying it. Unlike some, I dont buy every MK game that was made just because the logo is slapped on it.
I originally planned to buy a PS3 for MK8's release. But scratch that now. Not only does Midway lose a paying customer, but so does Sony.
And as far as I'm concerned, since these rumors are supposedly true, then so are the ones about it no longer having fatalities as DC won't have any of their cartoon characters have their heads and spines ripped out OR be associated with that type of violence.
It's more than obvious that since Batman is involved, this game will definitely be geared towards kids and not college gamers and adults.
It will be on the scale of that of Street Fighter games and COME ON. THATS FREAKING OLD ALREADY. Can we get something thats actually NEW!?
Im a little upset yeah. But oh well.
If it's one thing we artists learned off the industry, is that everything has it's shelf life. Including the fans. Many companies now ditch loyal fans to make new ones. Young ones. Ones who don't have to hide from their mommies and daddies to play a creepy cool violent game.
MK is now dead.
A new more commercial MK, will emerge. One with a wise cracking Sub-Zero and a Scorpion who brings a bag of marshmallows in ever fight.
Either way.. this news sucks.
For all you younguns who look forward to this game, enjoy it. Personally, I would beg everyone to boycott this game.
Teach Midway a lesson never to f-ck with loyal fans.
