I think a lot of people felt there was still potential, if not demand, to salvage the series after Armageddon with traditional methods of adjustments to story through the sequel.

After all the talk about wiping the slate clean and rebuilding much of the game, that certainly wasn't an unreasonable expectation.

Like I said, I'm still under the impression this is a one time crossover, not MK's certain future as far as the storyline goes. It wouldn't make much sense to me, especially on DC's behalf. I'll hope this game isn't canon, but even if it ends up being canon I'm sure the next MK game isn't going to have DC characters in it. After playing an engine that actually got progressively worse for the last 6 years, perhaps a radical change was necessary. Obviously I don't know exactly how DC and Midway decided to get together, but if the opportunity presented itself then I wouldn't expect the companies to pass it up. There's money to be made here.

Try not to think of this so much as the "death" of MK, mainly it's on life support in my opinion. Maybe this game is the one with the playable engine that sparks interest in the series again, and in 2010 or so we'll get a "regular" MK game with a deep storyline. Something flashy was obviously needed after MKD (and especially MKA) failed to increase MK's standing in the gaming world, and that something flashy comes in the form of non-MK products.

I think most people's displeasure is in the concept, the delay, and the wasted opportunity. I think the only reason people aren't qualifying their complaints with what you're saying, is because it's all pretty much given.

Lord knows with the mistakes of the past you've acknowledged, I can't begrudge anyone for wanting to avoid another one.
No doubt it'll be a technical exercise akin to PS2's Tekken Tag Tournament, and we might even benefit from it in the future, but I'm not sure that excuses or makes such a flawed concept any more palatable.

Oh, no... definitely not I'm sure. What I meant was, maybe this is the game with a good engine, not to imply it is MKDA's engine. I just meant that this game can't be any more broken than MKD and MKA are, and that maybe it's actually going to be fun to play, since no one knows how the gameplay is right now because this is a brand new fighting engine we'll have.

for those guys that think i am eager to play this game and approve of it. Let me just tell you i am not. Infact i am pissed off by the whole idea - i bought an xbox 360 2days ago because i was certain this game would rule. The whole idea sucks granted - I probably will play the game if it remains true to MK in some form. Otherwise my money will go elsewhere. And since the engine will already be done. I don't think we will have to wait till 2010 to see a "real" mortal kombat game - if one ever comes out. Hopefully xmas 2009 will see us our real mortal kombat game we have been after.

I don't think this will be a series - and it definately isn't canon (i hope). But midway shouldn't have given us hopes that it was to be THE mortal kombat 8. Its like saying Shaolin Monks is mortal kombat 7 and armageddon is mk 8 instead.

The only thing midway have going for this title now is if it holds true to MK by allowing us to splatter our oponents. If not then i expect this game will make poor sales and hopefully teach the MK staff a lesson.

You know, I haven't posted on this forum in years and looking through this bullshit thread, it's no wonder why.This community has some of the worst whiny-ass, cry-baby fanbois I've ever seen.

I'm actually pumped about this. MK has gotten shitty ever since it went to 3D. Bottom line. I've barely given it the time of day since MK4. It's been that bad.

First off, it's a VS game. It'll be a one time shot. Even if they made a sequel, it be in the same VS vein as the Capcom games where they'd spin it off into their own series. This isn't "MK8" so stop crying. I'm sure they're using it as a test run for the next actual MK.

And if it's true that there's no blood n guts (and I would assume that rumor is true with DC being in it), then I call fucking awesomeness on that. You know why? Because instead of concerning himself with putting in all the gimmicky shit that you all love, Boon may actually be trying to put that effort into building an actual fighting game for once.

Yes, I was once like a lot of you. Concerning myself with gore and "unlockables". Years ago. When I didn't know any better. Then I became non-retarded and figured out there's more to fighting games than that. Say for example, oh I don't know, an engine that isn't broken to hell. A system that has plenty of options that offer risk/rewards for a player and isn't a 50/50 guessfest.

What really kills me is the majority of the people on here bitch about how crappy the last couple games were (and rightfully so).
