Don't look at me, I got off this train as soon as the whole Sub-zero/Scorpion thing got started and trying to get it back to an actual topic hasn't worked. If people wonder why some people are uncomfortable around homosexuals, it's the last 4/5 pages of this topic. This thread started out on a great note and has turned into smut.

Just because you're comfortable with your sexuality doesn't mean everyone else is, they tolerate it, and you're pushing that tolerance to it's limits. Razor is right, if this were a thread geared towards how hot the women are and their boob sizes, I would be disgusted. So I'm done, it was good while it lasted but now we're into pairings and who's gay and who's not. It makes this thread seem vapid and shallow.

I just think it's weird that you're all, y'know, unanimously pro-slashfic and/or thinking of fictional characters perverted-ly.

I think maybe you expect too much from people on forums like these. It isn't really astro-physics we're talking about, it's a videogame and our social relations that goes along with it.

The main topic was about the gay MK community and our favourite characters, but after that topic was done with, the conversations lead to other paths related to the main topic... Well, until they started arguing about Sinner's sig, that is, but that didn't go very far.

In all honesty, I'm not sure what you guys expected a thread like this to be like.

I'm not going to go back and search the thread to find the quote, but someone said something about toning down the juvenile talk because "important people are watching." Now, I know Hector Sanchez did us all a favor by giving a nod to the gay MK fans, and I appreciate that. And I know that NRS read community discussions and take fan opinions into account. But...important?

Let's just put this into perspective for a minute. We're talking about a thread for gay fans of a video game franchise whose most salient qualities include magical fireballs and ludicrous amounts of gore.

There's no searing social commentary going on here. This isn't one of the cultural battles of the century. Mortal Kombat is a game based on silly, over-the-top violent fun. And it is very, very fun, and I'm definitely gonna buy this game, and I'm probably gonna spend an embarrassing amount of time playing it. But when I come to the forum of a fan site about such a game, I don't really expect to be reading the Harvard Law Review.

When I log out of this site, I'm going to read the news about democratic uprisings in the Middle East, continue reading Gravity's Rainbow, or study for the LSAT. Those things are important, and if I'm going to join a community based on those things, trust me, I'll keep my discourse elevated higher than giraffe pussy.

Well I was just thinking...this is, like, THE "gay pride" thread, I thought they might want their big thread that had been advertised on twitter and everything to sound more mature when people come in and read it and go "Oh, hey, these cats are alright, there's nothing wrong with them."

Suffice to say that this community is open to a lot of different things, not all of which are everybody's cup of tea. We don't self-censor much and generally only gross extremes that go beyond what we consider "decent" for a public forum frequented by people of all ages and sensibilities are subject to moderation.

That being said, people shouldn't be going out looking for trouble. It's a two way street. Avoid topics not within your comfort zone. But also don't actively try to offend people who respect the first prong. Use good judgment.

Disagreed. There's a big damn difference between killing someone because they did something to you and killing someone because of who they are.

Just because we're gay doesn't mean we're a group of our own. We're all just regular people, individuals who happen to share a few interests that includes Mortal Kombat and its characters. And some of us happen to find some of the characters attractive, enjoying some slashfiction and such... just like there are straight and bisexual people who enjoy such things.

People who didn't like gay people before this thread, aren't going to change their minds no matter how civil and mature the discourse is on here. Also, if they saw the good parts of the thread, but ignored them to focus on the bad, well what can we do? That's being willfully ignorant and there's nothing the more modest gay posters could do to change that. The same goes with that 15 year old you mentioned, he doesn't speak for all the straight males and he shouldn't. We are individuals, I don't speak for Jaded-Raven or Ninja-Mime or anybody other than myself. I don't think gays should have to put on a fascade of modesty, if people are genuninely modest, that's cool more power to them. I expected modest and more liberal gay posters in this thread because, we are like a mirror of the straight community, as varied and diverse.

I can't speak for anyone but myself. But I never went down a vulgar route. The only thing I was discussing was the potential of certain characters being gay, of course it's insignificant and childish, but it was no less interesting to see others views on the matter.

I think Sindel has so much more left to do. I thought it was kickass how she and Jade went on a mission to save Kitana from Onaga. I feel Sindel can be so much more than "Kitana's mom".

Generally speaking, Razor, what is going to happen when you get any group of people together, they're going to start acting like a group of people. This means their conversation is going to run the gamut of what people discuss. Both porn and more representation of are those kinds of things.

I loved the Jade/Sindel team-up as well, but I guess the scenario I have about what happens post-Armageddon is what makes me think that there is no need for Sindel. You see, my idea of what happens after Armageddon is that Sindel dies during the war which has a horrific mental effect on Kitana who snaps and slowly turns more and more insane. Kitana having lost so much and continues to struggle to keep Edenia free from harm, but trouble keeps coming back over and over again until she eventually breaks down...

I have a much longer story in mind about post-Armageddon, but that's for another discussion. ^^

And again back to my point of keeping perspective--if the "Gaymer" thread on MKO is formative experience on a person's perception on queer people, maybe they should re-evaluate their life.
