Kinda pissed that there was no Undertaker. but the show looks pretty good. Booker T as US Champion is pretty cool. Spike as Cruiser Champion is alright I guess. and I'am looking foward to the Angle/Eddie segment. that should be funny.
I guess Teddy Long as General Manager could be entertaining. hes a funny guy. and at least hes a FACE GM for once.

SPOILER ALERT!!!
Thanks to Doug Stuerenberg for the following:
Dark match: Hardcore Holly d. Carly Colon with the Alabama Slam. It was a decent length and not as bad as some Holly matches. Wonder if he's relegated to this due to his attitude problems?
Velocity: WWE Champion John Bradshaw Layfield d. Shannon Moore in a squash with a big powerbomb. Layfield cut a promo before the match saying that had the Undertaker confronted him before Layfield had wrestled last week, he would've knocked out Taker with one punch instead of getting chokeslammed.
"The Reflection of Perfection" Mark Jindrak d. Scotty 2 Hotty by dropping down on S2H's sunset flip attempt. He held the ropes to get the pin.
Chavo Guerrero d. Funaki. Fastest-paced match to that point. Chavo raised Funaki up on his back a la the Razor's Edge, then dropped him straight backward onto Funaki's face. That got the win.
The F.B.I. d. the Bashams. One of the Bashams had Stamboli rolled up when Nunzio caught the Basham with a kick, and Stamboli reversed the rollup for the pin.
Smackdown:
Video recap of Kurt/Vince/Eddie from last week opens the show -- the same recap as was seen on the Smackdown rebound on RAW. Pyro hits and Booker T comes out with pyro.
Booker says he wants whoever the new GM is to honor Angle's word and award him the U.S. title. Kenzo Suzuki comes out and says he deserves it, with a geisha girl translating for him. Booker got in a funny line about wanting the GM, not the owner of a sushi bar. RVD came out, immediately followed by Renee Dupree, Luther Reigns, Billy Gunn, Charlie Haas, and finally John Cena to a massive pop. Cena says the fans know who should be the champ, and started an eight-man brawl. Vince McMahon came out and said only one man can decide who should be champ: The new General Manager ... Theodore R. Long! Long said one man deserves the title, and Booker interrupts to say thank you. Long said he didn't mean Booker and says Booker doesn't deserve a thing for hating on Smackdown all the time. He says there will be an eight-man elimination match for the title tonight.
Spike Dudley d. Rey Mysterio to win the WWE Cruiserweight title. Good match w/ no commercial break because it was relatively short. Finish came when D-Von ran out from the back to yell at the ref and Spike as Spike was in position for the 619. Bubba ran out from the crowd and tripped up Mysterio on the other side of the ring, and Spike hit the Acid Drop for the win. After figuring out his half-brothers had helped, he was angry and tried to apologize to Rey.
Recap of the JBL/Taker stuff from last week. Teddy Long tells the divas they will not be underutilized anymore, then walks into his GM office, where he finds Kurt Angle. Angle said he was packing up but Luther already did it for him. Kurt makes comments about Teddy being the first black GM, and Long said that thinking is from 1985. He said Kurt will be in a match TONIGHT, but Kurt starts making excuses, finally settling on not having his wrestling gear. Long says he will be fined $1,000 for not being prepared for work, and Kurt will wrestle next week! "Get ta steppin'!" Long tells Kurt.
Paul London and Billy Kidman d. the Dudleys to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship. This appeared to have a commercial break, and it was a pretty good match. The finish came when Bubba tried to hit Kidman outside the ring with a chair, but Mysterio ran out from the crowd to get revenge, and he dropkicked the chair back into Bubba. D-Von was promptly pinned in the ring by London.
Ivory interviews Mick Foley at the Democratic National Convention. Eddie Guerrero starts his lowrider going into commercial. Hilarious SummerSlam commercial shows Batista doing a floor routine in a gymnastics competition.
Eddie comes out with something covered in the lowrider to a huge pop. He wants Kurt to meet him face-to-face, but Kurt won't do it, so Eddie tells the crew to unveil stuff in the lowrider: stolen items from Kurt's old GM office. He decides to auction them off on WWE.com. Kurt still doesn't budge. He says the false cast needs some lysol with it, the picture with Kurt and Heyman with a WWE championship belt should be used for a bathroom because it makes him want to go, and he'll get his cousin to put hydraulics on Kurt's wheelchair. Eddie draws a mustache and an "I suck" saying on another Kurt picture, then finds the gold medals. He tries to auction them off to a Cincinnatian for $1, but Kurt finally comes out. He says if Eddie won't give back his stuff, he'll steal the lowrider. Eddie says don't do it because there's an anti-theft device. Kurt says "Nice try" but turns the key and gets powdered in the face! Eddie says the only thing that would make the night better ! is stealing Kurt's music, which plays. Huge "You Suck" chants as Kurt leaves. Entertaining and strong segment.
Next week: Kurt Angle in action, Spike/Rey vs. the Dudleys.
JBL commercial a la a politician's commercial airs recounting his playing football with a broken leg, going behind enemy lines to entertain troops, and being the Mexican, Korean, European and WWE Champion. So over-the-top that it works.
Booker T won the 8-man elimination match for the U.S. title. Eliminations as follows: Charlie Haas eliminated by Billy Gunn's fameasser. Dupree eliminated by Luther Reigns' finisher. Cena comes in and gets into it with Luther. It spills outside and Kenzo Suzuki hits Cena with the belt from behind, getting DQed. Billy Gunn is next to go with the FU. Luther gets the FU soon after and is gone. The finish was splendid, as RVD caught Cena with the 5-star frog splash. Booker stole the pin and eliminated Cena and quickly caught RVD with a vicious scissors kick to win the match and the title. RVD's head was driven down hard and it looked convincing from my vantage point.
Booker celebrates on the ramp and leaves. End of show.
And as always, credit goes to Wrestlinginc.

- The following is from wistv.com:
(Hilton Head Island-AP) July 28, 2004 - A former professional wrestler has been arrested on Hilton Head Island.
Sean Haire, known to WWE fans as Sean O'Haire, is charged with assault and battery against two women at a nightclub last month.
Haire was arrested Tuesday.
A warrant states Haire punched Ivy Rowland and Deidre Clancy at Club Hypnotic on June 12th. Haire also is accused of kicking Clancy while she lay on the ground.
The Hilton Head Island resident was released from WWE about a month ago.
- From what we know, Roddy Piper has recently contacted Vince McMahon via fax about a possible job in WWE again.
Don't know many details at this point but basically Piper presented his side of the situation for whatever statements he made on HBO's "Real Sports" segment regarding deaths in pro-wrestling. Those statements are the ones that actually led to Piper being released from WWE during his last run. He also even mentioned some character ideas for himself, if he were to be brought back in to the company.
- Brock Lesnar passed his physical and signed a contract on Tuesday with the Minnesota Vikings for the league minimum of $230,000.
Lesnar won't get the money, though, unless he makes the final roster. The Pioneer Press says that would be "stunning". Lesnar is considered a longshot at making the team, but will report to training camp on Friday.
If Lesnar doesn't make the final roster, but makes the practice squad, he will receive $73,000.
NFL.com has also carried the story about Brock Lesnar signing a contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
Here is the official NWA TNA PPV Preview for July 28th, 2004:

This just in:
More on Piper's possible WWE Return:
As reported earlier, Roddy Piper is trying to make his way back into the WWE and recently contacted Vince McMahon with a personal fax regarding the possibility of him coming back to work for the company.
Basically, the fax was all about Piper trying to explain to Vince McMahon why he said what he said back on the HBO special that resulted in the loss of his last job with the company. He also pitched a few character ideas for himself if he were to return to WWE programming.
Piper wants to be more of an on-air personality rather than a wrestler. He had outlined that he wanted to become a character on the programming, though at this point we are unsure whether WWE will consider him or not. In reality, there is not much left for WWE to do with Piper due to the fact that they can't use him in the ring, though WWE does have quite a track record regarding past talent that has made money for the company over time.

What did Piper say in the HBO special? I heard something about him talking about veterans dying after years of wrestling, but I missed it.

I'd just like to put in a few words for TNA. Almost all these posts are about WWE. I could count with my fingers how many posts TNA is in within about 5 pages. I'd like to point out some reasons why TNA is well on it's way to give WWE some competition.
1: No promos that last like 20 minutes.
2: Actually concentrates on the wrestling.
3: Doesn't have to resort to giving all they're wrestlers gimmicks (cough...Eugene...cough)
4: X DIVISION!!!
5: AJ Styles, Ken Shamrock, and Jeff Hardy!

i havn't looked at them however coz i want to watch it but i thought you spoilsports might want to know.
P.S. Please dont put them on this thread coz i really dont want to know.
P.P.S. My copy of Ric Flairs book should be arriving from amazon tommorrow.....yay

I'd like to point out some reasons why TNA is well on it's way to give WWE some competition. 1: No promos that last like 20 minutes. 2: Actually concentrates on the wrestling. 3: Doesn't have to resort to giving all they're wrestlers gimmicks (cough...Eugene...cough) 4: X DIVISION!!! 5: AJ Styles, Ken Shamrock, and Jeff Hardy! |
Feel free to talk about TNA or any subject on wrestling. As you see the title of the thread states discuss everything wrestling, past, present, whatever. WCW, ECW, TNA, WWFE, whatever your little hearts desire. I'm a fan of TNA myself. I'm posting an article for Canadian TNA fans at the bottom.
jade2004, don't worry about me posting spoilers, I don't like it any more than you do. I ask everyone to please not post any more spoilers. If anyone wants to read the spoilers there are plenty of sites, such as the ones I've posted in the past, where you can see them for yourselves.
If anyone wants to hear Flair's OTR interview from last night, go to www.tsn.ca/wrestling, they posted video from the interview.

- As many wrestling fans have seen and heard, there has been much talk lately regarding the situation between Bret Hart and Ric Flair. Though there could possibly be a lot more to the situation than we know.
Shane McMahon and Bret Hart have had numerous talks recently concerning the upcoming Bret Hart DVD. Mainly, the meetings were regarding the DVD and Bret would give Shane input as far as what matches would be on the DVD and such.
Lately we have been hearing that while meetings were specifically for the DVD, it has recently turned into Shane McMahon actually bringing up the subject of a WWE return for Bret.
We will have more on this story later on today.

- Brock Lesnar was featured several times on ESPN today on Sportscenter, Around The Horn, and Pardon The Interruption.
On Sportscenter, they mentioned the fact that Lesnar signed with the Vikings (which had already been reported on this website yesterday). On Around The Horn, the argument came up as to whether Brock Lesnar will be athletic enough to compete in the NFL. Everybody on the show argued that Pro-Wrestling is not a sport, and he wouldn't be anything in the NFL, but Woody Paige stuck up for Lesnar and Pro-Wrestling, stating that guys have to be athletic enough to do the things they do in the ring. For anyone who watches the show they might find it funny that Jay Mariotti didn't know that the WWF is now the WWE.
Pardon The Interruption had a segment which was a debate whether Lesnar would have over or under 1 career sack in his NFL career (which they guessed would last one season).
Basically the overall feeling amongst many of the sports analysts and journalists at ESPN is that a pro-wrestler in the NFL is somewhat of a joke, and unless he proves himself people are going to continue to laugh at the fact that a pro-wrestler is playing in the NFL.

Hmmm. Wasn't impressed by Smackdown. I enjoyed RAW much more. But it does seem that SD is getting a bit better.

I thought SmackDown! was excellent tonight.
All 3 matches were great. espeically the Eliminaion Match. The Cena/Asian Girl part was hillarious.
I think Teddy Long is making a pretty good GM so far. thank god SmackDown! finally has a FACE GM for once. he makes me laugh when he talks the way he does.
The Eddie/Angle segment was hillarious! the ending with Angle stealing Eddie's car only to have powder sprayed in his face was really funny!
The only thing that bugged me was no Undertaker. I see no logic in keeping your #1 CONTENDER off the damn show for no fuckin reason. however, sence SmackDown! is in houston Texas next week, Taker's REAL hometown, I think it would be sucide not to have him on the show.
overall, Great Smackdown! IMO. which was far better than anything on Raw right now.
