NO he doesn't have any proof, that is what I'm saying. There is not a single shred of viable evidence. Ed Boon saying that ermacs happen in MK 1 arcade is not saying that they put in a hidden character named Ermac for God's sake. Sharpe saying "Don't try to get Ermac, it probably isn't going to work." is even more proof that he's not there. They are going by what a fan said, and a fake photo that they bought. I can't be much MORE right here.
The hidden characters in MK1 on Genesis on the Pit Bottom, Sonya and Raiden with Reptile's pallet, they are closer to being a legit hidden character because you can repeat the method of getting them, AND Sonya's method is even MORE difficult than Raiden's, and again this can be repeated time and time again, without failure. They are still unintended hidden characters, it is bad programming. They are closer to being "Ermac" than and ermac causing a red ninja, that is to this day a RUMOR, not a fact. My evidence is overwhelming compared to hearsay and circumstantial evidence. A glitch that no one seems able to repeat after 11 years...hmmm yeah that sounds real. Or not.

Exactly, Hyuga. I think you guys should just agree to disagree. I agree he has no proof of Ermac but he has evidence -even if you don't buy it- that does not make you or him right.

Shingo, Macro is also another word for binding, or a series of commands to do something automatically. In this case I think "error correction" is more likely than "big error", just a tidbit.
mk5.org can give me all the skull points they want lol, the bottom line is, the very first post I saw of this topic said "Where Ed Boon CLEARLY states that Ermac appears in MK1." After seeing the statement, one can conclude that Ed Boon said nothing of the sort, just that there is an error macro system built into the game, which they later removed when most of the bugs were worked out. If there is some other interview we haven't seen, where Ed Boon says this, I'd like to see it, but in the so called "proof" that I was presented with, he does not say that. This removes the only evidence of Ermac existing in MK1.
If someone says "Something is over there", and there is nothing there, and I say "Something is not there." Who is right? That's what it comes down to. Even if God walks over and says, "Yeah it's there" and I look over, and nothing is there, God needs to have his vision checked, cause there's nothing there.

That's what the you could see in the polaroid. A ninja raising his hand in a victory pose, and on the screen the words "Ermac Wins!" appeared.

I assume the Error Macro program wasn't removed, solely for the purpose of system recovery from any unknown bugs.
Yes, every MK game had bugs that made it into the final revision, so it's safe to assume they kept the program in place as a "just in case" measure.

I just wish I could trigger it somehow. I figured a number of resets might do it because a bunch of the ram isnt completely wiped with a reset and that leads to mess ups in the game after a couple of resets. I figured errors from resets was something at least plausible for a game in an arcade. Anything else, like poking around to cause an error, or even when resetting messes it up completely, it ends up just forcing another reset if it recovers at all. Many times it just flat out freezes.

SuperMarioBro, who are you to say people can't argue about things in gaming forums? Seriously, you need to crawl back under your rock or something because I'm officially sick of you. You commented in another thread about me going off on things. Just do yourself a favor and clam up. You have no business in here if you're not going to add to the discussion.
I saw on a thread one time, "Arguing in forums is like the special olympics, even if you win, you're still retarded" and I thought that was the greatest thing I've ever seen, but I still do it, and I guess I'm retarded, but I can't seem to make these two guys understand that when something isn't true, IT-JUST-ISN'T-TRUE.
Here's what we've got so far:
An EGM Magazine from 1993 with a polaroid picture, that could very easily be fake, of what he said he found to be a red ninja he fought in Mortal Kombat 1.
An interview from, Gamepro was it? With Ed Boon and Roger Sharpe both saying that the supposed character he found is an error that shouldn't happen, and it's impossible to reproduce, and simply labeled it as an error macro, and some people think that Ermac was put into UMK3 because he was a hidden character in MK1, but he was put in as a fan service character to give life to a rumor that was not true. If the head programmer of the game didn't know about this, then that means he didn't put it in the game himself. No one knows how to reproduce the error, and you can safely say that because of this, it's a lie.
But again, Ermac isn't in MK1. It's a lie guys, a Macro Lie. The ERMAC system was there so they could check up to see how many times the system had to correct itself due to bugs. I bet you Tony Casey looked at the audits and saw maybe a #1 next to ERMACS, and thought since it was under Reptile battles, it must have been another hidden character, if it was, it would more than likely have said, "Ermac battles." I think that is a MORE than fair assessment of the situation, but, this is giving the whole scenario the benefit of the doubt that it's true to begin with. As far as the bulk of the old school MK community is concerned, it's hogwash.
SuperMarioBro there is your rant. Yell all you want, I can't wait to read it and then make fun of you, you're a scumbag. At least that other guy had enough guts to call me an asshole and I respect that.
This is the most attention the classic gaming thread has gotten in a while and I think that's fun and healthy. One other thing, I saw a guy say that "Whatever anyone says to contradict what I say here is false" that's totally delusional and it's an effort to make people believe something that isn't true, it's not true because it's proven, and he also mentions in his bio that Ermac was well hidden in MK1, they wrote that storyline after the fact, after the rumor, to give him a reason to be there. Then they changed it because that was stupid, he wasn't really there, and that's that. According the MK storyline, with Ermac existing around the time of MK1, he didn't do ANYTHING, so it's as if he wasn't really there anyway.

To label me as a person out to deceive the masses just absolutely inflames me, I never would, simply put. Im not youre typical bureacratic government agency, i dont deceive people.
Then you claim that they wrote a storyline to accomodate that he was there. Okay. Newsflash: Maybe its because they had no other choice on how to explain an errant character that existed. Then why else would they say he was well hidden. Perhaps because he was 1 in a million, that well hidden?
Now, how would you change his story like you claim? He could have a new story in future mk game, but his umk3 story is forever written in stone. Its VIDEO GAME HISTORY, MEANING YOU CANT GO BACK IN TIME!

ANYWAYS... Does anyone know that glitch that causes Sub Zero and Scorpion to be green on the console versions of MK1? Does that work in the Arcade version as well? Because if it does, I have something new to add on to my theory

It might be a big time luck error, but bottom line you can! Im sick of people saying you cant obtain him, thats just not true, somebody should be able to back me up on this. Yes errors occur in mk1 or in any other game for that matter, and yes its as rare as hell, 1 in a million, but it has happened. The process of error macro has made that possible. Im pretty sure he copies all of scorpions moves though, thats a fact. Later on in the years back in UMK3 days, its sais in his bio that he was very well hidden in MK1. You be the judge. |
That is a pretty definitive statement right there. You are out and out saying that Ermac is in MK1. You are deceiving everyone who reads this thread. You are lying to everyone, including yourself, because you believe it so blindly.
Here is Ermac's story from UMK3, if you don't get the joke here they are throwing at you, you are more naive than I give you credit for:
Having been in hiding since the first Mortal Kombat, neither the earth nor the outworld has recognized this elusive ninja. Ermac uses his victory in the tournament to prove his existence...as well as a warning that he will return as an unstoppable force in the fourth Mortal Kombat.
Wow guys, that is such a sad, BS, last second storyline that I am amazed they even put it in the game. I'm smiling right now lol.
OK here is Trilogy:
When Kahn finally eliminates his opposition, he finds a new and surpriseing foe in Ermac. The Outworld souls that give life to the warrior did not trust their tyrannical leader who planned to consume the powerful life force for his own power. Even Shao Kahn's power was no match for the overwhelming strength of legions of deceased outworld warriors. They destroyed their master in a battle that devastated the entire realm. Ermac was left behind to rule it with his own brand of oppression.
That storyline makes so much more sense, and has so much more creativity behind it than the CRAP they fed you in UMK3 as they tried to find any possible way to get him in there as fan service. I just thought this was some interesting reading that they would change this guy's storyline like that. The only other story they changed was Human Smoke's.
outworld, his storyline is the rumor. It's so blatant. They changed it to something reasonable later. If he was supposed to be there, and they had storyline for him, way back when as some people seem to think they thought ahead on this, they wouldn't have given him a fake storylins in UMK3, and then change it to a normal storyline in MKT. They had no idea what to do with him because they didn't create him. Just be glad they put him in UMK3 cause he's not in any other game before that.

Could it be that the console version just has completely different programming than the arcade? Could Sub and Scorp play like Reptile, as in, have his attributes? It is possible they use the same pallet for skin and the black of the costume, and then a variable color for the yellow blue and green, so all the green hues would replace the yellow and blues naturally. Which is why the messed up characters on Genesis are messed up, they aren't using the right colors in the right places.

Let me tell you something Mr MK2Kung broken, youre the one thats spreading lies, and my next post will put this contovery to sleep. Im glad you dont believe in Ermac, that way you wont get to play him. The proof for ermac is here. Gamepro confirms it.

Good job, outworld222.
The only "problem" is that I'VE provided that proof a couple of times already and MK2KungBroken has ignored it so far, so let's see if he pays attention this time.
And Quirk, that glitch you're talking about that turns other characters a green color can be done in 2 ways:
1)The method MK2KungBroken talked about that turns Raiden and Sonya a green, messed-up color (SORTA complicated).
2)A method that turns Scorpion and/or Sub-Zero into a green color (VERY easy).
Go to MKShin to find out how to pull those glitches (along with every other glitch from every other MK game) off.
