This photo and article is the official proof that Ermac was a hoax. If you can't understand why, then there is a serious problem here.
From this point on, Ermac is not at your control, you have not found the passage from the outworld to the earth realm, you will not battle with an undiscovered warrior from mortal kombat one, prepare yourself for nothing, return to Goro's Lair and sit around and play with bugs, all high punches will get you nowhere, your reward is the opportunity to fight no one.
To further examine Sakura's point, let's recap what the article says:
"About 6 months ago, I was playing the game and before the fight started, this red ninja jumped on the screen and said,'I will fight you near the statues.'"
Lie.
"About a week ago, I was playing against my friend Bob Shields, and we were both playing Johnny Cage, I beat him double flawless victory using only punches. Then suddenly, the red ninja jumped on the screen and said, 'I am Ermac. You will never defeat me."
Lie.
His friend Bob HAPPENED to...HAPPENED to have a polaroid camera with him. LOL that is FUNNY.
Of course the store was dark and camera, a polaroid camera, didn't have a flash.
Honestly, thinking about this in all seriousness, if they took a picture of a TV screen, chances are they wouldn't have enough time to totally perfectly align the camera straight up and down because the text is literally straight up and down pixel for pixel with text from a screen shot from Mame resized properly. I call this "glitch" 3 in a million. It all happened on one machine, yeah right.
The picture is so poor it's unreal, the screen itself would provide enough light to get a decent shot of it, and the background looks like stars and nebula clusters. This is the fakest fake that I have ever seen, and I wouldn't believe Ed Boon if he told me it was legit, because I'd ask him to show me Ermac for himself, and he wouldn't be able to do it.

yeah people need to quit bringing up "well ed boon said...". the guy plays off rumors to keep people playing his games. he'll never say the truth. even when asked a couple years back if all the secrets have been found in mortal kombat games, he said "almost". even though every game game has been hacked to death. he just twists shit while not really lying. so a word to newbie mk'ers out there, never take his word as gospel. shit, never take his word period.

Yeah I think this pretty much wraps it up, it's been a blast going back and forth on this in all honesty, just look at how much attention this thread has gotten, without it, this whole forum would have barely had a pulse for the past couple months.
There's still going to be people who believe, there's nothing anyone can do about that, but I think for the most part, anyone who did firmly believe here, has their doubts now. One last thing, I just wanna recap an earlier post and be an ass in this thread one last time.
"Heres the rap, and everything else you hear that contadicts my statement here is false. Despite what people say, you can obtain a character called Ermac. It might be a big time luck error, but bottom line you can! Im sick of people saying you cant obtain him, thats just not true, somebody should be able to back me up on this."
No.
"Yes errors occur in mk1 or in any other game for that matter, and yes its as rare as hell, 1 in a million, but it has happened."
No.
"The process of error macro has made that possible."
No.
"Im pretty sure he copies all of scorpions moves though, thats a fact."
GOD NO.

Well hell, we're all probably gonna have ourselves an "arcade perfect" port of MK in 20 days anyway. Everyone just vow here and now not to play it without a VCR cued up and ready to go.
We'll find that wiley red bastard yet!
PS. I meant this largely as a joke, so please don't shoot back at me about how "HE DOESN'T F'N EXIST!" I'm not taking a side. I wouldn't touch this one with a 10 foot pole. Once again, I meant this post only as a joke.
EDIT: Wow, I didn't realize how old this thread was when I posted. I just followed a link from another thread to this one. Didn't mean to revive one that was this old and dead. Sorry.

Boon could've intentionally modified only 1 machine, then sent it on it's merry way, and that 1 machine had the real legit Ermac. Just because he's a screwey bastard.
Arguing about the Ermac myth, is like debating religion, we won't know till something actually happens. My point is, Ermac does exist, NOW, enjoy him(them?) while he's still around.

What?
Yes I believe in the "Ermac", but I don't care. I'm not going to argue over something I never witnessed, I just want resolution, whichever way it goes. "Ermac" isn't anywhere on my immediate priorities list.

I don't think it's THAT impossible tere was an ermac... I don't know if it showed his name as "error Macro" or "ErMac"... but after all, if there was a "silver" goro, why not a red scorpion?

Red scorpion could happen since things like Goro with Kano's pallet happen (silver goro). But there is no hidden character called Ermac with custom life bar images and victory text.

The following statement is purely based on the mechanics of pallet swapping in video games:
Aside from the fact that the only way for Scorpion to have a perfect red costume (as shown in the EGM magazine) would also be if player one had a primarily red pallet, meaning all hues of red, black, and skin tones, would have to be all in the same places of the pallet as Scorpion's, so they would line up perfectly, but this is not the case. There is no character who can provide such a pallet. There is entirely a possibility for there to be a distorted black/flesh color/red Scorpion because of a glitch with Johnny Cage's pallet, since he is the only character with enough hues of red in his pallet (Kano's eye doesn't prove enough), but that would be making a big deal out of nothing, we could for all intents and purposes call the Silver Goro "Heavy Armor Goro" or "Mecha Goro" or something, but we don't, because it's obviously a pallet stealing glitch since Goro looks completely incorrect since the hues of colors are simply not in the correct places to make a realistic looking character, and anyone saying otherwise is purely basing it on the EGM magazine would is 100% fake. Only one person has ever had a good idea on why they made it, and that would be based on the glitch that I am speaking of that happened before the magazine was published, and they took it one step further. Pallet stealing is never perfect unless the characters were designed to share pallets, for example getting the green Sub-zero in Genesis MK1 after fighting Reptile. It loads Reptile's pallet and it winds up being perfect since the ninjas have interchangeable pallets with colors located in specific places so things are displayed properly.
I hope this clears up any misconseptions that characters can just magically have perfectly arranged pallets if accidently stealing another's that wasn't intended for them.

I said "Oh christ" because someone came along and dug up this old-ass thread.
I would probably say that there would be a good chance Ermac exists except for the glaring fact that the story bundled with the EGM polaroid are the fakest shit I have ever seen. Did you guys even READ the story the player sent to EGM on how he got Ermac? What kind of braindead person believes that story could possibly be true after we've found every last bit of text in the ROM file?

Yup... that's exactly what I think.....
I think pretty much all "Ermac" pics are fakes... but i think the rumor sprouted thanx to a failure in some games (Probably those crappy "family game" ones...) where the prites got messed up and looked red... like that thread in this forum where we see a pink kitana and a fan wielding Mileena...
And then people just get worked up and the whole "Ermac" stuff started... by the way... When I first heard the rumor of a red ninja being arround he was being called "Herbucle" or something like that... then they gave that "name" to a decorative character in the pit or some crap like that...

I would love to try to get a red scorpion via mame cheats if possible but have yet to figure out the pallet variable in any MK game. I think I was close in UMK3 because I was fiddling with Shangs morphs in which there is a variable that controls the sprites used and a separate that controls the pallet used. I found the sprite controller but never the pallet controller.
My idea is that every sprite needs a pallet, therefor blood has a pallet that might be swappable. That would be a very red ninja. But, it probably wouldnt have any black or skin tones, it'd either be all red if there were enough red colors in the pallet (probably not) or it would be red and the computer would read past the end of the red pallet and start coloring using resident garbage.

ok, im gonna add... if u believe there is a hidden character named errmac in mk1, than u are they type of person who believes there are watchdogs, and kano transformations, and that one other one i cant remember,
Sakura Wrote: I think the story is more interesting than the pic. The story should pretty much kill any credibility that guy has. It's just so goofy. He claims he saw Ermac a week earlier jumping down giving clues. WTF? That "I will fight you near the statues" thing isn't one of Reptile's clues. How could an error or glitch just happen to cause a red ninja to drop down and give new clues? That makes no sense. And what kind of coincidence are we dealing with where if this is a "million to one thing" the same guy saw him jump down then later just so happened to actually fight him? The description of the fight is ridiculous too. How would stuff like "I am Ermac, now fight me~!" and "ermac wins!" and all that get into the game? What he is describing is obviously no glitch. If things like clues to get to him and messages when you reach him are programmed in then surely it must be a real secret that's reproducable and if you're going down that road then it's insane to think that after a decade of play nobody has been able to find out how to do it. |
well i dont know cause boon stated that there's still 1 more secret to find in MK1....
SuperMarioBro Wrote: Wait a second. I think what KungBroken is saying, that none of you have been listening, "There is no ERMAC in the game." I agree, because A Red Scorpion is not Ermac, but if Ermac was, It would say in the lifebars, and Ermac wins. |
not true about lifebars, cause in aracde version the lifebar for reptile said scorpion but when he wins it says REPTILE WINS!!
