This is from a transcript that is right on this site, from 1999.

[18:57] NosajMKcom} TRMK} Are there any big secrets still in the previous
installments that we haven't found yet (for example, the Trilogy
Ultimate Kombat Code)?
[18:58] EdBoon} No, I think every mk secret hasbeen uncovered... except nobody
found Ermac yet in MK1!!! :)

Take that how you will, but that looks like a joke to me. More than 6 years after the fact? Sorry guys...can someone please find the exact wording he used in that EGM mag too?

I have to agree with you. Everything you have said seems pretty logical, plus you have the pictures to back you up. I recall that scrambled message now, I had forgotten all about that. Like I said, I did a sequence someone on this board suggested once, and the game did glitch up on me, however it was not the 'red ninja' glitch, it was a screen freeze glitch...or a 'screen freeze error macro' if you will... wink

For someone who's so passionate about disproving those of us who DO believe, you have a pretty hard time keeping track of WHERE the "proof" can be found.

For the LAST time:

-Interview where BOON HIMSELF says that Ermac was a character that showed up when MK1 messed up: GamePro mag (the SAME GamePro mag that has the Shang pic used in that sticky thread).

-Polaroid pic taken by some guy who claimed to have fought him after beating a non-playing P2 with Johnny Cage using ONLY HP in the Warrior Shrine: EGM (btw, it was their "Most Wanted Trick." EGM asked readers to send in more pics and/or a method to fight against him).

-Website where it clearly states something along the lines of "After the original game's unlikey rumors of secret characters like Ermac and Reptile turned out to be TRUE..." (GamePro.com).

I could be wrong, but I remember in a later issue of EGM they had a section saying that all the Ermac rumors were false.

Here is something that doesn't prove anything either way, but it something to consider.

The arcade manual for MK1 refers to "ermacs" as "Error Traps".

OK MKSecrets, you are officially a moron. Everytime you speak you make less and less sense. I have provided a wealth of proof that Ermac doesn't exist, and your only evidence is an EGM magazine no one can find, and even when it is found, it's still just a magazine with words, not a code, or a method of playing that you can repeat that works. Ermac is still considered a rumor, not a truth, therefor never proven true. Your method of obtaining him does not work and it has been tried by countless thousands. After 11 years, and only one person ever seeing this glitch, it is logical to theorize that the guy with the polaroid is a liar, and EGM published it to sell magazines.

Ermac does not exist in MK1.

Error Traps are a programming technique to quell user errors...such as entering numbers when only letters are accepted.

So "no one can find" that mag huh? Funny how you yourself posted in the previous page that you probably had that EGM.

Answer me this one thing: Am I a moron 'cause I offer proof of something or am I a moron 'cause I simply believe something (and yes, I'm aware that countless others agree with me and that countless others DISAGREE with me) you don't?

P.S. Lemme guess, your answer's gonna be "You're a moron 'cause you still believe Ermac is in MK1 after all these years."

Anybody else find it pathetic that MK2KungBroken has dedicated his sig to something as utterly retarded as disproving a rumor?
This bickering is just sad. Why doesn't somebody just add a bit of data to the ROM and watch what happens when this "error macro" occurs?

A moron because...

You have no proof. The Prophet from Shoryuken.com knows he has the magazine, and he will look for it. He also has some interesting news for you guys, but I'll let him post it. If this Ermac thing was a one in a million shot, what would happen if he had picked another character when the glitch happened and he had a red Kano, or Johnny Cage, or red anyone else. What if it just happened to be Scorpion? If this error was permanent, and Scorpion remained red for other rounds, there would be more footage.

Hyuga, the sig is just a bit of fun that took me about 5 minutes to make, I'm having with the subject, and there is NOTHING wrong with a good debate. You cannot edit the MK rom and get this glitch to happen because as far as I know, the only available MK1 rom is version 5.0, and you can't even fight Reptile in that version. ERMACS were removed and the only versions that ERMACS occured in were early versions, and ERMACS are not limited to a red Scorpion. Ermacs are MAChine ERrors, or Macro Errors, and ERMACS is a counter to see how many times an ERMAC occurred. It has nothing to do with the character Ermac who is in UMK3. The Ermac story/interview in that EGM will be explained in due time. If the Prophet can find the magazine I will scan and post it. The EGM will provide a code that does not work, therefor it is false.

I have not tried to get Reptile in Rev 5...but I'm about to right now.

Almost all versions of MK1 are emulated, not just the T-unit ones.

Here is what was said....

Ed Boon: I can't tell you if it's in MKII. It's not necessarily a thing that you can get to this or that. It's associated with a...I can't say it's a bug, but it's an event that happens in the game that shouldn't happen. I called it Ermac, my program code, which stands for "Error Macro." When something happens that shouldn't happen, it'll fix itself. Similarly, Smash TV had a
thing where the game would lock up and would put you in a Warp Zone. It would basically recover the system and put you back in the game, but the game creators called that glitch the Hidden Key Room or something like that. Ermac is similar to that.
It's not a feature that can be accessed by doing any particular moves.

Roger Sharpe: Some people can't believe that there isn't a logical, progressive way to get to Ermac. If you're one of the fortunate few to ever encounter it, fine. Savor the moment, because it
could never happen again. I would not encourage anybody out there to play the game with the express mission of trying to find this character.

Personally, I don't buy it. What he says about Smash TV is true, but in that case it's well documented. It's rare, but it's not SO far that nobody ever sees it. There is actual information and details on it and it can be reproduced. With MK1 nobody ever sees Ermac, nobody ever knows any real details, nobody has ever reproduced it in a DECADE. Over 10 years of play by millions of people and there's one crappy pic?

Why can't it be reproduced? I don't get it. If he can create a special program to stop it why can't he tell us exactly what the glitch is? There's countless glitches in MK1 and the other MK games and he did nothing about those, the game just crashes and goes to the ROM check.

It's just so vague and silly. The idea of this special red ninja to stop "an event that shouldn't happen"? Also it's funny "he can't tell us if it's in MK II". Way to keep up that "mystery" Ed!

OK there is the proof, errors he calls ERMACS. Not a hidden character called Ermac. Case closed people. Boon is very general about it too, because the still "supposed" glitch to get a red Scorpion, is one of many different types of Ermacs, and he even states it's something that isn't supposed to happen, and is self correcting, or a programming script to prevent errors from crashing the game. My God. Your proof proves me right.
You're never going to see Ermac in MK1 cause he's not there. The reason he can't say if Ermac is in MK2 is because of the scrambled message you get when you beat the game.

So there's still nothing that says anything about a red ninja. Cool.

Also, putting in incorrect bits of data doesn't cause ermac's in mk1 5.0, but I will test the others. In mk1 5.0 it forces the game to reset.

MKSecrets, you amaze me.

If you read the question and answer, and think, for even a couple seconds, you will realize that it is an unrepeatable accident. Boon mentions NOTHING about fighting a Red Ninja and only says that it is an accident. Roger Sharpe has NOTHING to do with creating or programming the game. He only gets a special thanks, he probably got the guys coffee on the late nights. Ed Boon knew nothing of this specific error before someone claimed to have caused it, and only one person has ever claimed to have seen it and provided evidence, which was a load of garbage. A RUMORED color pallet glitch that Ed Boon claims is one of the ERMACS that occur in MK1 is NOT an intentionally added hidden character named Ermac. You officially have no evidence. furious

Ermac is not in MK1.

Hey MKS, didn't you access Ermac at some point? I thought I read that in a post of yours.

Also, I came up with a plausable theorey as to how what causes the Ermac, so if anyone wants to fuck with the ROM try reading my theory in this thread.

You came up with a plausable theory about something that isn't true.

Amazing.

Here's my theory.

The guy who sent in the polaroid faked it, they bought it, or they didn't buy it and they set it up to sell magazines. End of story.

The Ermac rumor is a bunch of HORSE SHIT. Any serious MK fan knows this, and anyone who thinks it's true has the attention span of a 3rd grader. You went on and on about how the great EGM magazine was going to prove me wrong, when all along I knew that it would not, and in fact it proved me right, yet you still go on about it so matter of factly in that explanation of how the color pallet messes up. It is common knowledge that there is a RUMOR that you can fight a red ninja in MK1. Is NOT common knowledge that you out and out can. See that kind of BS is what gets to me. I know you made that thread months ago, but regardless, quit spitting out hearsay. You've never played against Ermac and you never ever will. Had your little "common knowledge" paragraph explained that Ermac is a rumor and not a frigging FACT, I wouldn't be so peeved. That's what this kind of thing is to me, a pet peeve. I remember guys in highschool making up rumors about MK that I knew were false and having to yell at them. Dreemer, does the name Will Ryan ring a bell lol. Anyway, yeah...

I will pay you $100 if you find the one post where I said "There is a specific way to fight Ermac whenever you damn well please. Here's how." All I provided was the method used by the guy who sent the pic to EGM. I tried it myself in the arcades, and NO, it didn't work.

I'm serious. I'd even pay the airfare and show up at your front house, so you can videotape it and host the video of me paying you $100 over at Darktemplarz.

I've NEVER said that I know how to fight Ermac whenever you want to, nor have I said that I've been able to pull off the glitch. You keep saying that I'm a moron, yet YOU are the one that can't seem to understand no matter how many times I say it: The best piece of evidence that backs up what I think is NOT in EGM, it's in GamePro. Get it? GAMEPRO. Let me spell it out for you in case you still don't understand: G A M E P R O. Ok? GAMEPRO magazine has the interview (the part that Sakura posted) where Boon clearly states than an EXTREMELY RARE error occured that caused you to fight against a Red Ninja named Ermac (the name Ermac appears once he beats you; the name in the lifebar says Scorpion). I know that EGM showed the polaroid, and yeah, I saw it myself and it wasn't the clearest of pictures, but who are you to determine what reasoning they had for publishing that pic?

So I repeat, find the post where I said "Look guys, here's how you can find Ermac in MK1 and YES, it DOES WORK!!!"

Look as long and hard as you can, MK2KungBroken, 'cause there's $100 in it for you AND the chance to humiliate me in front of the whole site (something you WON'T accomplish, btw).

Actually, the polaroid you're talking about was in EGM, NOT GamePro (it was their "Most Wanted Trick of the Month"), and the guy said he "accessed" Ermac beating Player Two (even though he didn't ACTUALLY fight anybody, he just put quarters in both slots) simply using HP in the Warrior Shrine, like I've mentioned many times before.

There. You cited a specific method of obtaining Ermac. Where's my $100 dollars beeeotch. Even though you quoted the guy from mag, you still used it in your so called "evidence", like you've mentioned many times before...And Ed Boon makes NO MENTION of a red ninja. EVER. The only thing he is saying in that interview is that ERMACS do happen in MK1, error macros, and that the glitch that is most likely one of these errors, random errors they do not have control over, or intentionally put into the game to happen.

Also from reading that, I saw this:

Finally, Hyuga, the name DOESN'T change to Ermac in the lifebar. It always says Scorpion. The name Ermac appears when you lose and it says "Ermac Wins."

Ermac wins? What the hell, where did you get that information from lol. I missed that one.
Nikodemus, I use the term moron because of how ridiculous it is to still believe, and spread the rumor of Ermac, 11 years later. I will not tolerate it. LoL
So no, Ermac is still not in MK1.
