Will Raidens stupidity be acknowledged?
By the narrative, and the heroes, not just villains like D'Vorah (and Ferra and Torr, who likely are villains)? Because I get the feeling that all the mistakes Raiden made in MK9's story mode were just plot-induced stupidity to help achieve the writers' desired outcome, and that MKX's story mode will portray Raiden as someone who truly only did his best in such a difficult situation, and that Liu Kang was too blinded by rage to understand that.
My point is, it's possible that those intros between Raiden and D'Vorah or Ferra/Torr would just be these characters being villainous and misguided, who refuse Raiden's protection because they just don't know what's good for them, in the writers' minds.

It will be interesting indeed.
I have a feeling that the writer's will have Raiden realize his error's near the beginning of the story mode. With the rise of Shinnok/Quan chi and supposedly new evil (Kotal?) it would be mind boggling if Raiden did not catch on that he was a mouse in a maze from the get go.
But if any one can be so oblivious; it would be Raiden.

This is what I think will happen.
His stupidity will be acknowledged so bad that he will "die" for it.
"Like, yo Raiden, you done fucked up...and I mean a lot recently. Yeah we ignored you, but, we're fucking Elder Gods. We can do that. And shit bro, you killed a potential Earthrealm champion. That shit doesn't fly here. Just like you...."
Annnnnnnnnd Raiden gets nerfed and Shinnok and Quan Chi tag teams dat ass.

Punishing him, maybe, but killing Raiden outright would be silly. It's not like everything went to hell on his watch on purpose.

It's a new timeline, so I don't think Liu Kang will be left out of this one. He will be the one to "kill" Raiden.

One of those intros, I think it was Sub-Zero - has him saying that Earthrealm needed a better protector.
So, yeah, Raiden isn't winning friends at the moment. I'd say it's a confirmed plot point.

That could mean that Sub-Zero will be portrayed as a damnable heretic for saying that about Raiden. We might get a Civil War-like story for the MK heroes where they are split between pro and anti-Raiden factions. The thunder mob will be the good ones, and instead of torches and pitchforks, they'll use cattle prods and electric tonfas. They'll have a "In Raiden we trust" mantra.
That Red Dragon goon might in fact be one of those Raidings (Raiden underlings) who inflitrated the Red Dragon.

He did save Earthrealm after all. Bumbling as he was, still got results.

If only in part, I'm hoping they use this game to redeem him. The way they wrote him, and forced alot of the stuff through Raiden and in the plot was just stupid.
I actually can't think of a more unaware, powerless, and overall dysfunctional God character than Raiden right now. It's because of this type of thing that I have been, and still am pretty pissed about how they've underplayed him, and ANY of the God characters in MK...it's like they're scared to give the damn Gods in MK some real power, intellect, or even just a general sense of superior where-with-all, and challenge the writers to be creative despite those things being in place. DC comics writers do it all the time...what's the problem??

This please.
Raiden can do with sitting out for a good solid two games at least.

Yeah, I think Raiden could use a break. After all, even Quan Chi took time off during Deception.

And thus is next in line to proudly wear the fool's cap in the captivating and fascinating story of Mortal Kombat.

Oh well, no matter what happens, Quan Chi will still get his way anyway.
NRS has made Shinnok look like a complete ass on multiple occasions in their marathon attempt to get QC over in the storyline.

There's no hate for that comment. While Raiden is a staple character and is an anchor to the story plots and what not. It would be nice to see Fujin take over his mantle for awhiile like how in the MK4 ending. Raiden is eternal, while his physical body can be harmed and destroyed his essence can not. So even if Shinnok was able to best Raiden, i think it would be awesome if he was somehow saved by the elder gods an Ascend to Elder God Status for him selflessness & sacrifices!
Just my 2 cents on that!

I'm just waiting for another reboot.
Raiden is an idiot now
Sub-Zero is a cyborg
Scorpion is becoming some sort of main hero
Kitana is a damsel in distress
Mileena is a slut in toilet paper with a child mind
All of the villains are useless.
Yep, Mk9 made strides with gameplay, but fucked the story real good.

I would rather see Fujin rise to fight along side Raiden. The forces of evil are too powerful and that is if you draw the line at QC and Shinnok; let alone all the numerous other villains.
Fujin would at least bring the scale closer to balanced. But still if you look at the power houses of the evil/good side (neglecting neutral) :
Fujin + Raiden < Shinnok + QC

Kitana's a damsel in distress who's also dead.

Exactly why I don't care about the story these days. It's a mess. Someone once said that back in the Deadly Alliance/Deception days- the gameplay sucked, but the story was at an all time high and now things have reversed. The gameplay is amazing and the story is shit.

Agreed. Most of the one-and-done characters in those games were far more interesting than the oldies in their MK9 incarnations.
