I tend to think of Mokap as a sort of "mascot character" for Mortal Kombat. Not a signature character like Sub Zero and Scorpion are for MK or Ken or Ryu is for SF, but I compare him to a sort of joke character like Mokujin or Panda from Tekken.

That said, I don't see that character being necessary in MK at all. It was kind of funny as a one off, but let's be honest... When we find out news about a new character, would ANYONE be psyched to see that the new character is one of these types of mascot characters? Mokap? Meat? etc...

No.

Therefore...

VERDICT: GONE.

STAY as a secret joke/victim character, somebody that gets killed in a funny way every game as comic relief.

Haha, some of these posts are hilarious. You never know, he could canonically be as good a fighter as Johnny Cage. He obviously has Cage's respect, and that's not an easy thing to earn...

Yeah, he's gone. I feel sorry for the poor guy. Not like he actually deserved to be a proper character, but just sorry for him that he...exists. I don't think that's what the MK Team should be going for with their characters. Part of me would like to give him a role as a model you beat up in practice mode (you could even call it "Kill Mokap"), but even that could be done better by other characters.

What he could do is just be a character that you fight in Practice Mode. That is if they still have the mode around. Or, just someone you go after in that combo mode too in MK vs DC. There is a use for him, just not as big though.

I agree with this whole heartedly. I'd have no problem at all with seeing Mokap as the practice dummy or kombo challenge dummy. None whatsoever.

Of course, by this logic though, I still don't see him as a "character." He doesn't need or deserve a story and unlike Tekken with Mokujin, I wouldn't even make Mokap selectable. I mean, what's the point?

I mean, sure, maybe if you want to have a character that mimics other characters styles and you don't know who it will be until the round actually starts, but honestly? I almost never use Mokujin (or Dural in Virtua Fighter for that matter).

These types of characters are fun for bragging rights and the whole "I can beat you with anyone" line, so in that sense, sure, maybe try real hard and make Mokap look a bit less dorky and throw him in, but again, I still wouldn't consider him a "character" in the game.

At best he's a training dummy and at worst he'd be a waste of a roster spot.

Well, he lasted two days, I don't think he needs to last longer to be debated anymore, time for the next character on the list. And sorry the last and this character being not so interesting to debate, as I am going through the list alphabetically and I refuse to skip any. Here's the next character:

Moloch

The second Oni character in Deadly Alliance, Moloch was the sub-boss for the game. Not really much of a challenge really. In the ending for him in Armageddon, he trapped himself in a wasteland that used to be Edenia because he destroyed the portals or whatever... Seriously, I could care less of this character.

I don’t really see how this character can actually develop into an actual character in the series because there was nothing about him at all, only that he is an Oni that was working with Drahmin to kill several characters in their stories. That was it. I never liked this sub-boss because he was super easy to kill, his design is just too plain that I just want you to go.

So, let’s debate. Should Moloch stay or leave?

Ha ha, the big evil mutant smurf. I liked that he was somewhat easy as a sub boss and not blatantly cheap like sub bosses of the past. Yo know, Kintaro being able to throw me out of a jump kick or Motaro simply existing.

Sigh. I just realized who we're debating next...

Anyways, Moloch had a decent look in spite of the mutant smurf crack. He was a big monster with a ball and chain that he used as a weapon. Not bad in my book.

His story was nonexistent, but for what he was, he was done pretty well.

VERDICT: GONE

I honestly don't see any reason to bring him back. His look was okay, but nothing overly memorable. His moves were kinda cool, but again, nothing that really screamed "fun to use" or "innovative" or anything even remotely along those lines.

He was kind of a one off character like most sub bosses should be. I don't hate him, but yeah, no real reason to say he should return either.

Huh... I'm actually kind of surprised how many people I'm bringing back so far. For me: Saved for future MK goodness: 13 (Baraka, Drahmin, Ermac, Fujin, Hotaru, Kabal, Kai, Kano, Kenshi, Kira, Kitana, Kung Lao and Liu Kang)
Sent to the pit of something bad: 25 (well, everyone that's not those 13 above).
Looking back on it, I could easily switch my answers for Baraka, Ermac, Hotaru, Kano and Liu Kang, but I've already committed so I guess I'll just leave them as is grin

Drahmin and Moloch are basically the same character in different bodies, in terms of the purpose they've served - enforcers for Quan Chi. Of the two, Drahmin I find to be more interesting, even if barely capable of plot potential. Unfortunately the same goes for Moloch. He was a good sub-boss, but there's really no reason to bring him back. I'd have someone offer them a position of power, or perhaps a chance to escape their oni forms, requiring ruthlessness in order to be considered. As a result, he and Drahmin could perhaps turn on each other, the loser being eaten. I'd much prefer if Drahmin came out on top in such a hypothetical struggle. He had the benefit of once being a mighty warlord in ancient times, whereas for all we know Moloch's just a particularly nasty oni, more or less. He's served his purpose.

Verdict: GONE.

Well, Moloch was cool as a sub-boss.But I agree with what everyone says, that it doesn't have a purpose in the story at all. If he is going to return in a future game,it will be cool to team him up with Drahmin, kinda like Noob-Smoke in MKD.

You all are the first people I've ever heard call Moloch an easy sub-boss.

With that said, unless he's gonna be the only big monster type (which means you'd either have to kill all the Shokans/Centaurs or turn one of them good), and he's made a huge threat, he's kinda redundant

I'd like to see it happen though...but they won't do it, so GONE.

Moloch has served his purpose. He's done everything he needed to do, but Drahmin has more storyline potential than he does. Drahmin should actually return to the series before Moloch does. And Drahmin should not return.

Verdict: GONE

I should go back and work out what my tallies are. I've forgotten who I voted yay and nay on. I should probably try and be more consistent, haha.

I really liked Moloch in DA when it first came out. His design was very different from the Shokans and Motaro and I particularly enjoyed the little "legend of the Oni-Destroyer" story they did about the owl who carries his ball and chain around and wherever it drops, he's summoned to wreak havoc. There was so much creativity with all that DA concept art and story stuff they released in the weeks leading up to the game...

That said, he was clearly a one-shot sort of character with no future. Some characters just are. There's no shame in being one, if the creators have the good sense to stick to it. Let's hope they've learned that lesson and will never attempt another Trilogy/Armageddon-style game again.

Gone.

OH MY GOD, I missed Mokap!!!

Damn it, I had a whole essay prepared for him! Sigh, I guess I'll just say GONE and move along....

I see no need for Moloch to return. We don't need repeat sub-bosses and including over-powered monster characters isn't that good an idea. The only thing I can see him contributing to the future is to act as a non-playable story-only background character....like Drahmin's bodyguard or something.

Gone.

The big blue baddie from the Netherealm? I'm not sure he needs to come back. He keeps shrinking anyway. I mean, in between MKDA and MKA he lost what, 2 feet at least?
Imagine how small he would be if he was in MK9 at THAT rate!
If he did come back, I would say maybe as a character that you discover as a secret character to fight in order to unlock something. Other than that...

Gone.

Moloch is actually a character that I think would do well with a reboot. They could re-scale the character, redefine some aspects of him, and his Oni-Destroyer gimmick could become something quite charismatic. I'm not in favour of a reboot as anything than a sort of comic/side project, but I think that Moloch is definitely one character that could be reinvented and be improved.

Moloch, the last I remember of him he and Drahmin tossed Scorpion into the Soulnado and that was it. I agree with most of you that we really don't need Moloch around for future games, he was a cool edition to the mythology of the Netherealm as that seems the most mysterious out of the six realms to me, and also has much potential to be explored upon.

If we are to see Moloch in any form of Mortal Kombat I would only include him in a future comic book storyline or novel and explain why he is not in any more Mortal Kombat games, perhaps after the Elder Gods granted Scorpion new abilities, he evened the score with Moloch by putting his Oni head on a steak.

Next sub-boss character up for debate and next in line:

Motaro

“Motaro wins!” – The only thing I can find that’s not from Armageddon that has to do with a biography/ending.

Anyways, I hope that this character makes up for the last two debates, I know it hasn’t really been interesting debating two characters that aren’t really worth being debated but...

With Motaro, I was very, very disappointed with his Armageddon appearance, and I don’t care what the issue was. I wanted to see this character return definitely, but, we get some idiotic looking character that looks more of a Satyr than a Centaur.

His rivalry between Sheeva was the only hint that the Shokans and the Centaurs had it out against each other, and that was it. I really would like to see more of this rivalry continue between the two races. What started it and whatnot. I think I also mentioned this when we were debating with Goro, only because these are sub-bosses and if they were turned into characters, what exactly are we supposed to do with them story-wise?

I never liked going up against this guy in the arcade mode because he cheats. He moves immediately when the FIGHT text pops up, (says so in the strategy guide book too) and once he releases the six firebolts at you, it’s game over. I also hated how he pranced around the level every time too, stay in one spot! He was a tough sub-boss and that is how I feel every sub-boss should feel in-game. He definitely deserves a spot in my heart as one of the toughest/cheapest sub-bosses I have ever fought in a game.

Appearance wise, return the damn legs. Nuff’ said.

Anyways, I don’t see this character coming back, and I know that if he does, he’s not going to have his four legs for some reason, I have that feeling that he won’t. I’m going to say go, but I would really like to see this guy return.

So, let’s debate. Should Motaro stay or leave?
