i just looked at the boot and looked at liu kang pass Attires and that could very well be him . but the person is not wearing long pants , which liu normally would so maybe its a female. how many females are revealed so far anyway.

It's essentially the same thing, people call it different stuff so no, you didn't miss anything. lol Also seen it called 'show mode.' Its just meant to attract your attention while idle or running in-store.

I kinda think he said that because he made the main roster. I get the impression that they were scrambling to cram characters in, and they finalized Rain at around that time. That was around the time that Boon started tweeting about him all the time. It would make sense if he was actively in development. Also, there would otherwise be no reason to show him for a brief second in the story trailer. Same for Baraka. He was "snuck in there" as well, and I speculate it was for the same reason. His development had come along enough that he could be teased and it wouldn't be an empty promise. Smoke might've also showed up later on in development. That Polygon article singled him out among the Revenants as having a design overhaul, hopefully because NRS gave them the go-ahead to be chatty about it.

I will honestly be very surprised to not see Rain playable in this game on the roster. Be it at launch or DLC.

I would have thought otherwise originally, but once the trailer was released and Rain clearly plays a role, my opinion was changed. To be showcased in a trailer, that of owning a big new bad to the MK universe by drop kicking him off the top of a building....that would just be one huge tease. You don't have a fodder background character do that in a trailer and expect viewers not to expect or want to play as him.

Remember not everyone who plays or buys these games are hardcore MK fans like us on here who over analyse every last detail. If I was a casual player, I wanna play as the cool purple ninja guy who kicks people off of rooftops!!!!

Well, maybe Rain will be the unlockable character in Story Mode. His popularity appears to have grown in since his exclusion from the MK9 base roster, and I think NRS is well aware of this.
